Feb 11th, Saturday Market

Greetings from sunny southern Cal (which is a real treat considering the sun is a rarity during the winter in Seattle.) I’m heading to the local street market today, so I wanted something that is super comfy, yet stylish.

I’ve chosen white jeans and a denim shirt.

On the right I have on my old white jeans. With the bootleg style, they look a little dated and frumpy. My buttoned up denim shirt isn’t helping much either.

On the left I’ve switched out the old jeans for these cute toothpick ones from J Crew. I’ve also added a tank under my denim shirt, and rolled the sleeves up to give it a casual vibe. To add some color I’m wearing my new favorite necklace- which gives the whole outfit a focal point.

Now for my feet, this may be the most exciting thing I’ve ever written- I have been on the lookout for a cute casual shoe that is extremely comfy (keep in mind this is coming from someone who wore Birkenstocks everyday before this style experiment.)

Well, my search is finally over- I think I have found the perfect shoe.

Introducing the Puma slip on. They are sneakers that look like ballet flats.

I’m serious, rush to Nordstroms right now and get yourself some before they sell out.  They are sublimely comfy and stylish- what more can an everyday mom want?

These shoes are absolutely perfect for me- comfy and stylish!

Even Sadie is checking out my new shoes! LOL

A few things to share:

1. If so inclined, please take a minute to vote for my blog for Top Mommy Blogs. All you have to do is click on the link on the right- that’s it! No signing up for anything, no entering your email address… nothing, just a simple click and you’re done. Each blog is rated daily, so if you’re willing to vote every day, that would be amazing!

And thank you! I appreciate it! 🙂

2. I have decided yesterday’s outfit was a miss (my hubby was right). As some of you pointed out- there was something off with the capped sleeves. Thanks so much for your input!

Now, for my outfit today. As many of you know- I am a big fan of neutrals. I really like the look of similar colors paired together.

At first, I tried this sweater plain- paired with these cute toothpick white jeans. I decided that although I love the simple and unfussy look- it was a little too plain.

To change it up a bit, I’ve simply added my chambray shirt under the sweater- that’s it. Just a tiny little change- and I think it makes all the difference in the world. My leopard flats and necklace complete the look. This outfit is totally me- not me trying to be someone else- it’s me. Plain and simple.

The small detail of the shirt peeking out from under the sweater is all I needed to complete this look.

Dec 9th, 30 for 30- Day 9

I’m working this morning, so I want to look professional, yet it’s Friday, so I imagine most people will be in jeans.

To solve that problem, I’ll combine the two! It’s like a mullet- business in front, party in back!

Except in my case, it’s business on top, party down below. No wait, that sounds perverted! Never mind!

You get the idea…

This outfit reminds me of my Jennifer Aniston inspired outfit that I wore here.

I’m wearing my casual boyfriend style jeans (I unrolled the hem) and this cute eggplant colored draped top. I’m a big fan of draping because it hides any bulges!

To make my look more professional, I threw on this blazer and a necklace.

A casual, yet office appropriate outfit for Friday! TGIF!

Nov 13th, Can’t Seem to Get Over You

I’m not sure what it is about this stupid flannel shirt, but I really want to make it work. I’ve tried and had failure several times- but I’m stubborn and I swear I will find a way to make this shirt work… maybe?

Part of why I won’t give up is that I see other people wearing flannel and it always looks great on them, plus- it is so warm and comfy, I just hate to think I can’t find a way to make this look good.

So, here’s what I tried today. I layered the shirt under a vest- so that you don’t see too much flannel. The black quilted vest breaks up the pattern a bit.

Here’s what I did wrong- on the right I am also wearing a scarf- which you know I’m a fan of scarves, but this paired with the chunky vest is just too much! Also, I’m wearing faded ‘mom jeans’ that look a bit dated. Paired with my round toe boots- this just doesn’t look fashionable.

On the left I’ve tried to improve it by switching to darker, skinny jeans, cute ballet flats and then I added a pearl necklace- just to give it a more feminine look.

I am torn about this look though. I seem to be off this week… maybe I’m in a slump?! Time to go shopping! 🙂

I tried tucking the shirt in to make it a bit more polished but I need a belt!

Nov 9th, What I Wore Wednesday

Well, it’s Wednesday again, which means I’m linking with The Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday, which is one of my favorite ‘go to’ sites for great ideas.

Even though on Saturday I showed this ‘before’ look on the right- in case you missed it, I’m showing it again. There is nothing wrong with this casual look, but  I want to show how simple it is to dress up jeans and a jacket.

For running errands, volunteering at school or for lunch with friends- skinny jeans and a polished blazer with cute shoes are a great and EASY look!

I’ve got on my dark skinny jeans (I’ve noticed I wear these a lot, maybe time to invest in a new pair?), a cream tank, black blazer and Burberry inspired scarf.

My dilemma is what shoes to wear?

I’m showing 3 different looks- please comment and let me know your favorite!

I'm always a fan of leopard flats!

To dress up the look, these high heeled loafers are nice.

I love the square toe on these patent leather flats. They remind me of ballet shoes!

Oct 20, Burst of Color

Looking over my last few posts- there is definitely a common theme- I like neutrals, a lot!  I’m not sure why I’m so afraid of color, it’s not like I’m a shy person!

However, now that the days are turning grayer and grayer- I feel the need to bring a little burst of color into my wardrobe!

Until this style experiment, this (on the right) was my daily uniform; a white t shirt, jeans, cardigan and mom shoes. Boring- but safe!

Nothing wrong with a white t shirt, it just doesn’t have much personality. With the right accessories, it can definitely stand alone (as in what I wore yesterday), but today I want more! I am always a fan of stripes- so this shirt seemed like the perfect fit.

I’m also trying to find alternatives to my skinny jeans (did you notice I haven’t worn them once this week?!) These gray skinny cords are a nice change.   Throw on a necklace and change into cuter shoes (can’t go wrong with Tory Burch flats) and I’m all set.

By keeping the colors of this outfit limited to only 3 colors- it is not too busy!

Oct. 14th, Blue Jean Lady

The flats and the skinny jeans make this outfit a little more stylish.

Surely this doesn't even require a comment. It should be very obvious why this doesn't work!

Two words: Oh dear! I imagine the picture on the right doesn’t really need much more explanation than that, but just in case- let me start by saying I have actually seen women wearing this (including the tennis shoes).

While yesterday’s post was on not being too trendy and trying too hard- today’s post is about at least making a little effort. The clothes we wear are often the first impression people have of us, and sadly the outfit on the right leaves the impression that you are out of date. Luckily, all it takes is a few small changes to make this outfit look a bit better.

Let’s start with the jeans. I know you all are pretty sick of seeing me in my skinny jeans. But honestly, they work so well with most of my tops- and the dark color is a more current look. The length is perfect for ballet flats, which is the perfect shoe for us busy moms. And, the best part is that they are very comfy! Be sure to buy jeans with stretch (spandex) in them.

Now for the shoes- seriously, unless you are running a marathon, please DO NOT wear your tennis shoes out of the house. I understand the whole ‘my feet hurt’ thing, I get it- my feet hurt too! But, if you invest in some great flats (Cole Haan’s are my favorite) they will actually be extremely comfortable and WAY more stylish than tennis shoes.

Lastly, let’s talk about the cardigan. I know, on Monday I shunned the basic boring cardy- and then here I am today wearing one. The reason this works is because: 1) I unbuttoned it, 2) it’s layered over a button down plaid shirt (which is over a tank top- and unbuttoned a bit- so it looks fresh and modern). 3) Because my plaid shirt is the focus of the outfit, the cardigan simply acts as a supporting piece. It ties in the color from my bottom half- having 1 uniform color from head to toe is a great way to appear slimmer.

Ok that’s it- I’m off to wake the kids up for school. Wish me luck!

See you tomorrow! Shirt: Target, Sweater: H&M, Jeans: Anthrolopologie, Ballet Flats: Target

This would even work without the cardigan, expect I'm always cold!

Oct 5th, Work It Wednesday

Simple and easy everyday mom style.

Perfect for work.

Hello! Today I am participating in Work it Wednesday, where I show 1 item 3 ways. I’ve selected what I consider to be a wardrobe staple- a black turtleneck. I like mine tight fitting- so I can easily layer it under a jacket.

My first look (left) is truly what I would wear everyday. It’s comfy, cute and stylish. I’ve simply thrown on a pair of boyfriend jeans, the turtleneck and this amazing scarf my hubby bought me for Christmas. It’s enormous, which is why it looks so voluminous. Since this is something I’d wear running errands, or volunteering at school- I’m wearing my comfy ballet flats.

My next look (right)  is what I call “sexy librarian’, this is something I would wear to work. It’s such a basic look- pencil skirt with turtleneck, but paired with this cool necklace from Kohl’s, it actually looks like I put some effort into my look. To keep it polished and professional, I have on my classic pointy heels.
The last look is one that might be a bit risky. You’ll either love it or hate it (my family hated it). I’m going with all black from head to toe- and then added a splash of red to make it interesting. I got the idea for this outfit from the movie Four Christmases, don’t know if you’ll remember, but Resse Witherspoon had on a black skirt and black top and black belt- and looked so cool! I felt like I needed a bit of color, to keep from looking like a sprocket- hence the red. What do you think? Yes? No? Stick to my day job?

All one color can be very slimming.

Turtleneck: White House, Black Market, Scarf: Lucky, Jeans: Gap, Skirt: Target, Pants: Express, Necklace (red): Cookie Lee, Necklace: Kohl’s, Red Flats: Target, Heels: Nordstrom, Black Flats: Nordstrom

Sept 29th, Come Sail Away

A blazer is always a classic and stylish look!

While this top is cute on it's own, it just seems to need something else.

I know, it’s a corny title, but it’s the best I could do. This outfit is for work, but I’m pretending that I’m going to go out on my friend Livi’s boat today- and if so, this is what I would wear! (Plus I’ve always loved that song by Styx- yes, I’m that old!).

I am excited that stripes are so popular- because I LOVE them so much! I have at least 5 different striped shirts- most are blue and white- as shown here. This cute one if from Anthropologie, and while it’s fine on it’s own (notice the cute gathered sleeves), I feel like it needs something more.  To add some polish to my look, I added my new Land’s End blazer (from Sears!), my leopard belt (are you sick of seeing this yet? I’m not!) and a strand of pearls.  I have my skinny jeans with the lighter wash and a pair of neutral ballet flats.

It may not be cutting edge fashion, but my belief is that by not being super trendy and by sticking to the classics- I will always feel appropriately dressed. To keep the look modern, I like to throw in 1 unexpected piece (hence my favorite- the leopard belt). Now I’m ready for a boat ride, work, running errands, or even volunteering at school- wherever my day takes me!

Neutral ballet flats are perfect for this simple outfit.
