Jan 15th, Needing Some Color

DSCN6423 DSCN4356As I look back over my outfits these past few weeks, I noticed that I haven’t been wearing much color (which shouldn’t be a surprise since I feel most comfortable in neutrals). But today I decided I needed a little burst of color~ something about the grey skies and lack of sunshine I guess!

That being said- here is today’s look. I’ve decided to wear jeans and a bright orange top. I love this top- it’s a great color and super comfy. For my first look I simply paired it with jeans, added my orange bracelet and brown boots- easy does it.

Then I decided that I should maybe add another layer- especially for working moms- so I tucked the shirt in and added a blue blazer. Instead of the boots, I chose ballet flats (and yes, my feet will probably freeze- this look is for you lucky moms who live in warmer climates). I also chose my leopard belt as a fun little surprise.

Now let’s take a moment to discuss my ‘before’ look. I chose an old one for you today (so I apologize if you’ve seen it before) but it’s perfect to compare with today’s look.

This is another example of how to wear a bright shirt- yet this outfit isn’t working for several reasons. The tight orange shirt with the high collar and strange cuffs looks awful (especially tucked in), and the mid calf cropped jeans are really unflattering for many reasons. The high waist being one of them. Lastly, the tennis shoes- please, please don’t wear tennis shoes with jeans. It’s not cute. We’ll talk more about that another day…

Adding this blazer polishes the outfit up a bit.

I love this orange bracelet, thank you Julie!

Oct 22nd, Tried and True

It’s nice to have an outfit in your closet that is your old standby, something that is tried and true and will look great no matter what.

It’s perfect for those days when you look in your closet and think “I have nothing to wear”!

Believe me, this happens to me all the time!

And when it does- I simply reach for one of my many striped shirts- add a pair of dark denim jeans and then throw on a cute blazer (rolling up the sleeves- of course). Finally, I add a statement necklace (or scarf) to finish the look.

It’s a simple, classic look that works for almost any occasion.  In my opinion, sometimes it’s ok to be safe!

I actually wore this over the weekend to an awards ceremony I was attending for my daughter. I was worried about wearing jeans- but being Seattle- there were many people in jeans (and some even in sweats! Really people?!).

June 16th, A Bittersweet Ending

Hello Friends!

Today is sort of a sad day for me, because I need to stop writing Everyday Mom Style for a bit.

You may have noticed I haven’t been writing as regularly as before… I apologize for that. My life is so busy right now (like everyone else’s) and I think it’s time to take a little break.

A summer hiatus, if you will.

I have truly loved writing everyday- and sharing with you all what I’m wearing. It’s been a tremendous learning experience for me.

A pair of jeans and a blazer is one of my favorite looks! It’s so classic and easy to look pulled together.

I’ve learned what works for me, and what doesn’t.

I’ve learned that by putting in just a small amount of effort I can really change my look.

I’ve learned that I adore stripes, and blazers, and scarfs, and skinny jeans!

I’ve learned that spending a bit more on a classic well made piece is worth it (my white skinny pants from J Crew are a great example! I didn’t want to spend that much on a pair of jeans- but I wear them about once a week- so worth the price!).

I’ve learned that a great piece of jewelry can make an outfit.

I’ve learned that I like classic, traditional clothes!

But truly, most of what I’ve learned has come from you all.

Thank you so much for following me through this journey, for your kind comments, suggestions and giving me the confidence to do this! It’s been really fun!

Come back tomorrow to see my final post (which will be a review of the outfits of the month)!

And, you never know… come Fall, I may decide to start up again?!

April 10th, Cargos with Some Color

Today I’m wearing my cargo skinnys with a cute bright tank and my blue blazer- which is all tied together with this colorful belt, that I’m wearing backwards!

It may be a little strange, but I wanted to really show the colors on the belt, and when it is on the normal way, you can only see the leather buckle.

So I figured, turn it around, the jacket hides the buckle part, and now you can see the colors!

For my before picture I’m showing my old cargos AGAIN! I know I should donate these to Goodwill, but there are just so perfect for comparing to the skinny cargos that I have to keep them. The loose, baggy fit isn’t current and looks sloppy.

In the before picture, I kept the tank white- just to compare how different the bright tank under the blazer looks. Then to break up the solid pink, I added a necklace.  Finally, for my shoes- I chose these off white wedge heels- they are perfect for spring- and being a wedge- very comfy!

The belt is on backwards- and looking at the picture it isn't fitting quite right, but maybe if I loosened it a tiny bit it might fit better.
Sadie wanted to be in the picture!

Dec 9th, 30 for 30- Day 9

I’m working this morning, so I want to look professional, yet it’s Friday, so I imagine most people will be in jeans.

To solve that problem, I’ll combine the two! It’s like a mullet- business in front, party in back!

Except in my case, it’s business on top, party down below. No wait, that sounds perverted! Never mind!

You get the idea…

This outfit reminds me of my Jennifer Aniston inspired outfit that I wore here.

I’m wearing my casual boyfriend style jeans (I unrolled the hem) and this cute eggplant colored draped top. I’m a big fan of draping because it hides any bulges!

To make my look more professional, I threw on this blazer and a necklace.

A casual, yet office appropriate outfit for Friday! TGIF!

Sept 19, Searisly?

Classic blue blazer from Sears! Yes, you heard me right!

I know, I know, I spelled seriously wrong. I did it on purpose because I am so excited about my new blazer from Sears. Yes, you heard me right, Sears! Who knew? I have been looking for a cute blue blazer to complete my wardrobe when I stumbled across this gem at Sears. It is Land’s End brand- so I know the quality it excellent- and the price was the best part. Originally $189, I snapped this baby up for $50. It was on super clearance. Now hurry- go to Sears and get your own! Keep in mind, it runs small.

I love the style book- The Lucky Guide to Mastering any Style. In this book they talk about different style inspirations and help you determine which one best suits you. I am American Classic. I love everything about that look- and this outfit is a perfect example of that. Crisp white pants, a chambray blue button down, blue blazer and a strand of pearls. Can’t get much more classic that that- can you?

What style are you? Check out the book to see!

Off white pants are appropriate all year round.
