Sept 19, Leather Jacket

First off, let me apologize for not blogging the last 2 days. I posted my outfits on Instagram, so if you’re curious, head over there to see what I wore…

Now, on to today’s look. Funny story about this leather jacket. My husband bought it for me years ago at Nordstrom, and while I think it’s gorgeous, I was never really sure how to wear it. So, it sat in my closet for years gathering dust. I actually had it in a pile of clothes that I tried to take to my local consignment store to consign. Having never done that before, I wasn’t aware of the process. The lady at the store was sort of rude to me since I didn’t have an appointment. Without even looking at my clothes, she told me she wasn’t interested in what I had. I sheepishly left feeling rather insulted. When I got home I left the bag of clothes in my garage, not sure what to do with them. A few days later I saw on Fashion Jackson (one of my all time favorite Insta style gals) a fabulous photo of her wearing a leather jacket- so I decided to resurrect mine from the garage and give it a try… and here you go!

Tonight I’m going out wine tasting with some friends, so I decided this would be a perfect night to break it out. It’s a much more stylish look than the North Face jacket on the left. Other little changes that you may notice- I am wearing a much cuter white top in the outfit on the right. The top on the left has a weird neckline (that V is so high!) and it is too clingy. The top on the right is rayon, which drapes much better. I also swapped out the rounded toe leopard flats for the pointy toe version and added a long necklace. By making these little adjustments, I now have a cute and stylish outfit to wear out tonight! So thank you rude sales lady, you actually saved me from giving up a fabulous jacket!

The details on this jacket make it interesting!

August 30, Date Night

This is my ‘fake date night outfit’, I say ‘fake’ because I’m not really going on a date with my husband tonight, unless you count watching TV on the couch together a date? If so- than I have a HOT date tonight! But… if we were going out on the town- this is what I would wear. I love the all black look- but as usual, just throwing on black jeans & a black top is not stylish. I know I say this ALL THE TIME but it comes down to details.

In the outfit on the right, the blouse has some lovely details. It’s super hard to see in the photo, but below is a close up so you will get a better look. This sheer top with Swiss dots has a built in v neck camisole underneath. It’s a leotard, so it all stays together nicely and doesn’t come untucked. Plus, I love the poofy sleeves, and the ladylike neckline. Paired with  ripped black jeans & pointy heels = a sexy, edgy date night outfit. Now if I could just get my hubby off the couch?! LOL! Truthfully, on Fridays, we are both so exhausted that the couch is my favorite place to be!

August 17, 1 Dress, 2 Ways

Today I’m showing a cute dress that I bought years ago in Chelan (cute little lake town in Eastern Washington). I have worn this dress to a summer wedding, a cocktail party, an auction and also for date night. I think the pattern is really fun- and very different than what I usually wear. It’s made of polyester (but looks like silk), so it is super comfy and lightweight. It’s a very versatile dress- in that it can easily be changed from dressy to casual by simply throwing on a jacket and changing shoes- as seen below.

July 20, Date Night

We have a rare weekend where both kids are gone- so my hubby and I are having a date night tonight.

One of my favorite Insta style gals is @Fashion_Jackson. She wears a ton of neutrals and always looks amazing! So, with her as my inspiration, I have chosen black jeans and a simple white top. However, as you can see- there is a huge difference between the outfit on the left and the right. On the right I have replaced the regular jeans with a distressed pair. This gives the outfit a little attitude and edge. I also replaced the orthopedic sandals with my pointy toed heels. I’ll be honest, these kill my feet and I will only wear them if I know I will be sitting most of the night. But don’t they look good?! Lastly, I swapped out the thin white tank for this cute faux silk draped tank. It’s a dressier, and dare I say, sexier look. I purposely kept the neckline clean- I have on a delicate necklace (hard to see in photos, sorry) but to add some interest, I am wearing a statement bracelet.

March 3, Date Night

Today’s OOTD is what I wore last night on a date with my hubby. It was actually a double date- we went with another couple to a local Indian restaurant. My friend, Angela, is always super stylish- so I wanted to be sure to wear something special.

Being a fan of neutrals, I choose black and cream for my outfit. However, in the photo on the left- the black dress pants are fine- but they are way too long and puddle at my feet. The plain cream shirt with the high neckline and the boring black ballet flats don’t add any interest to this outfit.

Swap out the dress pants for ripped skinny black jeans, and this cute v neck sweater (and black lacy bralette) replaced the boring shirt. My favorite part of this outfit is my shoes. These snakeskin slingbacks add a fun pattern to an otherwise plain outfit. Other details to complete the look are the gold belt, a couple of necklaces and bracelets.

You don’t have to do the half tuck!

This sweater is from a local in home boutique, OC Style- super affordable and chic clothes! Follow her on instagram @shopocstyle
This bralette is from Target! So comfy, I’ve actually slept in it!

I’ve worn these cute ripped black jeans a few times- like here and here!

Looking Back

Hello Readers-Sorry it’s been a while since I wrote.

The holiday season was so busy for me (as I’m sure it was for you too!) that I just couldn’t find time to write.

Today I will simply be showing a bunch of outfits that I wore in Dec. Some I blogged about, others I just wore and took a picture of. Enjoy!

I hope you had a safe and happy New Year!

March 24th, Auction Attire

I’m volunteering at our local hospital’s huge fundraising auction tonight, so I thought I’d show you what I’m wearing.

The auction will be pretty formal- but I also need to be comfy since I’ll be running around all night.

The key to that is my shoes. I’ve opted for my black wedge heels. They are stylish, but with the wedge heel- they will make is easy to be on my feet all night.

The dress I’ve chosen is one of my favorites. It’s a gorgeous blue color, made of viscose (rayon) so it’s super soft & comfy and the draped neckline is flattering. For accessories, I’m wearing necklace, black belt and bracelet.

A black bracelet adds to the look.

Jan 22, Hooker Fashion?

I’ll be the first to admit I’m getting old, which probably means I’m out of touch with what is current.

I was at the mall last night (yes, sad life that I lead- I’m at the mall on a Saturday night) and I saw several women dressed like hookers (except they weren’t – at least I don’t think so).

They were simply out  on a date wearing (in my opinion) totally inappropriate clothing.

I swear, I saw 3 different women with skirts so short I literally couldn’t believe it was even possible. And heels so high, I don’t know how they were walking.

Where is my camera when I need it?!

The thing that really looked weird to me (besides the fact they were at a mall dressed like this) was that their dates were dressed perfectly normal. Jeans, jackets and casual shoes…

Is this fashion? Am I too old to recognize style? Possibly!

To me, this picture above is an appropriate date outfit. I’m wearing black skinny pants, wedge shoes (open toed sandals or heels would have been even better- but there is snow on the ground), a sequined top and a black blazer. I don’t think anyone will confuse me with a working girl- and my hubby will have no fear that the entire world will see my private parts.

Call me old fashioned, call my judgemental- but let’s leave something to the imagination people.

Enough preaching. Enjoy your Sunday.

More and more style bloggers are wearing sequins during the day. Would you?
