Oct 18, 6 Ways to Wear a Graphic T Shirt

For my final day in my ‘theme week’ I have chosen to show a graphic t shirt worn 6 different ways! This was actually a lot of fun for me- because up until a year ago I would have NEVER worn a graphic t shirt anywhere but to bed! But I’ve been inspired by all the fashion posts on Instagram. I see women of all ages rocking a graphic t and looking super stylish! So here goes my take on how to wear a graphic t shirt!

  1. Distressed jeans/ Free People Blazer/ Black Booties
  2. Black distressed jeans/ Faux fur vest/ Paul Green flats
  3. White distressed jeans/ grey and white shrug sweater, grey booties
  4. Black pencil skirt/ denim jacket, leopard flats
  5. Dark skinny jeans, off white blazer, pointy toe heels
  6. Wide leg jeans, casual grey cardigan, loafers

Now I need to decide which I like best! I’d love to hear your thoughts!

By the way, this cute T shirt is from Target!!

Sept 12, Back to School

Today is my first day going back to school. For those of you who don’t know, I’m a substitute teacher in elementary schools. I have missed teaching, and am excited to be back in the classroom!

For my back to school outfit I have chosen this black eyelet dress. While it’s still chilly this morning, I will add a denim jacket, and since I will be on my feet ALL DAY I need super comfy shoes like tennis shoes. But, comparing the before and after photos- you can see that subtle changes make all the difference. In the before photo my jacket is too dark and the sleeves are too long. I also have on white tennis shoes, which I usually love- but in this case feel like they look like nurse shoes. In the after outfit I have replaced the dark denim with a more faded one- which gives contrast between the dress and jacket. I also rolled the sleeves to give it a more casual vibe. I chose my Converse All Stars instead of the white tennis shoes. They are still super comfy, but look better. My last little detail is a necklace that I threw on. It’s so hard to see, but if you look super close, you can see a little black dot at my neckline. Tiny detail, but it still matters.

August 24, Maxi Dress

I have to say I have the BEST friends in the world- and I am so grateful for them. Yesterday, to keep my mind off my son being 2000 miles away, my friends Alice, Annie and Christy planned a girls day out of tennis, lunch & shopping. This is what I wore!

I started off with this cute grey maxi dress that I found at Marshalls for $20.

I love a maxi dress. It’s such an easy and comfy outfit- but a little plain on it’s own. So, I swapped out my flip flops for my cute snakeskin sandals. I then threw on my denim jacket (rolled the sleeves of course) and added a cute long necklace with a turquoise stone.

Have you noticed I’ve been finding some great stuff at Marshalls lately? I love that store! The key is going often and being very particular. I know what brands I like- and I study what is currently trending- and then see what I can find. Some days I walk away empty handed- and that’s ok!

My jacket is from Target (similar), the shoes are old and from Clarks, but here are some similar ones. The dress is Marshalls, but Here is a similar one I found on Amazon!

August 6, Maxi Dress

Tonight is National Night Out and my neighborhood is having a street party & BBQ to celebrate. The idea is to gather neighbors together to get to know one another, as well as form a relationship with local police. The more you know your neighbors, the safer your community is!

I’m going to wear this cute maxi dress that I bought back in June at Nordstrom Rack. There is something retro about this dress that I love. The embroidery reminds me of something my mom would have worn in the 70’s. I love the vertical stripes because they make my legs look longer, and the cute ruffle detail at the hem adds some interest. Best of all, it has pockets. I LOVE a dress with pockets!

Since there is so much going on with the dress, I’ve kept my accessories very simple with a dainty necklace, a few bracelets and flat sandals. Once the sun goes down, I will throw on my dark denim jacket to keep warm.

Is your neighborhood celebrating National Night Out? If so, have fun! 🙂

May 9th, Black Eyelet Dress

You may remember on Easter I wore my white eyelet dress from J Crew. I loved that dress so much, that when I saw the Target version (a few years ago) I snatched that up as well. Today, I am showing how I wore it last week in Vegas.

It’s a cute, comfy dress perfect for a casual day outfit- or even for a night out with friends. I kept it simple and casual by adding flat black strappy sandals and my denim jacket to keep warm. The length is appropriate for my age (over 40), and the cute v neck and capped sleeves add nice detail. As you can probably tell lately, I really love wearing dresses. They are perfect for Spring weather- and easy since you don’t have to worry about matching top and bottom. Plus, they are so comfy!

And if you are thinking ‘dresses are too dressy… I’d feel silly wearing a dress to the grocery store’, here’s a super casual option. Throw on a baseball cap, tennis shoes and grab a big bag that holds everything. Add a denim jacket to keep warm & dangly earrings to add a touch of fun! Honestly, dresses can be worn anywhere!

May 1, Another Airplane Outfit

As I mentioned yesterday, I’m off on another trip today, this time I’m heading to Vegas for the National Charity League national conference. For my plane journey, I’m wearing black jeans (as I did on my last trip), but this time I am pairing them with a cute v neck grey t shirt and my denim jacket. In the before photo I am wearing black joggers and a dark denim jacket. As much as I love those joggers- I will wear black jeans instead, since I want to pack light and can wear the jeans multiple times. I also plan on wearing the denim jacket a couple of times, and  I like the faded denim better than the dark wash. Rolling the sleeve of the denim jacket gives the outfit a casual vibe.

The grey shirt with the deeper v neck is more flattering than the white one on the left where the neckline is too high.

I’m also wearing slip on loafers- easy for going through security! Lastly, I will most definitely add a scarf- see photo below. The last trip I went on, I used my scarf almost every single day. It was so much colder than I thought it would be. Hopefully Vegas will be a bit warmer, but it’s always a good idea to keep a scarf in your bag for over air conditioned restaurants or hotel conference rooms!  This faux Burberry scarf is a great piece! It looks classy and can be draped over my shoulders as a shawl, or wrapped around my neck as seen here- or if I’m really desperate, can be a swim suit coverup!

April 24, Camo Again

I was out with three friends last night celebrating a birthday- and of the four of us, I was the only one not wearing camo! I’m telling you- this pattern is all the rage. So, to keep up with my stylish buddies, today I am rocking my camo v neck t shirt from American Eagle!

I’ve talked about these American Eagle shirts before, but I’ll mention it again- these are the softest cotton shirts in the world! In my before picture, I am wearing the shirt loose and paired it with my joggers and tennis shoes. It is super comfy, but not stylish. By simply rolling the cuffs a tiny bit, doing the half tuck, adding my denim jacket and changing the shoes- I now have a much cuter, more stylish outfit.

March 5, Black Joggers

My OOTD is what I’m wearing today to go get my physical. I realized it had been over 3 years since I’d had one, so today’s the big day. Sorry for over-sharing, but it’s important to take care of your health. In order to be comfy and casual, I’ve chosen black joggers, a white shirt and a denim jacket.

In my before look, my white v neck shirt is too high, the denim jacket is too dark with the black joggers and I need to show a little skin at the ankle. In my after look, I pushed up my pant legs a little, swapped out the blue tennis shoes for grey/ black slip ons and replaced the white shirt with a cuter version that has a deeper v neck. I traded the dark denim jacket for this lighter version and rolled the sleeves up a bit. It’s the same basic outfit – just a cuter/ better version.

Notice the cute detailing at the shoulders.

Feb 18, Striped Dress

I used to love this striped maxi dress (on the left), I used to wear it with a t shirt over the top- and thought I looked cute, until I saw this picture of myself wearing it. Yikes! First of all, it’s way too long, and the horizontal stripes on my curvy body just aren’t flattering!

The mixed up stripes on the blue and white maxi are more flattering than the stripes on the grey and white dress. It also has a looser cut, which doesn’t hug my hips as much. The denim jacket adds a nice casual touch. Roll up the sleeves & add some cute bracelets to add a little style. Swap out the Birkenstocks for cute wedges and I’m good to go!

Feb 15, Basics

You may notice that I took these photos before I went on vacation- a girl’s gotta plan her outfits, right? One thing I like to do when traveling is pick a few basic colors to build outfits around- then I can mix and match as needed. I usually stick to black, white and denim. They all compliment each other well, and it’s easy to come up with several different looks from just a few key pieces.

In my before look, the black t shirt’s neckline is too high- notice how in the after look the lower V neckline of my camisole shows a little skin (but not too much!). This is a great camisole as it has a cute little fold detail (see photo), which causes it to hang really well. I got this at Uniqlo, and it also comes in a bright orange color. Adding a necklace to the tank also gives it a little interest.

To change up the jacket, I rolled the sleeves, giving it a casual vibe. Lastly, I changed out my Birkenstocks for these cute summary wedges. These are from Clarks, and they are old- but what a great shoe. The color is so versatile, it goes with everything!  I usually have a hard time wearing heels, but wedges are so comfy you can wear them all day. And look how much longer my legs look!  Now I just need the desert weather to warm up a bit! It rained all day yesterday. Guess I shouldn’t complain, it’s better than snow!
