Feb 13, I’m Outta Here!

I think I’ve mentioned that we have been snowed in for days, and I can’t take it anymore- so I am getting out of town! I’m heading down to Palm Desert to see my folks for a few days, and hopefully get some much needed warmth and sunshine.

The before outfit is just a little boring, so to add some interest, I’ll tuck in my shirt, put on a belt and add cute booties. Since I’ll be on an airplane, (and I’m always cold on planes) I’ll need to add a little warmth by throwing on my Mer-sea shawl. This was a gift from my sister- and let me tell you, it is fabulous! Especially for traveling. First of all, it’s like having a blanket, it’s so cozy. Next, it has pockets! Oh yeah! Plus, it’s machine washable- which will be necessary after being on a plane. And (saving the best for last), it comes with its own little pillow case and can be folded up and turned into a pillow if I want to sleep! How cute is that?

When I arrive in the desert, I will put my Mer-sea shawl in my carry-on, roll up my sleeves and throw on my flip flops. Then I’ll be ready for the sun!

First stop- getting a pedicure! 🙂

Feb 7, Black and Grey

A reader wrote to me that she doesn’t like wearing black- because it’s so dreary, and I agree with her that it can be depressing, but I think it can also be really chic.

In my outfit today I have replaced the boring grey fleece on the left with this gorgeous grey sweater from Zara. My 17 year old son bought this for me for Christmas a few years ago, how cute is that?! One thing I love about this sweater is that it is a very thin- almost like a t shirt, but warmer. It also has great detailing on the sides- see below in the photo.

Living in the Pacific Northwest people tend to wear a lot of fleece. And I get it, fleece is warm, but unless you are out hiking or skiing, I say skip the fleece. A nice sweater is much more stylish.

I also changed up the look by rolling the hems of my jeans, showing just a peek of skin. I also replaced my black booties with the grey suede ones from Paul Green. These boots were expensive, but worth every penny. My feet hurt ALL THE TIME, so these well made boots are amazingly comfortable and I can wear them all day.

To finish the outfit, I added a cute necklace for interest and a belt- revealed by the infamous half tuck!

To me, this is a chic look. It’s easy, effortless, yet stylish.

Feb 6, Little Changes

One of the things I love so much about this blog is that it forces me to really take a hard look at my outfit each day. I highly suggest taking photos of yourself when getting dressed. I know it sounds strange, but seeing myself in a photo is different than looking in the mirror. Once you think you have your outfit selected, make a few small changes and see what happens. Maybe I’m weird, but this is my idea of fun! 🙂

Take today’s outfit. I am loving this thermal shirt (these seem to be all the rage right now), and I paired it with jeans and tall brown boots. Looking at the photo on the left- it just doesn’t look right. It’s a little plain, and I don’t like how the jeans gather around the knees. I also think the tall boots cut my legs in half, making them look short.

So… I swapped out the jeans for these cute ripped ones, added a big belt and did the half tuck thing. I then threw on this gorgeous scarf, adding a bit of color to the otherwise neutral outfit. To finish off, I rolled the jeans up at the hem and put on my slip on tennis shoes.

And now for a little insider tip, I am wearing socks with these shoes. I wear Smart Wool  Seek and No Show socks- and they are my all time favorites! So much so, that I had a holiday party with my girlfriends where we did a ‘favorite things’ gift exchange and I gave these socks. My friend Missey, who received them, seemed a little disappointed, but then the next day texted me to tell me how much she loved them. They actually stay put- which is rare for this type of sock. You gotta trust me on this one!

Feb 6th, How to Wear all one Color

DSCN6451DSCN6033You may have noticed this about me- but in case you haven’t, I’ll state the obvious. I love neutrals! I feel very comfortable in neutrals- and especially love wearing clothes in the same color family. The only problem is that it can be really plain and boring- as seen on the right!

In my ‘after’ look, I replaced the tan t shirt with a cable knit sweater. The cable knit adds a subtle pattern, and the denim shirt underneath is a nice contrast. I especially like the tails hanging out below the sweater (breaks up the solid cream) and the sleeves rolled up (another place to add a bit of color).  As for my feet- I chose my loafers.

Now I have a comfy, warm and cute outfit- too bad I’m just heading back to lay on my couch! LOL!

Jan 17th, Three for Thursday

Hello Friends! I’m having a little procedure today on my back*- so I’m not able to show you what I am wearing (besides, hospital gowns are so last year!).

Instead I decided to show my favorite dress worn 10 different ways. Looking back through some old pictures really showed me how versatile this dress is! If you think about it in terms of cost per wear- this dress cost around $150 (I think- I bought it so long ago I honestly can’t remember). If I’ve worn it  10 times- then my cost per wear is only $15. What a bargain!

May 11th, Casual in Khakis

For those of you who are following my foot pain saga, I think I may have some good news!

Taking readers advice, I decided to do a little shopping and check out Danskos. Originally, I thought there was no way that I would find any that I liked. In my mind, Dansko is a big, black, clunky, masculine shoe!

Much to my surprise, I found these – dare I say it- cute sandals! They definitely aren’t something that I would ordinarily be drawn to- but once I put them on I was hooked!

They are so sublimely comfortable- and my feet are so happy! However, before I decide to keep them for sure, I need to know your thoughts.

Are they keepers?*

As for my outfit. I decided to play it safe and wear my new shoes with khaki cargos and a striped shirt- but these stripes (on the right) are so close together they make me dizzy and the cut of this shirt is too short and very boxy and not flattering. It just looks weird!

To improve the look, I rolled the cuffs of the pants to make them a little more ‘on trend’, and then switched out the striped shirt to a cute blue and white one. Notice the cute details on the sleeves. The necklace is the final touch.

Don’t forget, it’s Fashion Friday, so be sure to click here to see some other very cute ideas!

Side view to show the shoe from another angle. The heels are a little clunky, but luckily that is ‘in’.

*I won’t wear the shoes out of the house today, (so I can return them if necessary) so please feel free to be very honest!

April 11th, 6 Ways to Wear a Scarf

This outfit is so simple it’s almost silly that I’m showing it today- but it is also one of my favorites and one of my standbys for days when I can’t think of anything else to wear.

I call it my  ‘Parisian Chic’ look!

I am simply wearing my dark skinny jeans with a grey and white striped shirt. To add some pizzaz, I decided to complete the look with a scarf. I tried several different ways of wearing the scarf- and thought you all might enjoy seeing some of my options!

Below is my favorite:

Here I put the scarf on with the tails pointing to the back, I then brought them around front and loosely tied the ends together.

This time I did the same thing, but decided not to tie the ends together.

This time I folded the scarf in half- then put the loop end forward, I then pulled the non looped end through the loop.

I tied the ends together and then looped it around my head a couple of times- leaving the knot in the back.

I call this my 'rocker chic' look- where I just throw the scarf on and call it good. I very rarely wear it like this!

This was just me trying something for fun- wearing it as a belt. I definitely wouldn't really wear it this way- but some gals totally rock this look! It's a little too 'pirate' fashion for me! LOL!

By the way, it’s What I Wore Wednesday– so be sure to click over and check out some great sites!

March 13th, Faking It

Ok, this is ridiculous. We have snow on the ground here this morning. Seriously?! It’s mid March!

I’ve given up on the real spring appearing- so I’ve decided to fake it.

I’m wearing my new pink cropped pants*- and then paired them with a grey turtleneck to keep warm.

I could have worn this turtleneck with boring old dress pants- as seen on the right, but isn’t the pink more fun and more springy?

I think so!

What’s the weather like where you live? Am I all alone in the cold?

*** Outfit update! The snow is really coming down hard now, so I have taken off my flats and replaced them with my black booties and socks… Sorry I don’t have time to post a picture, gotta get to work.

Darn you Mother Nature!

Yes, my feet might get a little cold- but oh well! I need a break from my boots!

By the way, my sisters arrive today, so be sure to check back tomorrow for my first ever ‘Sister’s Week’ post. We have some really fun ideas planned!

Lastly, don’t forget to check out my Facebook page and ‘like’ me. Thanks! 🙂

*I used color enhance on my IPhoto and the color of these pants appears a lot brighter than they really are. I swear!

These are from Nordstrom, Vince Camuto brand and I bought 2 pair- one in black and one pink. (FYI I checked online and they aren’t showing the pink anymore.. Check in store if you’re interested.)
