August 1, Ruffle Detail

Sometimes it’s the littlest details that make an outfit. Something as simple as a interesting hemline, a cool neckline, a different sleeve, or even a ruffle is all you need to make your outfit interesting and unique.

For example, I went to dinner with a dear friend last night and I wanted to wear white jeans and a blue blouse. You know blue and white are one of my favorite color combos. I could have chosen my chambray shirt- which I love by the way (just not the way it’s styled here!), but instead I decided to go with this cute blouse with the ruffle detail.

There is a lot of things I love about this blouse. First off, it’s is a lot lighter weight than the chambray shirt, making it more appropriate for summer. Secondly, it has a cute hemline- where it’s short in front and then dips down in the back to cover my bootie. I also love the subtle stripes which is more fun than a solid print. And finally, as mentioned before, it has this unique ruffle that is built into the dropped shoulder and stretches down the sleeves. All of these small details make this blouse special.

To complete the look, I replaced the full length white jeans with my cropped ones, just that little peek of ankle makes all the difference in the world. I then swapped out the Birkenstocks for my cute white slides from Target. These shoes are one of my favorite purchases this summer, and they were only $13! I love them so much I bought them in both black and white!

May 7, More Stripes

I’m back again today with even more blue and white stripes. I can’t seem to get enough of them lately. At least today they are vertical instead of horizontal!

This very lightweight cotton blouse is perfect for the gorgeous warm weather we are having. I love the different color and size of the stripes, as well as the cute flutter sleeve. At first I paired it with my faded blue jeans and Birkenstocks (and truthfully, I think this looks fine), but then I decided it might be better with white jeans to provide a little contrast to the blue. As usual, I have done the half tuck to define my waist and then to finish off the outfit I am wearing my cute slip on trendy Hermes knock off sandals.

May 6, Blue and White Stripes

Yesterday it was black and white stripes, today I’m going for blue and white. If you haven’t noticed, I am big fan of stripes!

I’m teaching 3rd grade today, so I want to be casual and comfy, and since it’s chilly in the morning, I need to start the day with a jacket, that I can remove later as it gets warmer. The plain white tank under the jacket on the left doesn’t add any interest to the outfit, so I switched it up for this blue and white one . I then rolled the hems of my jeans to show off a little ankle and make them look a little more current. I swapped out my bulky tennis shoes for my Superga’s to complete the look. As for the jacket, I rolled the sleeves and cinched the waist. This makes the jacket a little more flattering and more styled looking.

I know I promised links today, but I’m running late and don’t have time to include them. Sorry! I can tell you the blue and white shirt is Banana Republic (old), jacket is from Ross , Jeans are Rich and Skinny and shoes are Superega. Gotta run, have a great day.

April 1, Striped Dress

I swear, almost every style gal that I follow owns some sort of blue and white striped dress. I’ve seen this look everywhere, and today I’m showing mine! This is just such a classic and easy to wear piece!

As you can see in my before photo- this dress clings a bit to my curvy hips- so tying the jacket around my waist breaks up the curves, and adds a very casual vibe to the look. The white tennis shoes are a good option if you aren’t quite ready to break out the sandals yet.

Normally, I don’t suggest you go out any buy anything (unlike many other blogs, I’m not trying to sell you clothes), but in this case- I would suggest buying a blue and white dress. Here are some cute ones that I found!

This cute Gap dress can be found here!

Another one from the Gap, it can be found here!
Totally different style, but it’s so cute I had to include it. It’s from Amazon.
Back to the Gap. Here is the link to this one!
Much more baggy fit in this one from Everlane
I’m not loving my sandals here, but wanted to show the jacket on.

Mine is from the Gap (hence all the Gap links), but it is several years old. My shoes are Superga, and my jacket is from Target.

I hope it’s nice and sunny where you live today. We are supposed to have a high of 69 degrees. Woot hoot! Maybe I can work on tanning my pale legs!!

ps- be sure to check out my page Month in Review. It shows all the outfits I wore for the entire month of March. Kind of fun to see them all at a glance.

Oct 29th, Inspired by Pinterest

I love finding outfit ideas on Pinterest- because it makes me re-think ways to wear clothes I already have!

Last night I spent about an hour pouring over outfits ideas on Pinterest! I’ll admit it, it’s a total time suck, but also inspiring and fun!

Today’s outfit is a good example of an outfit I especially liked!

In the picture on the right she has paired cropped boyfriend jeans with a striped shirt and a tan front tie cardigan. She also opted for sky high heels- which (as many of you know) there is NO WAY I could wear.

Even though I just wore this striped shirt last Monday, I decided this outfit was so cute- I’d wear it again.

For my sweater- I’ve had this for years, and worn it several times. But truthfully, I’ve struggled a bit on what to wear it with. I would have never thought of a striped shirt- which is strange since I LOVE my stripes!

As for my shoes, instead of platform shoes I opted for my more practical (and warm) booties!

Looking at the pictures I realize I forgot a necklace! Whoops! I’ll add that!

Happy Monday- and for all you East coast readers- Stay Safe!

Sept 21st, White Jeans Again!

If you ever wondered what my favorite item in my closet was- just look back over a few months worth of posts and you’ll probably notice I LOVE my white jeans and I LOVE stripes!

I just can’t help myself!! There is something so crisp about them, and as I said last Friday- the old rule of no white after labor day is no longer true.

In fact, Lloyd Boston*, author of Before You Put That On says: “Ladies, wear your creams and whites straight through the fall and winter. Those rules are gone.”

Today my before picture is one I’ve used before, sorry! I’m showing my white jeans with this collared long sleeve pink shirt. While I love the bright pink color- the long sleeves are covering up too much and the collar needs to go! I tend to repeat myself, but I really have a thing against collared shirts!

On the left I have replaced my golf shirt with this cute blue and white striped shirt from J Crew. I have rolled the sleeves to expose a little skin, and added this cute coral Stella and Dot necklace that my friend, Carrie gave me. I also added my leopard flats as a little unexpected pattern mixing.

Jeans: J Crew, Top: J Crew, Shoes: Target

To my local friends- yes, I wore this yesterday! Today I am working from home and wearing sweats… oh yes I am!

August 28th, Let Me Introduce Myself

Hello Friends!

For any of you new readers out there, I wanted to quickly introduce myself. My name is Megan and I’m a married mom of 2 kids. We live in a suburb of Seattle- so my style is very Pacific Northwest!

I started this blog a year ago in order to document my daily outfit. It was a fun way for me to learn about what works and what doesn’t.

Please note that I, by no means, consider myself a fashion expert!

I simply love clothes- but I love easy, comfortable, normal clothes- that real moms can wear!

I know it’s not high fashion! I just want to look nice every day- and so this blog helps keep me be accountable for that.

Ok, that being said- here is my outfit for today. (Truth be told, I actually wore this the other day – when it was super hot!.)

All I’ve done is pair a blue tank with a blue and white striped skirt. Pretty basic, right?!

Not really- this is a fairly full skirt and with the tank untucked, it makes me look large in the hips/ tummy areas.  However, by tucking my tank in- and wearing heels instead of flats- I’ve slimmed my waist and elongated my legs by several inches. (Wouldn’t you rather look long legged than long waisted?)

Let me tell you about these heels. I normally am not comfortable in heels. I prefer flats- but these heels are truly one of the most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve ever owned. The brand is Naot and the are somewhat expensive- but they are worth every penny. I could wear these for 12 hours (in fact I have) and my feet and back don’t ache at all!

Also notice that the color of the heels is close to my skin tone- which helps with making my legs look longer. Now look at the dark brown sandals- just the color alone draws attention to my feet and the ankle strap literally cuts my foot off from my leg- making them look shorter.

So, if you are a flat girl- but want to try a comfy heel- consider trying Naot. The style is a little bit more fashionable than Dansko’s (although my Dansko sandals are awesome too!).

There you have it, my tips for the day! Tuck in your shirt (didn’t your mom always tell you that?) and don’t be afraid to try a wedge heel!

May 5, Cinco De Mayo

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Hope you’re sitting somewhere enjoying a big bowl of guacamole and sipping a margarita! (My 2 favorite things!)

I’m wearing another maxi dress today. Last time I wore this- it was a miss, (remember this?)

So today I played it safe and just added a neutral cardigan and a bright fun necklace. Very simple, very easy, very me!

You might have noticed I wear this cardigan ALL THE TIME! It is a light shade of grey, and I bought it at J Crew abut 2 years ago. I remember balking a bit because of the price (it was probably around $80), but it was so worth it. It goes with everything and is a great basic piece to have. Because of the good quality, it has lasted a long time!

I think a maxi dress is my new favorite look! I love the ease and comfort of it.

If you want to change things up a bit, a denim jacket also works well!

A denim jacket is perfect over a maxi dress!

April 2nd, Marshalls Inspired

This outfit is inspired by an ad on TV for Marshalls, maybe you’ve seen it?

A stylish gal drives a bus into a neighborhood and all of a sudden a fashion show erupts.

One of the models is wearing a striped dress with a denim shirt underneath- and I thought- OMG! I have a striped dress AND I have a denim shirt.

I’m going to try that!

I’ve shown this dress several times- it’s one of my favorites, but alone- it is shapeless (as seen on the right!).

On the left is my re-worked look. I’ve added the denim shirt under the dress, then added a belt to define my waist.  As usual, I’ve added a necklace to add some interest. Finally, I’ve chosen my tan ballet flats to finish it off.

I would have NEVER tried a shirt under a dress, thank you Marshalls for inspiring me! I really like this look!

I’ve slipped to #13 on Top Mommy Blogs! Please take a second to vote (it’s so easy, just one quick click on the button on the top right of this page). Thank you so much!!
