Oct 17, Athleisure Wear

My little sister once asked to do to a post on how to transition a tennis outfit into a running errands outfit, so that is what today’s post is all about. I have a tennis match today, but will be running a couple errands before the match, so I wanted an outfit that worked for that.

I started with my cropped Lululemon leggings and black Adidas tennis shoes, I then added this cute dolman sleeve top from Target. I think the color is gorgeous, it’s kind of a purple grey- perfect for fall. I like this top because it’s casual- but can easily be dressed up. To add even even more warmth, and a little style I then added this cute black vest. When I get to my match I can take off the vest and top to reveal my tank underneath, then I just need to add my tennis skirt. Easy!

Wish me luck on my match! πŸ™‚

Oct 4, Rain boots

This outfit started with my rain boots and then worked it’s way up. I often decide my outfits this way- choosing my shoes first, then building the outfit from that. I take into account several factors; including the occasion, the weather and how long I am going to be on my feet.

I’m teaching school today, so will be on my feet a lot, so need comfy shoes. Since it’s supposed to rain all day, these Hunter rain boots are perfect. They are comfy and warm, and much cuter than the clunky and awkward boots on the left.

As for my leggings, I’m not usually a fan of wearing yoga pants to work, they seem too casual, so I have dressed these up with a long blouse and cardigan. The black cardigan is fine, but isn’t the burgundy one on the right better? I love the pop of color, and the longer length is sure to cover my entire behind. The blouse also covers everything (front and back!), and has such a cute but subtle pattern.

The blouse (old) and sweater (new) are from Target, boots are Hunter (Nordstrom) and my leggings are Athleta. I recommend buying high quality leggings! Cheap, thin ones look terrible. They stretch and sag easily, and often you can see right through them. The more expensive ones hold their shape and last for years.

August 18, #Keepingitreal

I almost didn’t post my outfit today- simply because it’s such a casual look that most of us moms already wear… but I decided that:

1. I want to keep it real here on Everyday Mom Style, and this is what I’m really wearing today as I get all my chores done around the house.

2. Plus, I think you can put a tiny bit of style into even the most casual look. So here goes…

Switching to cropped leggings instead of full length ones is more on trend. I also altered the t shirt by rolling the sleeves and tucking a bit into my leggings. This takes away the straight line across my hips and looks a little more stylish. Now, that being said- looking at the photo I realize I have now emphasized my curvy hips- which isn’t the most flattering look! So if I were to go run to the grocery store, I’d tie a denim jacket around my waist to hide the lumps. But, since I’m home I’ll just keep it as it is. No one judges me here! πŸ™‚ Have a great Sunday!

May 14, Camo Leggings

Good morning ladies! I am running late again today (I am more tired than normal and I’m having a hard time getting up. Anyone else experiencing this?) Anyhow, I’m working around the house and running errands this morning so I am extra casual in my camo leggings, cute graphic t shirt with a jacket tied around my waist.

In my before photo I have paired the leggings with a plain white sweater. To me, it just seems odd. They don’t go together. The sweater is preppy and sort of dressy, and the leggings are super casual. Why not try a graphic t shirt instead? Since the shirt is short and doesn’t cover my butt, I’ve tied this jacket around my waist. It gives me coverage, and adds a little warmth if I need it. The flip flops are also a little cuter than the old worn out running shoes.

No time for links this morning- plus my t shirt and jacket are super old. Leggings are from Nordstrom Rack, flip flops were from vacation in Hawaii a few years ago. I bought them in the gift shop! Have a great day!

April 30, Leggings

I’m heading out of town tomorrow and will be spending today getting ready for my trip, so I am super casual in my leggings and cotton tank top.

In my before photo I have on my full length Athleta leggings. I love these for warmth, and in the winter they are cute paired with boots, but for spring time I like the cropped version better. These are from Lululemon. When it comes to leggings, I think it is worth the money to splurge on either Lulu or Athleta ones. The fabric is thick enough to cover any lumps or bumps, and it washes and wears well for years.

I also replaced the tight (and ugly) workout top on the left with this cute KC, MO tank. It fits better (not as snug in the tummy). You may have noticed that I don’t often wear tops with any writing on them, but I am so proud to be from Kansas City that I wear this tank with pride (plus it’s cute!)! Next I threw on my long grey open cardigan, besides keeping me warm, it does a nice job of covering my butt and hips- creating a slimmer look. To complete the outfit I am wearing my black tennis shoes.

April 14, Athleisure

I’m finally home from my weeklong college tour trip. What a fun week with my daughter, but boy, I’m exhausted! Today I will be doing laundry, cleaning the house and stocking up on groceries… and probably sleeping a lot!Β

I could wear the all black outfit on the left, but wouldn’t it be more fun to wear the cute leggings on the right? Patterned leggings are a stylish way to wear athleisurewear- and the cropped style is a little more on trend than the long ones on the left.Β Β Notice the details on my jacket. Do you see how the vertical stitching defines my shape? It’s subtle, but those tiny details do make a difference. And the black tennis shoes look better than the pink and grey ones.Β

March 16, Weekend Casual

Saturdays in my house are a day for catching up on a ton of housework.  I do laundry, clean the bathrooms, change the sheets and mop my kitchen floor. Please don’t be jealous of my glamorous life! To do all of these chores, I like to be super comfy and casual- so I opt for leggings and a cute workout top.

As you can see- in the photo on the left I have on long leggings and a black fleece- nothing really wrong with this look, but isn’t the one on the right a little more interesting? These ΒΎ length leggings are a little more on trend, and the bright, long sleeve work out top adds some nice color to my outfit.

A great detail about this top is the cinched sides. It provides a little ruching, which is great for hiding tummys. The bad thing is it’s a little short, so if I need to run an errand, I will tie a sweatshirt around my waist in order to hide my butt. Easy!

Leggings are from Lululemon.

Enjoy your Saturday. Hopefully you have better plans that I do!

March 12, Hunter Boots

Living in Seattle, it’s essential that I have some good rain boots! So when Hunter boots first became popular I HAD to have a pair. Before that, I was wearing rain boots from Fred Meyer- and they looked like this photo from when I started blogging back in 2012! A lot has changed since then, but I still love my Hunter Boots!

In my before photo, I am wearing a golf shirt with black leggings and my Hunter Boots. I think a collared shirt looks odd with leggings. Something just seems off with this. I also think the length is bad, it’s too short.

So I kept to the black and white theme (I really love that color combo, obviously) but ditched the weird golf shirt for this cute striped shirt. I like the way this shirt gathers around the tummy area- hiding my food baby. Then, to cover my behind, and add a little color, I threw on this fabulous pink lightweight cardigan from Nordstrom. You may recognize this sweater from this outfit. Ok, now I’m ready for you rain!

When wearing leggings (if you’re over 40), please cover your butt. Unless you are super fit- then you go girl! Me, I like mine covered.

Shirt- OC Style (my favorite local in home boutique! but she ships anywhere!!) Check her out on Instagram. @shopocstyle

Feb 23, Weekend Casual

It’s finally the weekend, and I have a lot to do around the house today, so I want to be comfy and casual. I’ve chosen leggings and a top, but in my before look my plain black leggings and black top aren’t very interesting. There’s nothing really wrong with the look, it’s just a little boring. To add interest and color, instead I will wear these patterned leggings from North Face.

I’ve then replaced the fleece with this great long sleeved work out top I found at Marshalls. It has detail at the neckline (see below). I like the length of this top because it covers my butt, which is important when wearing leggings!

To add warmth and color I threw on this vest I just bought at Loft outlet. I love the color (I seem to be into purple these days!), and I like that it’s not bulky at all, so it doesn’t make me look top heavy. To complete the outfit, I’m wearing my black Adidas. I swear, these are one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. I got them at Nordstrom Rack, and I wear them all the time! I just think they better than my old tennis shoes, and they are so comfy!

Have a great day everyone!

Feb 4, Snow Day

Well, I guess it was finally our turn for the cold bitter winter weather to hit. We got a snow storm last night in the good old Pacific Northwest, which means everything will be shut down today, including school! Can you say ‘Snow Day’?!

For this cold, snowy day I want an outfit that is comfy, cozy and casual. The 3 C’s if you will.

So I’ve chosen my black leggings AGAIN! I swear, if you don’t own a good pair of leggings you need to go get some asap. These should be a staple in everyone’s closet- no matter what size you are. Think of leggings as you do jeans- a perfect bottom for any outfit. They are not just for going to the gym.

Buy expensive ones, ones that are thick and absolutely NOTHING shows through. When you try them on, sit down and see what happens, does the fabric stretch so much that you can sort of see skin? If so, do not buy them. You also want some with some spandex in them to hold you in and hide lumps. Cheap, thin ones will not do the trick. I love my Athleta ones- as seen below.

In my ‘before’ look, my denim shirt is too short to wear with leggings. I know I say this a lot- but for us more mature women, we need to wear longer tops that cover more.

I have replaced the chambray shirt in the before picture with a longer version. I like how it is peeking out under this big chunky black knit sweater. I just got this shirt at American Eagle. It is super soft, a great color- and I love the length. Β To add a little interest, I threw on a long necklace. It breaks up all the black a little bit.

The Hunter Boots are perfect for walking through wet snow or rain. Plus, they are cuter than the Uggs. Don’t get me wrong though- I do love those Uggs… they just aren’t as cute. But boy are they warm…
