July 14, Fake Romper

Rompers are all the rage right now, and while I think they are super cute on teenagers, I personally don’t think someone over 40 should wear one. I was out last night at a wine tasting event and saw a woman who was well over 40 wearing a romper that was so short her butt cheeks were literally peeking out. Yes, she had a great butt- but GROSS! No one wants to see that.

But, it’s hot outside and I need an outfit that will keep me cool, so, today is my version of a romper for someone over 40. And actually, it’s not even a romper, it’s shorts and a top. But it sort of looks like a romper, right?!

To keep my outfit from looking like pj’s (as it does on the left) I have made a few slight changes. One, I pulled the shorts down a bit to rest on my hips instead of my natural waist. Then, instead of a plain cotton t shirt, I am wearing a silky halter neck top that is a bit dressier. To complete the look, I chose neutral sandals with a heel- that not only dress up the look, but they also make my legs look a lot longer than they actually are. Now I have an outfit that is appropriate for a summer backyard party where I have to say goodbye to my dear friends who are moving to North Carolina. I will miss you Livi. xoxo

Sept 10th, Dinner With Friends

When you get invited to a friend’s house for dinner do you struggle with what to wear? I do!

You don’t want to be too dressy, but you don’t want to look like a slob either.

It’s so hard to get it right!

I wore this outfit to a friend’s house last weekend- and I thought it was pretty cute- with the exception of the shoes.

Don’t get me wrong- I really love these shoes- but for the occasion they seemed a little off. Most of the gals were wearing strappy sandals- and having closed toe shoes on felt a little too wintery, but oh well- what can you do?

Just for fun, let’s compare outfits on the right and left- and why the outfit on the right, although similar, doesn’t quite work.

Start with the cardigan- I bought this at Nordstrom’s a few years ago- at the insistence of the sales gal- and I have regretted it ever since. It just seems so ‘old lady-ish’ to me. The collar hangs funny and seems droopy.

The jeans are too long (see how the gather at my ankles) and the light blue color isn’t right for evening. The plain black flats are boring.

As for the left- I switched out the cardigan for this fun blazer. It provides the same warmth as a cardigan, but appears so much more polished. The dark cropped jeans are also more trendy and stylish. Lastly, my shoes- I opted for these cute snakeskin pointy toed heels. Lke I said before- I LOVE these shoes, but am not sure they were the best choice for a summer evening event. I would definitely wear this to work though!

This pale pink shell looks nice under the white blazer.

Shell and jeans- J Crew, Blazer- Nordstrom, Shoes: DSW, necklace- gift from my sisters

Feb 5th, Date Night

Rather than show you what I’m  wearing for the Super Bowl (which is jeans and a comfy top- with plenty of room to hide my food baby), I’ve decided to show another date night outfit.

I want to show that you can look classy and sexy at the same time.

I actually wore this outfit a few years ago at my high school reunion (20 years, gasp!)- and liked it so much, I thought I’d show it today.

This top is a perfect date night top. I love the gold shimmery color and love the  blousy style- perfect for anyone who wants to hide their tummy!

Paired with these dark jeans and heels- it is totally appropriate for any age!

Just remember, you don’t have to show a ton of skin- leave something to the imagination!

It's ok to show a little skin- but don't do a skimpy top AND skimpy bottom.

Jeans: Nordstrom, Shoes: Nordstrom, Top: H&M, Necklace: Gift (my sisters made it for me!)

Sept 12, Monday Again?!

Cropped khaki's keep this casual.

Can’t believe it’s already Monday again. I’m off to work today so I need to dress somewhat ‘professional’.  I am wearing cropped khaki pants, and a cute swingy blue top (which is great for those days when my belly is bigger than it should be- maybe a little too much wine over the weekend!), and a jacket to throw on for when I’m in air conditioning. To complete my look I have another one of my new necklaces from Forever 21 and snakeskin heels. I read yesterday that pointy toes are back in style- so although I think they are very uncomfortable- I will wear them today since I know most of my day will be sitting at my desk.

Now off to work…

I love the neckline of this top- the small details make such a difference.

Love this necklace from Forever 21

I love snakeskin- and these are great for work because of the low heel.
