Sept 26, Leaving on a Jet Plane

Hello Friends! A quick post today on my OOTD and a message that I won’t be posting for a few days as I am heading out of town to go visit my son at college for parents weekend! Woot hoot!

I’ve chosen to wear a grey maxi dress on the plane today. As many of you know, whenever I fly I always bring a scarf. It not only keeps me warm, but also comes in handy on my trip as a quick swim suit cover up or as a shawl. One note, when choosing a scarf, I always like a big bulky one- it looks so much better than a thin or skinny one.

Gotta run… I’ll be back next week! 🙂

April 19, T Shirt and Jeans

Sometimes the best outfits are the ones you literally throw on and walk out the door. The effortless, easy and casual look of a t shirt and jeans will never go out of style.

When wearing a simple t shirt- look for fun details to help it stand out. In this case, this shirt has this interesting twisted hemline. It adds a cool touch to and otherwise very plain shirt. I also added long necklace to break up the solid color- and then swapped out my tennis shoes for my cute pointy toed leopard flats. I went from a blah outfit, to a fun and stylish one. So easy!

It will be chilly this morning, so I’ll start the day with this cute blue jacket over my t shirt. Wearing the same color from top to bottom is a good trick to look slimmer.

April 7th, Weekend Casual

My friend Stacey and I were talking the other day and she mentioned how hard it must be to dress cute everyday.

And she’s right, not only is it hard, but it’s unrealistic.

Some days I’m planning on working in the garage, or the yard, or whatever- and I don’t get dressed up.

Today is one of those days.

I’m planning on working around the house most of the day- and I want to be extremely comfortable- so I’ve opted for work out pants, a top and a jacket.

On the right you can see what the old me might have worn. This enormous over size sweatshirt does nothing for my figure- and the jeans and tennis shoes- surely we don’t have to go there again!

On the left I’m wearing my Lululemon grey yoga pants, a white tank, then a pink shirt over the tank and finally- a zip up sweatshirt to keep me warm. (Did I mention it’s 45 degrees here? ARGH!)

The fitted yoga pants and fitted sweatshirt are a much more pulled together look. The soft pink shirt adds some color to the outfit.

I know it’s not very fashionable, and I know no one will be inspired by this casual look- but I wanted to show what I really am wearing today!

Have a great day!

March 15th, Sister’s Style

My sisters and I all have our unique style- it’s very similar- but there are a few distinct differences.

My older sister, Erin, has a larger top than bottom, so her goal is to hide her top and flaunt her thin legs.

Her favorite look is skinny bottoms, large oversize tops or coats and flats.

Today she is wearing jeans, a sweater with a cute cable collar and then this wonderful coat.

The pattern is eye catching, the length of the coat is perfect to hide her butt and her legs look nice and thin. She’s finished her look with her favorite boots from Frye.

Kara is what I would call a preppy/ traditionalist. Her look is very simple and very classic. Most of her wardrobe is from J Crew.

You’ll never catch her looking like she’s trying too hard. Her look is current, but not uber trendy and definitely not outside her comfort zone.

Today she is wearing skinny jeans. She’s paired them with this blue and grey striped top with these cool dolman sleeves. It’s an easy outfit, which translates to effortless style.

Her shoes take the whole look up a notch, they are grey suede wedge heels. Gorgeous!

My style is similar to Kara’s, but I mix brands up a bit more. I like combining pieces from Target, Khol’s, J Crew and Nordstrom to create a more affordable outfit. I also might be a bit more of a risk taker- just a little edgier by adding things like my faux fur vest, or maybe a huge necklace or leopard flats… something that is unexpected.

Truth be told, both of my sisters are huge fashion influences on me. They always look amazing and they are one of the reasons I even started this blog. I would go visit them and always feel like my style was so lame compared. They inspired me to re-think my closet and put more effort into my look. Thanks guys! I love you!

So, which sister is most like you? Erin, Kara or me?

Love this orange top with the dolman sleeves.

Love this pattern on her coat.

I love the bright color- makes me think of spring… if only!

March 7th- Jeans at Work!

Even though I’m working today- I’ve chosen to wear jeans. Depending on the atmosphere of your office, sometimes jeans can be appropriate.

For my job (marketing), these jeans work since they look like dress pants. The fit is not too tight, the wash is very dark and I can wear them with heels (which dresses them up a bit).

On the right I’m showing them paired with this matronly buttoned up cardigan (don’t get me wrong, I’ve actually worn this with other outfits and liked it- but here it just is too plain). Plus, I have on these boring black square toed boots. Blah!

On the left I have replaced the boots with my pointy toed snakeskin heels. I am not planning on doing much walking today, and most of my morning will be spent sitting indoors, so I’ve decided to go with heels.

For my top I have on this loose white tank and this pretty, gold shimmery jacket that I love! I bought this at JC Penny, and I think it is really cool. I always love dressing in 3’s and so paired with the tank and the necklace, I think it completes the look.

It’s Wednesday, so I’ve hooked up with The Pleated Poppy! Also, don’t forget to vote by clicking on the link above right! (every vote counts! I’m 2 votes away from the #8 spot!) Thanks!

The jacket gives the outfit a more professional look- perfect for work! Looking at the photos, I wish my necklace hung down a little lower. I'm going to switch this one out for a longer pendant.

Nov 3rd, Blue Bayou

Ok seriously- now I am really aging myself. Does anyone even remember the song by Linda Ronstadt, Blue Bayou? Probably not…

Good- it has nothing to do with this post except that I am wearing blue from head to toe.

I read somewhere that dressing in all one color is a great slimming technique- but since I felt a little plain I decided to add this cute blazer, which I also wore here.

On the right you see my original look- shirt is untucked, wrinkled and looks messy! The Uggs don’t help either!

On the left I have tucked in the shirt, added a belt and necklace and switched the Uggs for some cute boots. Then, to really polish the whole look off, I threw on this cute jacket. It is cotton and so very comfy! Almost like a fancy sweatshirt! Oh yeah…

If you don’t want to wear the blazer, I think the all blue is ok with the belt and boots… see below (I actually got inspired for this outfit by a Kindle ad I saw on TV! Have you seen it?)

I think the all blue works because of the brown accents.

I love the jacket because it makes my outfit work appropriate!

Sept 12, Monday Again?!

Cropped khaki's keep this casual.

Can’t believe it’s already Monday again. I’m off to work today so I need to dress somewhat ‘professional’.  I am wearing cropped khaki pants, and a cute swingy blue top (which is great for those days when my belly is bigger than it should be- maybe a little too much wine over the weekend!), and a jacket to throw on for when I’m in air conditioning. To complete my look I have another one of my new necklaces from Forever 21 and snakeskin heels. I read yesterday that pointy toes are back in style- so although I think they are very uncomfortable- I will wear them today since I know most of my day will be sitting at my desk.

Now off to work…

I love the neckline of this top- the small details make such a difference.

Love this necklace from Forever 21

I love snakeskin- and these are great for work because of the low heel.
