Feb 4th, January Summary

I think it’s fun to look back over the past month and see what I wore- and what worked and what didn’t (this is a learning process for me too!) so I’ve decided to compile a slideshow of the outfits that I wore. To see the slideshow, click on any of these pictures and it will take you there.

Here are January’s outfits (I’m only 4 days late… sorry!) Which was your favorite? Did any of these inspire you to try something new? If so- please send a photo to everydaymomstyle@gmail.com

Which should I donate to the Goodwill? (besides the denim smock- I think we all agree the sleeves on that are off, and it was confirmed to me today when my daughter had a friend over (who is 9 years old) and she had on basically the exact same top! If that’s not a sign, I don’t know what is! 🙂

Jan 31st, Chic Blog of the Week, Who Me?!

Oh my gosh, this is so exciting. Sweet Melissa (I love that song by the way) of All Things Chic, has selected Everyday Mom Style to be the Chic Blog of the Week!

I am so flattered! Thank you Melissa for highlighting my little project! It means the world to me- not only because I am a huge fan of your blog but also because I love getting style tips and ideas from you!

If you want to check out her post, and if you were ever curious what my face looks like click here (I swear this is not a mug shot- although I don’t blame you for wondering. Now you know why I chop my head off in all my pics!).

And thanks for all those votes for Top Mommy Blogs- you all are amazing! If you want to vote for me, it is so simple, just one click on the ‘vote for me’ button on the right. That’s it! Thanks! You can do it every day if you want- it will keep me in the running! (I’m getting greedy, sorry! :))

In celebration of today I have decided to dress in my alter ego- rocker chic! I bought this tweedy, Chanel inspired jacket thinking it was a very serious jacket and would be perfect for work. In the picture on the right you can see how I had it zipped up and paired with baggy black trousers. I didn’t look like a serious employee- I looked old fashioned!

On the left I have updated my look. By unzipping the jacket and pairing it with these sexy skinny pants and boots- then adding a oversize, flowy tank layered with lots of silver chains- I have made my outfit more current and stylish. Rock on!

From dowdy gal to rocker mom!

Jan 30th, Neutrals

A few things to share:

1. If so inclined, please take a minute to vote for my blog for Top Mommy Blogs. All you have to do is click on the link on the right- that’s it! No signing up for anything, no entering your email address… nothing, just a simple click and you’re done. Each blog is rated daily, so if you’re willing to vote every day, that would be amazing!

And thank you! I appreciate it! 🙂

2. I have decided yesterday’s outfit was a miss (my hubby was right). As some of you pointed out- there was something off with the capped sleeves. Thanks so much for your input!

Now, for my outfit today. As many of you know- I am a big fan of neutrals. I really like the look of similar colors paired together.

At first, I tried this sweater plain- paired with these cute toothpick white jeans. I decided that although I love the simple and unfussy look- it was a little too plain.

To change it up a bit, I’ve simply added my chambray shirt under the sweater- that’s it. Just a tiny little change- and I think it makes all the difference in the world. My leopard flats and necklace complete the look. This outfit is totally me- not me trying to be someone else- it’s me. Plain and simple.

The small detail of the shirt peeking out from under the sweater is all I needed to complete this look.

Jan 29th, You Be The Judge

Before I talk about this outfit, I have some exciting news! My blog has been chosen to be on Top Mommy Blogs! Please take a minute to click the link where it says ‘like my blog?’ (on the right) to vote for my blog! Thank You!!!

This is one of those outfits that I think is really cute, but my husband hates it. Not sure what exactly about it that he hates- he just does.

So, I’ve decided to let you all decide. Is this cute? Is it awful? What could I do to make it cuter (if anything)?, or is it time for the Goodwill?

Originally I had it on as you see on the right, but I decided the white t shirt underneath takes away from the cute neckline of this smock, so I changed it out for a 3/4 sleeve, v neck shirt, and added a necklace.

My favorite part of the entire outfit are these new shoes I just picked up at Nordstrom. As you may know- I hate tennis shoes (unless I’m working out), but love comfort. These cute little Puma’s are the perfect solution. They feel like tennis shoes, but look like ballet flats!

Where have they been all my life?! Prepare to see these babies a lot!

What do you say, is this a keeper?

Jan 28th, Biker Girl

While I love my North Face jacket a lot- it’s not the most fashionable look. It’s perfect for certain occasions (like camping!), but if you want to be a little more stylish, consider trying a motorcycle jacket like the one on the left.

Here I’ve replaced my North Face with this cute Michael Kors motorcycle style jacket.  It’s warm and perfect for my casual weekend look.

This outfit is really all about the jacket- but in order to look like I’ve put a little effort into my look I decided a striped shirt would be cuter than the plain white one on the right.  I also added this bright cranberry colored scarf. I love having just this burst of color- it gives the outfit a focal point.  As usual, I’m wearing my black wedge booties. I know, I seem to be wearing these every day, but they are so comfy and I think they are super cute!
I love the collar of this jacket.
I love these wedges... are you sick of them? Sorry!

Jan 27th, Baby It’s Cold Outside!

This crazy Pacific Northwest weather!  After what felt like spring yesterday there is frost on the ground today. It’s cold out there!

Today I’m wearing jeans again- and this time I’m showing looser fitting jeans- since not everyone wants to wear skinnys!

These are my Paige Premium denim and they fit so well. They are a dark blue wash, the waistband is high (no whale tail peeking out the back) and I like the boot cut.

On the right I’m showing just jeans and the turtleneck. Nothing wrong with this look- add a necklace and it could be really cute. However, because it is so darn cold- I decided to add a vest and a scarf.

I like the multiple layers and the contrasting patterns (quilted vest, cable knit sweater and the floral scarf). On my feet I’m wearing my wedge black shoes again! I knew I’d love these babies!

My linkup today is with Girlymama for Fashion Friday! Have fun!

This scarf is huge (it honestly looks like a blanket) which is why it's so voluminous. Don't wear a wimpy scarf! These jeans look black (bad lighting in my bathroom), but they are blue.

Jan 26th, Preppy Mom

I know I keep showing this ‘before’ pic on the right, but it’s just so bad and so easy to fix- that I can’t help myself!

I apologize to those of you who have already seen it!

Today’s outfit is yet another plaid shirt paired with a sweater (this seems to be my favorite new outfit!).

As you can see though, this combo does not always guarantee a great look. On the right my buttoned cardigan looks awkward and dated, the faded jeans are also dated and the tennis shoes. Need I say more?

On the left I have replaced the mom jeans with dark skinny jeans and then replaced the tennis shoes with red flats. I’m wearing a colorful plaid shirt and topped it with a bright pink cardigan.

Yes- I am wearing red shoes and a pink cardigan. Seriously?!

This is the new color pairing trend of this season- and while I’m not quite ready to wear it in large doses (like red pants with a pink top), this small touch reflects the style- without me appearing overly ‘trendy’.

I really like this bright, colorful outfit. Such a change from my normally neutral colors! My arms look very bare. I think I need some bracelets…

Jan 25th, A Different Kind of Working Girl

I know, two references to Working Girls in one week, what’s up with that?

Last Sunday I talked about hooker fashion (which I am not a fan of), today I’m actually talking about what to wear to the office.

The photo on the right (credit: xfinity.comcast.net) is a great example of what not to wear. Here is someone who is still dressing like she is in the 80’s.  The matchy matchy suit is very outdated- the cut of the jacket is too boxy and in my opinion, not stylish.

On the left is my more modern version. I’m still wearing a pencil skirt- but instead of pairing it with a boxy matching jacket- I’ve opted for a checked button down top layered over a white tank and then added a denim jacket.

I’ve added a ribbon belt to define my waist, and black tights and boots (I actually think gray tights might have been cuter- next time). For my accessories, I kept it very simple and only added my pearl necklace and J Crew bracelet. On reflection, my pearl necklace looks a bit lame… I might take that off!

By the way, I’m linking up with The Pleated Poppy again this week. Be sure to check out all the other fabulous sites that have also linked up. What a fun way to get real inspiration!

Even without the jacket, this still looks polished and stylish.
Depending on your office culture, a denim jacket can be a great alternative to a suit jacket.

Jan 24th, Comfy Cargos

I simply LOVE these pants- they are so soft and comfy… I know, I say that about everything- but comfort is so important to me!

I can always tell when I’m wearing a perfect outfit when I get home from a long day and I don’t immediately change into sweats (because what I’m wearing feels like sweats).

This outfit is a good example of that.

I bought these cargos last year- and although they are sublimely comfy- to be honest, I struggle with what to pair them with.

I’ve tried wearing them with white, black, denim and even stripes- but today may be my favorite of all- this gorgeous cranberry color painters smock. Not only do I love the color, but I love the contrast of the feminine silky shirt paired with the rugged cargos.

This style top is very popular this season (especially the ones with the pockets on the breast as seen here), and being silk (or faux silk as in my case), it is warm, soft and comfy. I especially love the baggy, flowy style. Now my problem is tuck it in, wear it out, or do the half tuck? I think untucked would be perfect if only my pants were a bit tighter (I guess then they might not be so comfy, huh?).

Not sure that the half tuck is really working for me- it seems so messy!

By the way, I promise you I never wore this outfit that you see above on the right- this photo was for comparison only! By rolling the cuffs, changing the shoes and shirt the outfit looks totally different.

Jan 23rd, A Skirt for All Seasons

I bought this skirt a year ago- and before this experiment,  would have only worn it in the summer.

But, I’m trying to stretch myself and try new things. So far, I’ve worn it in the summer- as seen here, and the fall as seen here. Now it’s winter’s turn.

To make it appropriate, I’ve  paired it with tights, boots and a chunky sweater that I picked up at J Crew on sale.

Instead of wearing the sweater plain,  I’ve layered it over my denim shirt.

It’s my first day back to work after week of snow days… wish me luck!

Would it be wrong to wish for another huge snowstorm to hit?

This sweater would also look cute with jeans!
