I like the idea of a simple plaid shirt and a pair of jeans, but as you can see- it isn’t always a great look.
This shirt on the right is a little too ‘country’ for my style. The faded, baggy jeans aren’t stylish- and do I even need to mention the ugly black shoes?
To improve the outfit, I’ve switched to this cute pink and orange checked shirt. I’m wearing my dark blue skinny jeans and some cute ballet flats (they are tan- although in the picture they look red).
I’ve worn this shirt already once, see here. But since this blog is a real reflection of things in my closet- I’m wearing it again.
I’ve changed it up a bit; last time I wore it over a tank- today I have on a long sleeve white shirt underneath. I’ve also tucked in my shirt, added a cute belt, and gotten rid of the cardigan.
Last, I’ve added a necklace and white bracelet. All of these small details give the impression that I’ve made an effort with this outfit, and helps me look pulled together.

Ask my close friends, and they will tell you I am always on the hunt for a striped shirt. Â And as many of you regular readers know, I now have quite the collection!
I’m telling you though, this is such a versatile wardrobe piece that today I decided to show you 12 different ways to wear it. I could probably have done 20, but my family started to wonder where I disappeared to so I had to cut myself off.
I hate it when that happens!
I can’t decide which look is my favorite- but it might just be the one with the Hunter boots and red vest. This just seems so Seattle to me!
Please take a minute to comment and let me know which is your favorite!
Good morning! I’m not sure about my spelling of Maxinista, but hopefully you know what I mean.
I have always been a big fan of TJ Maxx, my mom is a huge fan and passed her love down to me. LOL!
The thing is though- you have to be very careful and have a very critical eye when you go.
Don’t just snap up everything in your sight- don’t buy things just because they are inexpensive.
Go knowing what you are looking for- and then if you find it- yeah! If not, try again another day. They are constantly getting new shipments in.
I went looking for a maxi dress. I’ve wanted one for a long time- and was so excited to see this for $39.
The problem is- wearing it all alone, it sort of looks like a nightgown, don’t you think?
On the left I have tried to fix this by adding this cute shirt over my dress (I love the hemline of this top) and then to define my waist I added a cute pink belt. To finish it off, I threw on my favorite Stella and Dot necklace.
Cute, huh?
The nice thing about a maxi dress is that is makes your legs look really long. If you are petit, this might be a great dress for you (but you’ll need to wear heels).

It’s Wednesday, so I’ve linked with Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday. Check it out!

Let’s face it, as ‘springy’ as I want it to be- it’s still a little chilly out there, so today I’m wearing my cream cords.
They are warm and comfy- and with the light color, I think appropriate for spring.
I’ve paired them with this pretty jewel toned shell- and then added a long beige cardigan over the top.
Tying the look together is this long pendant necklace.
Finally, to make it more ‘work appropriate’ I’m wearing my pointy toed snakeskin heels. If you’re just running errands- stick to flats! (I would!).
My before picture (on the right) doesn’t work because it is too wintery. The long, black pants, black sweater and black shoes- all are too dark! This might work in December, but for the spring I want to brighten up!
Exciting news- I am now a .com! My new blog address is http://www.everydaymomstyle.com
Woot hoot!
Enjoy your day!

One of the reasons I was looking forward to spring, was because I was excited about having new options for pants.
When I saw these cute cropped pink pants at Nordstrom’s, I had to have them.
I’ve decided to pair them with this cute blue and white striped shirt and then topped it with my denim jacket.
On the right you can see how originally I paired this striped shirt with my khaki pants. While there is nothing wrong with this look- these pants seem a little boring- it’s a little ‘too safe’.
Why not have a little fun while getting dressed? To me, these pink pants scream ‘fun’!
They remind me of something Barbie would have worn… oh wait, that might not be a good thing? Oh well!
I’m wearing them anyway! 🙂 Linking up with Glamamom for Monday Mingle!

One thing I’ve learned in this ‘fashion journey’ is how a very simple outfit can either look stylish or not- depending on small details.
A good example of that is today’s outfit.  I’ve paired blue jeans with a white t shirt and a black cardigan.
But- as you can see on the right, this outfit is awful.
The loose, baggy jeans are too long (see how they puddle around my ankles). The white t shirt has a neckline that is too high- and the cardigan looks awkward (the neckline is so much lower than the t shirt). And to be honest, the outfit is just a little too boring.
On the left I have replaced the baggy jeans with these cute slim and cropped ones (Old Navy, Diva style)
I’ve switched out the cardigan for this longer, short sleeve one and then added a scarf to add interest and color to the outfit. Now my outfit has a focal point.
For my shoes, instead of the ugly black Sketchers (on the right), I’ve got on cute black ballet flats.
Simple little changes that make a big difference! Enjoy your weekend. The sun in shining in Seattle today! Thank you Mother Nature!

I’m volunteering at our local hospital’s huge fundraising auction tonight, so I thought I’d show you what I’m wearing.
The auction will be pretty formal- but I also need to be comfy since I’ll be running around all night.
The key to that is my shoes. I’ve opted for my black wedge heels. They are stylish, but with the wedge heel- they will make is easy to be on my feet all night.
The dress I’ve chosen is one of my favorites. It’s a gorgeous blue color, made of viscose (rayon) so it’s super soft & comfy and the draped neckline is flattering. For accessories, I’m wearing necklace, black belt and bracelet.

Ok, I’ll admit it. I’m obsessed with stripes. I just can’t help myself.
Well, actually- you would be proud of me, I did buy a new dress today and while I contemplated buying the striped version I ended up buying the solid instead… but that’s another day, another post.
Today I’m actually showing what I wore last night to our elementary school play- which both of my kids performed in!
I’m very proud of them- and impressed with the entire cast. What a fun night!
On the right I’m showing this striped top with my old white pants- I actually think it looks pretty cute- but the pant length is a little too long and the boot leg cut is a little dated.
On the left I have my J Crew pencil jeans, which look better (and more ‘springy’). The slimmer cut and cropped leg make for a more current look.
This striped top is one of my new spring purchases.
Here’s what I like about it:
1. I like the way the waist is defined by a drawstring.
2. I love the chevron stripes. These angled stripes are slimming since they draw the eye up and down (creating a vertical line). To take this even one step further- the long necklace also creates a vertical line.
3. The V neckline is flattering for most figures.
4. The sleeves are a cute length- and also flattering if you don’t like showing your upper arms.
5. I like the long length of this top- (no muffin top).
To finish my outfit off, I have on these cute patent leather ballet flats. I love the toes on these, they are squared off and remind me of real ballet shoes. So cute!

I’ve got a super busy morning!
I’m playing tennis at 8:00, then volunteering at school, then going to the dentist, running by the grocery store, then walking my dog. I’ll even try to squeeze in a little house work when I get home (as if!).
My outfit needs to be versatile, casual and easy!
I could run around town looking like the old me (on the right), but this is just awful! My bright white tennis shoes are glaring. The loose, baggy track pants are unflattering and the plain black fleece is dull.
On the left is my re-worked look. This jacket is actually part of my tennis team uniform, so after my match today, I’ll switch out my tennis skirt for these cute cropped jeans. The fitted style of this jacket is much more flattering than the fleece. And the red tank peeking out from underneath adds some color and interest. As for my shoes- I’ve replaced my bright white shoes for my comfy Pumas.
I’m now ready to run into someone I know and not be totally embarrassed. This may not be my cutest outfit- but it’s perfect for my crazy day.
