I apologize in advance for oversharing, but I’m a bit bloated today- and didn’t want to squeeze into jeans, so instead I opted for this long black cotton dress. It’s the ultimate in comfort- no tight waistband, no clinging in the hips, no pinching seams… just a super easy black dress.
All alone though, it’s a little basic, so I wanted to add something to it. I decided that since the dress is so comfy, I needed to stick with that and add even more comfort- hence, the teddy coat. This is actually my daughter’s coat from American Eagle, but she let me borrow it for today. And oh my gosh, I may never give it back! It’s like wearing your favorite blanket, but better! It’s truly the coziest thing ever and may be my new favorite item!
Keeping with the comfort theme, I decided to wear my black tennis shoes. To be honest, I struggle with what shoes to wear with this dress because of the length. In the summer I wore flip flops or flat sandals, but now that it’s cold and I need a closed toe shoe, I find it to be a challenge . The black Adidas tennis shoes give the outfit a casual, street style that I like. Plus, they are super comfy- so win- win! Here’s to the weekend! 🙂
Thank you for the kind words of encouragement yesterday! That was really unexpected- but also so helpful for when I was doubting myself! 😄 Knowing that people enjoy my posts, makes it worth it! 🤗 No before and after today, just a super cute red and blue striped dress for another 🌞 day! I love that this dress has a tied waist – giving it some shape and definition. I also think the neckline is sweet- it’s not too low (no cleavage here). Brown braided leather sandals complete the simple look. Dress is Old Navy, but really old!! Shoes are also old, from Target.
In my opinion, every girl (or, mom) should own at least 1 LBD (Little Black Dress). When you can’t think of anything else to wear, you can always throw on your LBD. Personally, I own at least 6…
Today I am showing 2 different cotton versions that are perfect for casual summer day.
Both of these are SUPER old- the one on the left is Lucky Brand. The one on the right is from Macy’s. Both are made of cotton- so comfy, casual and easy to wear. It is perfect for running errands, lunch out with friends or even date night.
Now I have to decide which one I will wear this evening…
Welcome to a second week of Reader’s Request! This week’s question has come from more than one reader- and I’ll admit it’s a tough one. It almost stumped me!
The question is: what to wear in Disneyworld?
This is a great question because while you want to look cute, you must also keep in mind that you will be on your feet all day!
No matter how comfortable you want to be, please- whatever you do- don’t wear the outfit on the right!
This oversize t shirt is so unflattering, and the cropped yoga pants make my legs look really short! Don’t even get me started on the tennis shoes!
However, you do want to wear something that is very comfortable.
That being said- my suggestion is a short, loose, cotton dress. The fabric must be breathable (hence the cotton), and the length should be at the knee. I wouldn’t suggest a maxi dress because climbing in and out of rides could get tricky with a long dress. I like black because it won’t show dirt as easily- and the loose fit will allow me to eat all day long and not worry about a food baby!
Remove the scarf as soon as you warm up.
I love a dress because it can transition from day to night easily- (especially if you are going to Disneyland- it gets cold in CA at night!).  A dress is so easy to layer- throw a scarf, a cardigan and a pair of leggings in your backpack- and when the sun goes down you can easily add whatever you need.
By far, the most important part of your outfit is your shoes. You will be on your feet for probably 12 hours, so more than anything you need your feet to be extremely comfortable.
Let me just share with you my new FAVORITE shoe! It’s a Dansko sandal and I am seriously in LOVE with this shoe!
I wore it last week when I flew to California- I put them on at 4:30 am and wore them until 9:00 pm and my feet did not hurt at all. I swear!
This is coming from someone who usually has horrible lower back pain, serious fatigue and aching feet and I honestly felt amazing. I never knew a shoe could make such a difference.
Please take my advice and go buy yourself some. Wear them around the house a few days before you go- don’t ever wear brand new shoes to Disney (I’ve made this mistake and had to wear my clunky tennis shoes on the second day- and you know how I feel about that!).
There you have it- please feel free to comment and let us know what you would wear to Disney!
Use your scarf as a blanket when the sun goes down!
Throw on a cardigan if you get chilly.

Today’s post is a bit different, because truth be told- I hate this dress!
I bought it when shopping with my mom, and lesson learned! She’ll tell me I look cute in anything, when in reality this dress is so unflattering.
I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating. When in doubt about something, take a picture of yourself wearing it. For some strange reason, the camera seems to be more honest than the mirror!
The major problem with this dress is the high waist and the diagonal stripes. Now you all know how much I love my stripes- but in this case- they are working against me. They make me look really large through the hip and tummy area. The denim jacket is emphasizing that- by drawing your eye right to my middle. ARGH! The flat ankle strap sandals are also shortening the length of my legs- not to mention very matronly!
To salvage this look (because I already cut the tags off the dress), I’m wearing it paired with a blue trench coat and heels. The trench coat helps break up the stripes, defines the waist and the light blue adds a nice soft contrasting color to the yellow.
It still isn’t my favorite look- but I decided to show it to you all so that you can see how something as simple as a diagonal stripe can be so unflattering.

The high heel sandal makes my legs look a lot longer (although my feet will probably ache at the end of the day).
True story:  my 11 year old son is really into trends (flat hats, silly bands, kendamos, Nike Elite socks, gyms shorts to name a few!) Today he suggested that I start a trend.
I explained to him that I am far too old and too uncool to start any trends – but he persisted. His suggestion was to ask all my readers to wear a black dress today.
So, in honor of Liam’s request, if you have a LBD (little black dress)- wear it today! And send me a pic! (everydaymomstyle@gmail.com). I’ll post any that you send! 🙂
I have several LBD’s- some for evening wear, some for day wear, some for pool wear… a gal can never have too many!
Today I’m showing 2 of them. The one on the right is a wrap dress, that I bought because I read somewhere that this is a wardrobe staple. Â I’m sure it is- but this particular dress is too long! See how it hits below my knee? Too matronly!
On the left is my updated dress. This cute little cotton number is one of my favorites! I love the details on the sleeves, love the neckline, love the banded waist. Being cotton- it’s super soft and comfy.
I’ve paired it with my Birkenstocks (still nursing my feet) and a cute necklace. I also wanted to show this cute summer handbag (although it’s really old!). Â I love the combo of the cream linen and black trim!
This dress is great for a warm day- much more comfortable than shorts, and perfect for the office!
If your office is air conditioned, throw a blazer over the dress- it instantly makes it look like a suit!
Here I’m modeling the Danskos again. I still haven’t decided if I’m going to keep them…
It’s Monday, which means I’m heading into the office today, which means I need to dress somewhat nice!
I’ve chosen this cotton red Michael Stars dress. It’s super comfy, I like the bright red color, the bell sleeves and faux wrap style.
My only issue is the length. I’m a little worried that it’s too long (since it hits me below the knee) but paired with my black boots I think it works. What do you think?
I do know that at least it’s better than the dress on the right.
I call this my ‘nun outfit’. The length is awful- hitting me right above the ankle. This is not flattering at all. It’s very matronly and old fashioned looking. I bought this over 12 years ago and it’s been sitting in my closet ever since. Now I know why!
I’m hooking up with Monday Mingle today. Be sure to check it out for other great ideas.
For you petite gals who want to look taller, here is another great example of how to dress in all one color.
