Dec 29th, 30 for 30- Day 29

Today’s outfit is a bit of risk- and to be honest, I’m not sure how I feel about it!

I haven’t worn this skirt a single time in this challenge, so I was feeling sorry for it!  (does anyone else do that?)

While I was tempted to pair it with my black turtleneck- as I did here– I figured we have all seen enough of the black turtleneck.

Instead, I decided to mix patterns by wearing a blue and white striped shirt with this Ikat skirt. Mixing patterns is all the rage! (but is it me?!)

To keep to my rule of three (3 items of interest in the top half of my outfit), I then decided to throw on my denim jacket and this cool necklace my hubby got me for Christmas.

Now for the bottom half- since it is winter- and my legs were frozen- I knew I needed tights. I figured black was too dark (and since I’m wearing blue didn’t want to mix the two), and cream was too light. Hence, the grey tights.

Then I was stuck on shoes. What on earth to wear? I decided my desert booties might be a fun twist…

Luckily I’m going to the movies today- so even if this is a total bust, in the dark no one will see me!

I'm just not sure about the tights and shoes...

Dec 17th, 30 for 30- Day 17

I’m back in Seattle, and planning on spending the entire day getting ready for a party we are hosting tonight at my house.

I need clothes that are functional, cute and easy to cook/ clean in- so I’d like to be wearing my Birkenstocks and sweatpants.

But, since I have a friend coming over to help me, and I do have to run a few errands, I’m going to put a little effort into my look.

I’ve chosen my skinny black pants- these are like wearing sweatpants, they are very comfy! I’ve added a tank top- and then thrown on my denim jacket for warmth. Since I’ll be on my feet all day I’m wearing flats… and truth be told, while I’m home- I will be wearing my Birks. They are just so comfy!

Have a great Saturday…

This shimmery tank gets 'dressed down' with the addition of the denim jacket.

Dec 3rd, 30 for 30 Day 3

Weekend wear! I’m planning on spending most of the day lounging around the house- so ideally I wouldn’t even get dressed- I’d hang out in jammies all day! Sounds heavenly.

But, my son has a basketball game, so that’s not going to work!

I decided to go with an outfit that feels as comfy as jammies- these cream cords are amazingly soft, stretchy and warm. Perfect!

On top I’ve put on this utlra comfy (loose fitting) striped shirt. To keep warm, and add a little color. I threw on my denim jacket.

As for my feet- I want to take a minute to answer a question a reader emailed! She also lives in Seattle and wondered if my feet get cold when I go without socks.

The truthful answer is that yes, if I’m outside my feet do get cold. But, when I know I’ll be mostly inside- I’m fine. Especially if the rest of me is warm!

So there you go… enjoy your weekend!

Happy Thanksgiving! I feel like I have so much to be thankful for, and rather than list them here- just know that I am extremely grateful for all my blessing and full of love for my family.

Today I’m showing an outfit that I took photos of a few weeks ago.

I’m showing how to take a cocktail dress and turn it in the a more casual and everyday outfit.

I bought this dress at Marshalls for an all white party I was going to last summer.

I haven’t worn it since but decided to try to tone it down a bit by pairing it with a denim jacket, scarf and boots. Now it’s a cute outfit for work or lunch with friends.

Looking at the photos- it would be better with boots that come up a little higher. Oh well…

Hope you have a wonderful day, enjoy your family and take a moment to be aware of all your blessings.

Nov 4th, Dressed for Success

Pardon the lame title! I’ve said this before, but dresses are such an easy outfit choice for a few reasons.

1.No need to match top and bottom- it’s done for you!

2. They are super comfy- usually no restricting waistband!

3. Perfect for work or even running errands.

Don’t be afraid to wear a dress during the day. With the right shoes and accessories, you will NOT look overdressed (unless you’re wearing sequins or a cocktail dress).

Today I am wearing a dress that I originally passed on- reason should be evident by this picture on the right. It’s shapeless form does nothing for my figure. But, it was on sale and I am a sucker for stripes!

Plus, when you add a belt and a jacket and a scarf- it becomes a great piece that actually works!

I decided to try a solid scarf as well as this colorful one. Which look do you like better?

Another shoe option would have been my rugged booties with some cute scrunched socks. Maybe next time!

Let me apologize for both the lame title and the shadowy photos. I’m clearly a novice!

Oct 12th, Work it Wednesday

This blue and white striped shirt is such an easy piece to throw on with anything!

This is almost the opposite of the outfit on the left.

Can’t believe it’s already Wednesday! Once again, I’m participating in Work it Wednesday, where I show 1 article of clothing worn 3 ways. Today I’ve selected one of my favorite tops- my striped shirt from J Crew. Which I wore here.

In the picture on the left I’m wearing it with my boyfriend jeans, my new fur booties and my utility vest from Old Navy. A very casual and easy outfit. I’ve heard you are never supposed to wear horizontal stripes- because it makes you look wide- but paired with the vest, there is now a vertical line to break up the look.

On the right, I’ve taken the same concept and flipped it- putting the utility on bottom (cargo pants, rolled up to add style) and adding a denim jacket (sleeves rolled up to add personality). Again, the jacket acts as a vertical line to break up the stripes. I still have on booties, but a different pair that look a little better with these  pants.  Otherwise it is basically the same outfit in reverse.

Below I’m showing a 3rd look- Here I’ve paired the striped top with my dark skinny jeans, ballet flats and a grey cable knit oversize sweater. This is a little dressier look (the dark denim, flats and pearls), but the oversize sweater adds a casual element to it. Perfect for running around town in!

A huge rain storm blew in while we were taking these pictures, so it’s very dark and hard to see. I apologize!

Pardon the umbrella- it started pouring during my photos!

To be honest, I’m not sure which look I like the best- probably the one with the jeans- which is what I actually wore! Which one is your favorite? Please comment and let me know! I love hearing from my readers, it truly makes my day!!

I really love the easy casual look of this outfit. So me!

Sept 3rd, Skirt and Denim Jacket

Casual skirt, tank and jacket make this a perfect weekend outfit.

The tank can stand alone thanks to the necklace.

Yeah! It’s the weekend! You know what that means, casual wear! Before I started this fashion diary I would have worn sweat pants and a t shirt on the weekend. But I’m forcing myself to get dressed every day- so here goes.

I said this last week, but I’ll say it again- I’d rather wear a skirt than shorts. It’s so much more comfortable- and you know me- all about comfort! One thing I really like about skirts is that if they have a cool color or pattern- they make the entire outfit interesting. So, today I am wearing a bright red, blue and white skirt. The pattern is so busy that I kept it simple on top with a plain white tank top and a denim jacket. If you don’t own a denim jacket, I strongly recommend it. I throw it on over just about everything. Not only does it add warmth, but it’s a great way to ‘dress down’ an outfit. To tie the entire look together I am wearing a necklace from Kohls that picks up the blue from the skirt- and my casual slip on tennis shoes.

The casual shoes are great for running errands.
