August 16, Wide Leg Jeans

You may be thinking to yourself, didn’t she just post this outfit last week? You’re close, I posted the before photo, but my after is new. That being said- it is basically the same outfit as last Friday, blue jeans and a black top.

The difference is that today I am wearing faded, wide leg cropped jeans instead of these dark skinny ones. I also changed out the tank. Instead of the casual cotton one, I’m wearing a faux silk v neck camisole from Uniqlo. If you’re a regular reader, you might recognize it. I also have it in white, and I wear it ALL THE TIME! It truly is one of my absolute favorites, and the sad news is that I tried to link it, but don’t think Uniqlo is still selling it. Darn.

To me, this camisole is perfect because it has a draped front, which hides my tummy (which you know is an issue for me). It also has a well cut neckline, the v is not so plunging that I’m showing too much skin. I also love that it is machine washable- making it easy and practical for moms! To add some interest to my outfit, I threw on cool leather bracelet and selected my new leopard slides. These shoes make the outfit interesting by adding a fun pattern to an otherwise simple look.

August 15, Ankle Socks

It honestly almost pains me to post this before photo because in my opinion it is SO BAD!! And please note, I wouldn’t actually wear this- but I have seen women that do, and I feel it is my duty to point out that ankle socks with tennis shoes are a major don’t!

It’s not just the ugly socks that are wrong in my before look, the denim shorts are also a problem. They don’t fit well- they are too tight, creating almost a baby romper look! They pinch at the thigh- which is not flattering at all. The after shorts allow a little room- making my legs look thinner. I also like the lighter denim for this casual outfit.

While this is adorable on a 2 year old, it’s not so cute on me! Photo creds: Ruffle Butts!

But the problems don’t even stop there. The oversize, crew neck is also bad. As mentioned, it is too big- you can see how the shoulders drop down my arms, and I had to tuck it in or else you’d wouldn’t have even been able to see the shorts. And to be frank, it’s just a plain, boring shirt. The Michael Stars shirt in the after photo is a better option. It’s still super casual, but also has some style to it with the Henley neckline. My Converse All Stars (with no socks) complete this easy outfit.

August 14, Red and Blue Striped Dress

Thank you for the kind words of encouragement yesterday! That was really unexpected- but also so helpful for when I was doubting myself! 😄 Knowing that people enjoy my posts, makes it worth it! 🤗 No before and after today, just a super cute red and blue striped dress for another 🌞 day! I love that this dress has a tied waist – giving it some shape and definition. I also think the neckline is sweet- it’s not too low (no cleavage here). Brown braided leather sandals complete the simple look. Dress is Old Navy, but really old!! Shoes are also old, from Target.

August 13, Navy and White

Sorry I haven’t posted for a few days. I went on vacation with my son over the weekend, and decided to take some time off from blogging. I did post a couple of times over on Instagram, so if you’re not following me- than hop on over to Insta and check me out @Everydaymomstyle_ . Boy that sounds weird to say! LOL!

Truthfully, this whole posting my outfit every day is weird. I’ll be the first to admit it. And often I’m embarrassed that I even do it- but it really does force me to put effort into my look each day. Otherwise I’d probably throw on leggings and a t shirt and call it good. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Comfort is key in my book!

Anyhow… I’m showing what I wore yesterday. A simple pair of white cut off shorts paired with a navy top with a cute embroidery pattern. This is not the most stylish outfit, but I do love navy and white together, and the embroidery detail makes this top interesting. Cute brown sandals finish off the look.

August 2, Shorts

It’s funny, so many people are posting fall looks- but here in Seattle, we are just getting into the swing of things with summer. It is only August after all. So today I am showing an outfit to demonstrate what a difference the right pair of shorts can make.

I know some women over 40 don’t really want to show their legs so they choose Bermuda shorts. I totally get it, the longer length covers more. However, regardless of my lumpy legs (and I swear they are lumpy- I’ve had cottage cheese on the back of my legs since college), I still like the way these shorter shorts look.

I talked about details yesterday, and these cute shorts also have some details that make them stand out. See photo below!

Love the trim along the pockets and hemline.

But they aren’t just cute, they also make my legs look longer and are a little more stylish than the dated Bermuda shorts. I’ve paired them with a cute faux silk flowered top (that is tucked in to give me a waistline). Now I have a cute summer outfit perfect for going to watch tennis, which is what I am doing today. It’s the Washington Open and I am looking forward to seeing some amazing tennis with players from all over the Northwest. And here is the view I will have! Gorgeous!

It doesn’t get much prettier than this! 🙂

July 29, Graphic T Shirt

I’ve really been ‘upping my game’ in the graphic t shirt department! (Insert laughing face here) Like many people, I own a ton of them- but never seem to wear them (except to sleep in), so today I decided to rock my Aspen T shirt.

The thing with wearing a graphic t shirt is that it can very easily look like you have put zero effort into your look. The outfit on the left is a good example of that. I just threw on a cotton skirt, a graphic t and black sandals and there isn’t much style to the outfit. Also, the proportions seem off. Both the t shirt and the skirt are too long, which can look frumpy.

To amp up the style, I decided a bright yellow skirt (that hits right above the knee) would be more fun. I then tied the graphic shirt in the front to give it some shape and sass. Finally, I changed my sandals to complete the casual look.

July 22, Camo Skirt

Normally I would advise against raiding your teenage daughter’s closet. There is nothing worse than a ‘forty something’ mom trying desperately to look young and hip… but today I am breaking that rule.

My 16 year old is away at camp in Canada this week, so I ‘borrowed’ her camo skirt to try out some outfit ideas. To avoid looking like a teenager, I am wearing the skirt low on my hips to add length. One less inch and I’d be in trouble! I also have kept things really simple by pairing the skirt with with a plain tank or graphic t shirt. My daughter would probably wear this with a tube or cropped top- but no thanks! Simple black slides or sandals complete the casual look.

I’d love to hear from you on which top you like best?!

July 20, Date Night

We have a rare weekend where both kids are gone- so my hubby and I are having a date night tonight.

One of my favorite Insta style gals is @Fashion_Jackson. She wears a ton of neutrals and always looks amazing! So, with her as my inspiration, I have chosen black jeans and a simple white top. However, as you can see- there is a huge difference between the outfit on the left and the right. On the right I have replaced the regular jeans with a distressed pair. This gives the outfit a little attitude and edge. I also replaced the orthopedic sandals with my pointy toed heels. I’ll be honest, these kill my feet and I will only wear them if I know I will be sitting most of the night. But don’t they look good?! Lastly, I swapped out the thin white tank for this cute faux silk draped tank. It’s a dressier, and dare I say, sexier look. I purposely kept the neckline clean- I have on a delicate necklace (hard to see in photos, sorry) but to add some interest, I am wearing a statement bracelet.

Top- Uniqlo

June 10, Blue and White

As you know, blue and white are one of my favorite color combos! It’s just so classic, so crisp and so easy! Today I chose my cropped white jeans and a simple blue button down blouse from Loft.

I love this blouse because it is rayon, which means it hangs really well. I hate things that cling to my tummy (my problem area), so a blouse like this is perfect because it looks nice- and is slimming at the same time! Looking at the photos, I like it better with the cropped jeans and the cuter sandals, and I suggest tucking it in and adding a fun leopard belt to really elevate the look.

It looks black in the photos, but it is actually a deep navy blue.

Jeans- Gap

Blouse- Loft, old, but here is a similar look, and another one here

Shoes- TJ Max (link is to a similar pair on Amazon)

Belt- Target

April 23, Grey and White

Even though it’s technically spring, it is still pretty chilly here in the PNW, so I need an outfit that looks springy, but is still warm and cozy! So today, I’m wearing white ripped jeans and a grey ribbed V neck sweater.

In the before photo, I have paired the sweater with dark jeans and Uggs. This could be a cute outfit in the winter, but today I’m thinking the white jeans are a fresher/ springier look. I’ve also done my half tuck to give my waist some definition, as well as swapped out the Uggs for cute grey booties. Pushing up the sleeves and adding some jewelry are small details that make a difference.

White Jeans- Mine are from H&M that I distressed myself here!

Sweater- Gap (old), but here is a similar one. And another!

Shoes- Paul Green, Nordstrom, mine are old- so here is something similar!
