Feb 27, J Crew

I’ve always been a fan of J Crew. Their clothes are well made, classic- and totally my style.

Today’s outfit started with blue jeans and this checkered blue and white shirt from J Crew. Untucked and buttoned up, it looks boring- and the bulky Uggs aren’t adding any style.

To add some interest to this outfit (and because I am always cold!) I threw on this cute blue sweater over my shirt. I love the tails peeking out underneath. To top it off, I added this cute military inspired jacket and rolled up the sleeves. This style of jacket is very popular right now- and let me tell you a little secret, mine is from Ross, I think I paid about $30 for it. What a steal!

To complete my outfit I swapped out the Uggs for my favorite boots- my Paul Green grey suede booties. These are almost as comfy as my Uggs, and much cuter!

If I get too warm, I can take off my jacket and still have a cute outfit.

The school I’m teaching at today is having a ‘Wear Blue for Kindness’ day today! I love that elementary schools are teaching kindness! We could all stand to be a little kinder!

I wanted to show how this cute sweater dips down in the back.

Jan 14th, Cargo Style

DSCN6414DSCN6418 If you are a long time reader you’ll remember that a while back I was on the hunt for some skinny cargos. My sister ended up finding these for me- they are Michael Kors (did you know he had a clothing line in addition to purses and shoes?!).

I really love these pants- they are exactly what I was looking for- soft cotton, enough stretch that I can actually move in them, and I love the skinny style.

Now my only problem is what to wear them with?!

Today I decided to go with a blue open knit sweater. Like the pants, this sweater is super soft- and the long length is perfect for skinny pants (read: my bum is covered). It’s really hard to see in the photos- but this sweater actually has a cute striped pattern to it. I tried to take a close up photo- but it didn’t translate very well (sorry!).  For my shoes I opted for my black wedge booties*. And to finish the whole look off, I chose this Stella and Dot necklace.

I think this a much better outfit than the one on the right- the short cardigan is too plain on it’s own- and the length doesn’t work with the skinny cargos (absolutely no bum coverage here). The black sneakers are also a distraction- they seem dated and frumpy.

Kind of a weird pose, but I wanted you to see the cute slit on the sides!

*Full disclosure- I’m actually working from home today- so I’m not wearing these heels around the house. I have on my comfy Birkenstocks- but I know you don’t want to see those! 🙂

Sept 26th, Living in My Car!

Some days I feel like I live in my car.

Yesterday I left my house at 3:30- got home at 7:00- and all I was doing was driving kids from one sporting event to the next (pick up from tennis, drive to basketball practice, drive to soccer game…). Over scheduled much?

Argh! On days like these I want to be dressed super comfy- and ready for anything,

Today’s outfit is a good example of that. It’s an easy outfit for running around town in- it’s casual & comfy- yet looks pulled together.

I like the look of the shirt tails peeking out- and I love the cable knit detail on this sweater- I even decided to skip a necklace and let the sweater speak for itself.

As for my jeans- these are my old favorites! They are Diva style from Old Navy (which I’m not sure if they are still making this style- these are old). They are straight leg jeans in a shorter length that I simply roll up to make them look cropped. They are the perfect casual jeans for running errands in!

April 12th, Moody Blues

After a nice week of sunshine, now we have 50 degrees and rain, so I’ve got the blues.**

As such, I’ve decided to wear  this gorgeous blue dolman sleeve sweater paired with my cropped white toothpick pants from J Crew.

To keep this from being too plain, and to tie the pants and sweater together, I added a blue and white scarf*.

On the right I originally tried  the sweater with cropped jeans- and while I have said to dress in all one color (to look taller and slimmer)- in this case, it doesn’t work.

Part of the problem is simply the way I’m wearing the sweater.  Notice the long sleeves and how the waistband is pulled way down. The black shoes aren’t helping either.

On the left the white pants are more ‘springy’ and the snakeskin flats are also a much lighter look. Pushing the sleeves up also helps!

Even though it's Spring- I still need a sweater, it's chilly out there!

*If you read yesterday’s post about scarfs- this one is tied in a knot to create a faux infinity scarf.

** I stand corrected- Mother Nature surprised me this morning and the sun is actually out. Thank you!! (I wrote this post late last night after a grey day of rain).

Dec 20th, 30 for 30 Day 20

I’ve read that dressing from head to toe in one color is slimming, and God knows after all the junk I’ve been eating (and drinking) lately, I could use a slimming outfit- so here I go.

Unfortunately, in my outfit on the right I look a little plain and awkward. Part of it is the bulge of my belt under the sweater. It looks like I’m packing heat! I’m not, I promise!!

Since I’m pretty much all blue- it’s important to have something different about my look- hence the necklace. I picked up this little number at Forever 21- one of my favorite places for cheap jewelry. Go often though- sometimes it’s a total miss!

Just to give the outfit a bit more shape and definition, I’ve also tucked in my sweater showing off this cool braided belt. Another simple and easy outfit using only a few items from my closet!

The colors of the necklace add some interest to my otherwise plain look.
