You may have noticed this about me- but in case you haven’t, I’ll state the obvious. I love neutrals! I feel very comfortable in neutrals- and especially love wearing clothes in the same color family. The only problem is that it can be really plain and boring- as seen on the right!
In my ‘after’ look, I replaced the tan t shirt with a cable knit sweater. The cable knit adds a subtle pattern, and the denim shirt underneath is a nice contrast. I especially like the tails hanging out below the sweater (breaks up the solid cream) and the sleeves rolled up (another place to add a bit of color). As for my feet- I chose my loafers.
Now I have a comfy, warm and cute outfit- too bad I’m just heading back to lay on my couch! LOL!
If you’ve been reading for a while, you will know I wear very few patterns and that I rarely wear anything too bright.
I try to incorporate colors into my wardrobe, but I’m much more comfortable in classic neutrals.
So here is today’s outfit: I really love this look; just simple cream cords, a chambray shirt and a light camel colored sweater. To complete the look I chose my brown boots. It’s an easy and comfortable look for work or running errands or attending a holiday lunch at school (which I am doing!).
The outfit on the right is to illustrate that you can’t just throw on any neutral and think it will work- this outfit is clearly not working!

And, truth be told- I played in a tennis match this afternoon (I lost), so I am just now getting dressed for the day.
I’m wearing my cream cords and a gray sweater. To add a little interest- and to tie the pants and sweater together, I added this cute scarf. It is not an infinity scarf- but I safety pinned the ends together to make it into one. I then looped the whole thing around my head 3 times. So easy!

I love the asymmetrical hemline of this sweater- it is so much more interesting than a straight hemline!
Let’s face it, as ‘springy’ as I want it to be- it’s still a little chilly out there, so today I’m wearing my cream cords.
They are warm and comfy- and with the light color, I think appropriate for spring.
I’ve paired them with this pretty jewel toned shell- and then added a long beige cardigan over the top.
Tying the look together is this long pendant necklace.
Finally, to make it more ‘work appropriate’ I’m wearing my pointy toed snakeskin heels. If you’re just running errands- stick to flats! (I would!).
My before picture (on the right) doesn’t work because it is too wintery. The long, black pants, black sweater and black shoes- all are too dark! This might work in December, but for the spring I want to brighten up!
Love this pretty shell from Loft but I think I will add a belt to my outfit- it's missing that tiny detail. Probably better iron my pants as well. LOL!
My sisters arrived yesterday after a very turbulent flight- so we had a few glasses of wine to calm our nerves…
Hence, we’re off to a late start today! LOL!
Here’s pic from last night- wearing our jammies and sipping our wine. We look pretty comfy, right?
Today we are going to hit the town and decided to dress in the theme of chambray. Each of us is wearing a different version of the same idea- a chambray shirt being the focus.
My older sister, Erin, has paired hers with red skinny jeans. She is a great example of how a large breasted, bigger tummy gal can wear skinny jeans (size 30). Paired with this tunic style shirt and pretty necklace, her legs look skinny and her boobs and tummy are hidden- she looks amazing.
I’m in the middle with a chambray shirt under a blue cable knit sweater. I’ve paired them with my cream cords and my Khol’s booties, and then I borrowed this cool bracelet from my sis.
Last is my little sis, Kara, who has on skinny jeans, a chambray shirt in a different wash and a grandpa sweater. She was worried she looked boring, but I don’t think so. I think she looks classic. Notice the all the details in her look- she has on an amazing belt, beautiful necklace and a gorgeous bracelet.
Not to mention her amazing shoes. These are the J Crew version of mine- (mine were around $40, hers were over $200) so definitely a splurge, but they are so stinking cute- and honestly they are much more comfortable than mine.
Come back tomorrow to see what we put together using only items from their suitcase… should be a fun!
I remember when I was trying on wedding dresses (years ago) the salesperson commented that I had a lovely clavicle and should show it off.
At the time, I had no idea what my clavicle was- so the strange compliment went over my head.
I’m not sure why I even shared that, except that when you have a part of your body that you are proud of- it’s ok to show it off. (Not that I’m actually proud of my clavicle- but you get the point).
If you have lovely long legs- wear mini skirts, fabulous arms- wear sleeveless tops, great cleavage- a v neck top, a lovely clavicle- an open neckline.
This top shows off my lovely clavicle (such that it is).
All kidding aside, I actually really love this outfit- it is so simple, yet it works. I love outfits in neutral colors- they seem so natural, easy and effortless to me.
However, even a neutral outfit can go wrong. On the right I’ve got on a plain long sleeve shirt- and it just doesn’t do anything for this outfit. There is nothing interesting standing out in this look.
On the left I have switched out the plain shirt for this cute sweater with the flattering neckline. I’ve layered a purple tank under the sweater (which is a stretch for me- I usually always just wear a plain white tank- but I thought this little hint of color might be fun). I’ve then added a long necklace and a bracelet (rule of 3) and finished the look with my booties.

A solid color sweater doesn't have to be boring. This ruffled neckline gives it a little interest.
Weekend wear! I’m planning on spending most of the day lounging around the house- so ideally I wouldn’t even get dressed- I’d hang out in jammies all day! Sounds heavenly.
But, my son has a basketball game, so that’s not going to work!
I decided to go with an outfit that feels as comfy as jammies- these cream cords are amazingly soft, stretchy and warm. Perfect!
On top I’ve put on this utlra comfy (loose fitting) striped shirt. To keep warm, and add a little color. I threw on my denim jacket.
As for my feet- I want to take a minute to answer a question a reader emailed! She also lives in Seattle and wondered if my feet get cold when I go without socks.
The truthful answer is that yes, if I’m outside my feet do get cold. But, when I know I’ll be mostly inside- I’m fine. Especially if the rest of me is warm!
