Nov 29, Three for Thursday- Fur Vest

I want to be cute and comfy today (I think I say that every day!). So I decided to go with my cream stretchy cords. They are so soft and so warm, perfect for a cold winter day. I love pairing black and cream together- it’s an easy, classic combination.

My first look on the right I have on a large, baggy black top. It’s not doing much for me- too loose, too boring.

On the left I have replaced it with this slimmer, long sleeve V neck black t shirt- and then to add warmth (and some style) I added my faux fur vest. To finish it off, I added a long pendant necklace that ties all the colors together. For my shoes I chose my desert booties. I can wear socks with these- so my feet are nice and toasty and the subtle color doesn’t distract from the rest of the outfit.

Now, being that it is Three for Thursday, I’ve decided to show you some other ways I’ve worn this faux fur vest. It’s a fun piece to have in your closet- a great little way to dress up an otherwise plain or boring outfit. Plus, it makes me so warm!

Jan 18th, Another Snow Day!

Oh my gosh, this is getting ridiculous- we are on our 3rd snow day here in the Pacific Northwest- and it could get worse, they are predicting epic amounts of snowfall today!

As I mentioned yesterday, it would be easy to lounge around in sweats all day- and that does actually sound quite heavenly- a cup of tea, a fire and a good book… my dream day!

However, I will shower and get dressed. I’m sure my neighbors will be stopping by at some point (we tend to gather and do group meals on these snow days), so I want to look presentable.

I’ve chosen jeans and a turtleneck today. As you can see on the right, this isn’t the cutest outfit. To spice it up a bit, I switched my jeans for a cuter style (Diva style from Old Navy), rolled the cuffs a bit, and added cuter shoes. Then, on top- I added my faux fur- what better way to keep warm when the temperature is freezing? A cute necklace ties the whole look together.

For you local gals- stay safe, stay warm and PLEASE stay off the streets!

Casual, yet stylish!

Dec 13th, 30 for 30- Day 13

Last week when I wore this blouse, I had it tucked in to a pencil skirt and it looked very conservative and ladylike. (The look on the right is my BEFORE look, to see the after, click on pencil skirt).

Today is my ‘glam version’! I don’t know why, but whenever I pair anything with this faux fur, I always feel like a rock star!

This afternoon I have a work luncheon, and I thought it would be fun to dress a little festive. I paired this gorgeous silk top with my dark jeans (I know, jeans again at work? Really?! I figure they sort of look like dress pants if you don’t look close!). Then to top it all off, added the fur, necklace and heels.

Who knew faux fur could be so fun?!

Fur is appropriate for daytime and nighttime. For daytime, make sure the rest of the look is conservative.

Nov 14th, Learning Process

I started this blog/ style experiment knowing it was going to be a learning process- complete with growing pains. Yesterday was a perfect example of that- and I truly appreciate all the feedback!

One thing I’ve learned over the last few months is to ‘go with my gut’. I knew that outfit yesterday wasn’t that great- but I was in a rush and decided what the heck- maybe it’s cuter than I think? Clearly I was wrong!

Too see why, read the comments, there are some smart gals out there! Thanks!

Another thing I’m learning is that some trends work for some people and not for others, and when something works for me- stick to it! I happen to love skinny bottoms and neutral tops- that’s what works for me.

On the other hand though, I am trying to grow and take a few small risks- sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn’t!

So that brings me to today’s outfit- I decided to go with something I knew worked and something that I knew I loved- this dress! I’m taking that outfit and then adding a small risk.

Last time I wore this dress I paired it with a brown belt and brown boots.  Today I decided to go with black boots, a necklace and my faux fur vest. I think it makes for a cute change and I feel great. All in all, that’s what fashion and style are all about- feeling comfortable in what you’re wearing and owning your look!

Notice the change in boots? In the small picture above I have on high heel pointy boots- but since I'm going to be on my feet all day, I'll wear flats instead. Not as fashionable, but REAL!

Sept 22, Fur Real?

Fun outfit for a girl's night out!
This shirt just isn't doing it for me...

Pardon the lame title, but I struggle with coming up with a description of my outfit each day. Actually- this it my outfit for tonight.

I’m going to a friend’s jewelry party. I chose black skinny stretch pants as my base- then added a neutral shirt. On the right I’m showing my first option- which in my opinion doesn’t quite work. The long sleeves, high neckline and tight fit make this a little dated and frumpy.

On the left I have replaced this shirt with a much looser version. The neckline is a lot lower, there are cute button details and the sleeves also are an improvement. I added a cute necklace- and then to really play up the look added my faux fur vest. I love this vest- it just screams good times (maybe because I bought it for my 40th b day trip to Vegas).

Anyhow- I think this look is pretty cute… I’m wondering what a colored shirt would look like instead. Maybe a lovely plum. Stay tuned- I’ll try that in a few weeks.

The booties complete the girl's night out look!
