Oct 17, Athleisure Wear

My little sister once asked to do to a post on how to transition a tennis outfit into a running errands outfit, so that is what today’s post is all about. I have a tennis match today, but will be running a couple errands before the match, so I wanted an outfit that worked for that.

I started with my cropped Lululemon leggings and black Adidas tennis shoes, I then added this cute dolman sleeve top from Target. I think the color is gorgeous, it’s kind of a purple grey- perfect for fall. I like this top because it’s casual- but can easily be dressed up. To add even even more warmth, and a little style I then added this cute black vest. When I get to my match I can take off the vest and top to reveal my tank underneath, then I just need to add my tennis skirt. Easy!

Wish me luck on my match! 🙂

August 18, #Keepingitreal

I almost didn’t post my outfit today- simply because it’s such a casual look that most of us moms already wear… but I decided that:

1. I want to keep it real here on Everyday Mom Style, and this is what I’m really wearing today as I get all my chores done around the house.

2. Plus, I think you can put a tiny bit of style into even the most casual look. So here goes…

Switching to cropped leggings instead of full length ones is more on trend. I also altered the t shirt by rolling the sleeves and tucking a bit into my leggings. This takes away the straight line across my hips and looks a little more stylish. Now, that being said- looking at the photo I realize I have now emphasized my curvy hips- which isn’t the most flattering look! So if I were to go run to the grocery store, I’d tie a denim jacket around my waist to hide the lumps. But, since I’m home I’ll just keep it as it is. No one judges me here! 🙂 Have a great Sunday!

May 16, Tennis Anyone?

For those of you who know me well, you know that I have a passion for tennis! I talk about it all the time- and if I’m lucky, I get to play 3-4 times a week. I’ve had several friends ask me to share an OOTD of me in my tennis outfit, so here you go!

The outfit on the left is actually a golf skirt, and for golf, it is sort of cute- but for tennis it is too long. Yes, the skirt on the right is super short- and yes, I have cottage cheese on the back of my legs, but honestly, it doesn’t matter! In tennis you will see women of all shapes and sizes and no one cares! And, if you are really worried, you can always wear leggings under your skirt. Or, some brands (like Lululemon) carry a long version, it’s still made for tennis, but has an extra inch or two for more coverage.

As for the top, a cute long sleeve light weight pullover is better than a bulky, unflattering fleece. I will wear this during the warm up, then take it off. Afterwards, I have a meeting and some errands to run, so I will throw it back on to give me some coverage.

This cute skirt is from Lululemon (it’s old), but I love the colors. It goes well with blue, black, white and grey- so it’s super versatile. However, if your budget really only allows to buy one tennis skirt- I would say go with black. You can pair any colored top with it- and wear it all year round.

Now for my personal thoughts on having a passion. I think it is so important for everyone to have a little hobby that is just for you. As moms we spend so much time giving to everyone else, it’s important to have something that is just yours! It can be anything you are interested in. I have a friend who just took up welding! Other friends garden, cook, take French lessons… you name it. It’s important to find something in your life that brings you joy and you look forward to. What is your passion? Feel free to share in the comments below!

March 16, Weekend Casual

Saturdays in my house are a day for catching up on a ton of housework.  I do laundry, clean the bathrooms, change the sheets and mop my kitchen floor. Please don’t be jealous of my glamorous life! To do all of these chores, I like to be super comfy and casual- so I opt for leggings and a cute workout top.

As you can see- in the photo on the left I have on long leggings and a black fleece- nothing really wrong with this look, but isn’t the one on the right a little more interesting? These ¾ length leggings are a little more on trend, and the bright, long sleeve work out top adds some nice color to my outfit.

A great detail about this top is the cinched sides. It provides a little ruching, which is great for hiding tummys. The bad thing is it’s a little short, so if I need to run an errand, I will tie a sweatshirt around my waist in order to hide my butt. Easy!

Leggings are from Lululemon.

Enjoy your Saturday. Hopefully you have better plans that I do!

Feb 10, Athleisure Wear

Athleisure is the term for clothes made for working out, but worn in other ways- such as going to work, running errands, or in my case- lounging around the house all day.

In my before photo I am wearing patterned leggings and a red sweatshirt. The sweatshirt has a giant pocket right in the middle which adds bulk to my tummy, which I definitely do not want! Instead I’ll wear this purple Lululemon top that is more slimming.

This Lulu top is nice & long and covers me up, plus it has the cutest ruffle detail on the sleeves- see below:

In case I decide to brave the snow and run some errands, I’ll throw on this cute quilted Moto jacket. It’s a little more fun than just a plain black North Face, which is what I normally wear.

Leggings- Old Navy

Top- Lululemon

Jacket- Michael Kors

Oct 5th, A Day Off

I apologize for the delayed post today! My kids have the day off from school, so I have taken the day off as well.

It’s been lovely! I slept in until 8:30, took my dog for a long walk, and just went and played tennis with my kids.

Even though it’s really not that stylish or fashionable, I decided to show my work-out outfit- since realistically many, MANY, moms spend their days dressed in this type of clothing (don’t get me wrong, on my days off I am in my yoga pants too!)

The thing with exercise clothes is that it is so easy to look really outdated and frumpy- and it’s so easy to look cute. It’s your choice!

Take the outfit on the right- these baggy black pants- with the white stripes down the sides- do nothing for me. They look like something my mom might have worn in the 70’s. The black fleece is also shapeless. While sometimes I like dressing on all one color- in this case, it’s boring. To make matters even worse, my bright white tennis shoes are also a little out of style.

On the left is my new look- I’ve switched out the dated track pants for fitted Lululemon workout pants. I swear by these- yes, they are expensive, but it is worth it. They are so thick that they hide my cottage cheese- and they are so comfortable!  For my top, I have also selected Lululemon- this gray and white striped top is cute- and the bright purple jacket adds some style. My colored tennis shoes (with the bright orange laces) finish the look off.

I bought this jacket at Nordstroms (Zella), off the sale rack! I love the pattern (it’s very subtle) and the bright color really pops!

I can remove the jacket and still look cute!

April 7th, Weekend Casual

My friend Stacey and I were talking the other day and she mentioned how hard it must be to dress cute everyday.

And she’s right, not only is it hard, but it’s unrealistic.

Some days I’m planning on working in the garage, or the yard, or whatever- and I don’t get dressed up.

Today is one of those days.

I’m planning on working around the house most of the day- and I want to be extremely comfortable- so I’ve opted for work out pants, a top and a jacket.

On the right you can see what the old me might have worn. This enormous over size sweatshirt does nothing for my figure- and the jeans and tennis shoes- surely we don’t have to go there again!

On the left I’m wearing my Lululemon grey yoga pants, a white tank, then a pink shirt over the tank and finally- a zip up sweatshirt to keep me warm. (Did I mention it’s 45 degrees here? ARGH!)

The fitted yoga pants and fitted sweatshirt are a much more pulled together look. The soft pink shirt adds some color to the outfit.

I know it’s not very fashionable, and I know no one will be inspired by this casual look- but I wanted to show what I really am wearing today!

Have a great day!

March 10, Weekend/ Workout Clothes

I’ve been asked by several readers to show workout clothes, so today I decided that’s what I would do.

Some days after my workout I might not have time to change before running errands, so I at least want to look sort of cute, right?

On the right is my example of a not so cute look. The pants with the white stripes down the side are too loose, they’re dated and not flattering at all.  Also worth noting is how much shorter my legs look in these pants compared to the picture on the left.

The plain black fleece is also boring and the bright white tennis shoes are U-G-L-Y!

On the left is my new look.

I’m wearing Lululemon pants. If you don’t own any of these- seriously consider buying some. They are expensive- but so worth it.  I love the way they fit.

There is something very special about the fabric, it seems to suck me in where I need to be sucked- and thick enough to hide the cottage cheese underneath (and I do have cottage cheese).

I’ve then layered a pink fitted pullover over my white work out tank- and for extra warmth added a black quilted vest on top. To add even more interest, I have on my pink tennis shoes (much cuter than the plain white ones on the right- these look like nurse shoes!).

This would also be a cute side-line outfit for all you soccer (or lacrosse) moms!

Enjoy your Saturday! Go Wolves!

Nov 1st, True Confessions

This is a hard post because my goal in this style project is to wear outfits that are cute and inspired and I know no one will want to copy this outfit, but the truth is- I’m so exhausted by Halloween and all it’s festivities that I honestly don’t feel like get dressed today.

I considered putting on something cute, taking my picture and then changing into this. But, I’m committed to being real and honest in this blog.  So, there you have it- this is me- in my casual, post halloween hangover outfit.

The whole look is based on the fact that my feet hurt and I want to wear my tennis shoes and I refuse to wear them with anything but work out clothes.

My pants are from Lulu, which I LOVE because of the way they fit, and my jacket is Adidas. I like the way it has a little built in gather to emphasize my waist. Because I like showing comparisons, the look on the right is basically the same outfit- workout pants and jacket (or in this case fleece), but these loose and baggy pants are awful and the black fleece also does nothing for my figure.

So, if you’re feeling exhausted from too much Halloween and you just want to be ultra comfy and casual today- think about how even in casual work out clothes you can be sort of cute… right?

Wear a thong or go without undies when wearing tight pants like these. No one wants to see granny panty outline!

August 31st, Do you Lulu?

Not so cute!

Lululemon pullover, skirt and workout top

Let’s face it, some days moms just want (and need) to run around town in casual,
comfortable wear. We go to the gym, the grocery store, the dry cleaner, Target, the bank… and we want to be comfortable! So, today’s post is ‘Workout Wednesday’. Since today is my tennis day anyway- (and per my cute tennis friend Mary’s suggestion) I am showing workout clothes today.

Now, there are 2 types of workout clothes. Those that are functional, yet not fashionable and those that are both. See the picture on the left. This is just not that cute. The boring baggy black workout pants look a little too Sue Sylvester for me. The black fleece is very Seattle, but not so exciting.

Introducing Lululemon– on the right. This line of exercise clothing is fabulous! They are extremely comfortable and flattering clothes.

There are a few things you need to know about Lulu before you go:

1. It is expensive (sorry!)

2. Sizes are weird. In Lulu, I am a 6. (In regular clothes I’m a 4 or sometimes a 2)

3. They have a huge variety of styles of tops for all body types. Ask for help in the store or go online.

4. Their clothes can be worn for anything- you don’t have to be playing tennis to wear a skirt. You can run in it, walk the dog in it, do the elliptical in it, grocery shop in it!  It’s fun and cute!

Here are some more pics of my outfit:

Notice the cute ruffle detail on the sleeve

I love that Lulu offers multiple pieces in the same color- for easy layering. Here is without the jacket. But boy do my boobs look small! A different style top might be more flattering. I'll show a different one next week! Stay tuned!

Love the pleating on the skirt!
