Jan 22, Hooker Fashion?

I’ll be the first to admit I’m getting old, which probably means I’m out of touch with what is current.

I was at the mall last night (yes, sad life that I lead- I’m at the mall on a Saturday night) and I saw several women dressed like hookers (except they weren’t – at least I don’t think so).

They were simply out Β on a date wearing (in my opinion) totally inappropriate clothing.

I swear, I saw 3 different women with skirts so short I literally couldn’t believe it was even possible. And heels so high, I don’t know how they were walking.

Where is my camera when I need it?!

The thing that really looked weird to me (besides the fact they were at a mall dressed like this) was that their dates were dressed perfectly normal. Jeans, jackets and casual shoes…

Is this fashion? Am I too old to recognize style? Possibly!

To me, this picture above is an appropriate date outfit. I’m wearing black skinny pants, wedge shoes (open toed sandals or heels would have been even better- but there is snow on the ground), a sequined top and a black blazer. I don’t think anyone will confuse me with a working girl- and my hubby will have no fear that the entire world will see my private parts.

Call me old fashioned, call my judgemental- but let’s leave something to the imagination people.

Enough preaching. Enjoy your Sunday.

More and more style bloggers are wearing sequins during the day. Would you?

  1. AMEN!! Modesty has gone out the window! I love your date night outfit, completely appropriate and stylish too!

I don’t think we are noticing these things because were are older. Honestly, I think that our parents raised us to know better than to dress like a hooker.

  2. Unfortunately dressing like that is in now. Most of the style for teenagers/young adults these days comes from music videos and if you sit and watch MTV-sorry MTV 2 because I don’t think MTV actually shows videos anymore-for about 3-4 videos you will see what I am talking about. Many of the young ladies (and even not so young) dress like they are on the runway or a fashion shoot-from the makeup to the sky high heeled shoes!!- its just generational-I am pretty sure our parents raised us to know better than to do that whole grunge thing back in the 90’s but alas it still was popular. I have always been more of a preppy dresser and stayed to classic pieces but this “hooker” dressing too shall pass!! πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks for your response, and while I’m sure you are correct- that this is the new trend- I still don’t like it! πŸ™‚
When I was a teen the trend was dressing like Madonna (Material Girl) and my mom would have never let me out of the house like that. Of course I hated it at the time- but in hindsight, I’m glad she set some rules/ standards on how I could dress.
I’m sure this is going to be an issue for me someday, since I now have my own daughter. Luckily, at age 8 she still allows me to pick out her outfit each day! LOL!

  3. I agree! I even see Hooker dressing at church – yikes! And I know someone who carries her phone in her cleveage! Not cool. So let’s lead the way, Everyday Mom Style followers. We can lead by example and teach our girls not to dress like hookers, and dress with class and style!

  4. I could not agree more about the short skirts and inappropriatly dressed ladies) out in dates. They are clearly communicating a message that makes me very sad!

I love your outfit! I have yet to embrace the sequins trend… althought I think it looks great, I have not tried it out personally. I feel like I need a special, fancy date to justify the look, maybe if I could find a daytime look, I’d be more comfortable trying it out. πŸ™‚

  5. I, too, am horrified by a lot of what I see out there these days. Hope it passes soon. Maybe by the time our girls are teens the baggy shapeless tops we wore in college will be back in style. In the meantime, way to keep it classy, Megan! You always do.
