Oct 16, Denim Dress

I really love wearing dresses, especially in the summer. They are such an easy outfit! But in the fall/ winter I struggle a bit because I worry about getting cold. So today I am showing a denim dress that I have styled to not only look cute, but to also keep me warm!

My first step was my shoes. These tall boots can be worn with knee socks, which definitely add major warmth. If it’s really chilly, some neutral tights will also work. Next I added this long cardigan. I’ve shown this cardigan a lot as a ‘before’ look- because it can tend to look like a bathrobe, but paired with this dress, I think it looks cozy. My infinity scarf completes the outfit- it adds color, warmth and style. All in all, a cute fall look perfect for school.

Jan 24, Airplane Attire

I’m heading out of town today, so my outfit needs to be airplane appropriate- meaning comfy, warm and layers!

So what’s wrong with jeans, a white tank and a cute cardigan? Nothing really- except in my ‘before’ look the cardigan is too small, the plain white shirt is a little boring and my shoes look old and tired. All of these pieces can be incorporated into a cute outfit- but not for today!

Instead, I’ve chosen these cute ripped jeans. These jeans have so much stretch to them they are like wearing leggings- I love that. I’ve also chosen a cute blue t shirt instead of the plain white tank. Normally I wouldn’t have tried blue shirt with blue jeans, but I’ve read that wearing the same color top to bottom is slimming. So here goes! The cute thing about this t shirt is the hemline. It’s gathered in a little knot- so it’s basically doing the half tuck thing for me. So easy!

Now for the layers- I absolutely love this giant cozy sweater from Free People. My 15 year old daughter loves it as well- and steals it from me all the time. It’s so warm and cozy, and a great layering piece. Plus it has huge pockets to slip my phone or ID in while going through security.  Since it’s grey- it goes with everything! To top off the look, I threw on this cute blue/ grey/ pink infinity scarf. Infinity scarves are perfect for those of us who can’t quite tie a scarf perfectly (there seems to be an art to that effortless look of a loosely tied scarf). Plus, it’s a is a great way to keep warm.

As for my shoes- I’ll be doing a lot of walking through the airport, so a cute comfy slip on is a must have. These ones are amazing. They are Dr. Scholl’s brand, and so comfy. I found them at Marshalls.

Jan 4th, Big Brown Scarf

DSCN6362 DSCN6366My friend MaryAnn gave me this scarf last year on my birthday- and I wear it often, yet never seem to photograph me in it- so today here it is.

As per usual, I chose another very simple- very neutral outfit- just skinny jeans and a plain long tunic and brown boots.

Alone this is just too blah- but by adding this cool infinity scarf (complete with fringe) and a fun orange bracelet (also a b-day gift from a dear friend) I have given the outfit some texture and interest. So easy!

Nov 12th, Cream Cords

Sorry for the late post- I was having some technical difficulties this morning!

And, truth be told- I played in a tennis match this afternoon (I lost), so I am just now getting dressed for the day.

I’m wearing my cream cords and a gray sweater. To add a little interest- and to tie the pants and sweater together, I added this cute scarf. It is not an infinity scarf- but I safety pinned the ends together to make it into one. I then looped the whole thing around my head 3 times. So easy!

Hope you’re having a great Monday!

I love the asymmetrical hemline of this sweater- it is so much more interesting than a straight hemline!

June 9th, Baby Got Back

Good morning! It’s another fairly ‘unfashionable’ outfit from me today, but as I’ve said many, many times- this is a real blog- and a real reflection of what I am wearing!

Since it’s Saturday- and the first Saturday in a long time that we have no plans, I am going to spend the day lounging around my house, tackling projects, reading my book, playing with the kids and maybe taking the dog for a walk.

That being said- (as usual)- comfort is key!

Today I opted for my black stretch pants and a tunic. To add a little color and interest, I threw on this gorgeous raspberry scarf. As with other scarves, I safety pinned the ends together (to make an infinity scarf) and then looped it around my head 2 times. Simple as that!

Yes, I know it is not cutting edge fashion, but its the perfect outfit for a lazy Saturday.

As for Baby Got Back- seriously?!

Unless you are under the age of 20 (or exercising)- please don’t wear skin tight pants with a short shirt. No matter how skinny you are- no one wants to see your backside- as demonstrated below!

Look out Kim Kardashian!

May 30th, Me and My Maxi

Hello friends! After an incredible weekend in Northern CA, I am now home- and am utterly exhausted! Can I just tell you how adorable Carmel is? If you haven’t been- GO!

A special thanks to my dear friend Heidi for hosting us all weekend. She is an awesome travel guide and we had a blast. Thank you!

As for today’s outfit- I’m wearing my ever favorite maxi dress again. It’s from the Gap- and it’s a gorgeous shade of blue (hard to tell in photos).

This is actually what I wore on the plane yesterday.  In order to be comfy and warm- I threw a cardigan and a scarf over the top.  I stuck to a palette of blues and grays, which I think looks cool and the layers give the look some dimension.

I knotted the scarf- to make a faux infinity scarf- and then looped it around my head three times. It’s such an easy and effortless outfit- and perfect for traveling!

Sept 16th, Fashion Friday, How to Build an Outfit

Pencil skirt, top, scarf and sweater make this outfit complete.

Not bad, but a little boring, right?

I’m showing an outfit I wore a year ago on the right- I thought it was sort of cute
at the time- but now looking back I see it’s a little blah! On the left I am showing that by just adding a few simple touches, you can really change a look or add instant style to it.

I’m wearing a classic pencil skirt with a ruffled top. The ruffles add some interest to the look, but to really bring it up a notch- I’ve added a cute infinity scarf. An infinity scarf is one that is actually a huge loop- so you don’t have to worry about how to tie it. You just loop it over your head a few times, and voila, it looks great. I’ve also layered an off white cardigan that has a ruffle around the neckline and then finally, I have on my black heels with open toes.

A polished and professional outfit.
