One thing I learned in my 30 for 30 project is that I wear my blue jeans A LOT! So in an attempt to change things up a bit, today I am wearing my gray cords.
To be honest, I have a really hard time with these pants. When I bought them I thought I’d wear them all the time, but actually I’m never exactly sure what to wear them with.
As you can see from the photo on the right, white is always an option… but BORING!
After searching my closet for a long time, I decided to try something I’ve seen other gals do- pairing two similar colors together- but in different shades.
I found this light gray tunic and decided to give it a try. I like it, but I thought I might need a little color (especially with the gray skies in Seattle), so I threw this purple ribbed cardigan over the t shirt.
To tie the whole look together (and follow my rule of 3) I added this necklace.
As for my feet- this is also a constant struggle for me. I’m not sure what to wear with skinny pants. The ultra glamorous would wear stilletos- but seriously- that is SO not me.
I love boots with skinny jeans/ pants, but I’m tired of wearing my black boots every day- so my only option was my Tory Burch ballet flats. What would you have worn?

Pants: Banana Republic, Tunic: H&M, Cardigan: Nordstroms, Shoes: Nordstroms
Thanks for stopping by our “Fashionably learning” blog! It’s always fun to connect with another fashion blogger, especially one from Kansas! It must be great to be in Seattle now.
I love this look! I think using different shades of the same color looks very fashionable. What a great outfit ;).
Although I do love a TB shoe, since your cords are not ultra skinny, why not pair them with your tan ( I guess they’re tan) wedge boots, but also how about cuffing your pants? The outfit looks (IMO) “feminine”?-so the ruggedness of the boots could give it another twist plus keep your feet warm!!! I’m too lazy to go back and see what other shoes you have but I know you have the wedge boots!!
I like the flats! You’re lucky you have nice, long legs so you have lots of options!
love those shoes! we would love for you to link up with us on sunday “sunday best”. we need some help with ideas on things to wear to church, so any skirts or dresses you would like to share with us would be great! hope to see you sunday!

I really like the shoes and the color combo – I wonder how a “tighter” shirt might look with the “flowy” sweater… great inspiration!
i think this looks darling, and the flats were perfect. o is casual, fun, and looks comfortable. i have the same problem with my closet full of cords – i never wear them! i’ll have to break them out today thanks to your inspiration! you look adorable!
A great example of making a monochromatic color scheme interesting! Using pattern and texture — ruffles in the sweater, pattern in the shoes, stripes in the cords — all in the same color, using different shades. Totally works!
Great points, the textures all add so much more interest than a plain style. Thanks for your insight! 🙂
