Nov 16th, Polka Dots!

I bought this cute polka dot blouse at Target a while ago- and haven’t had the chance to wear it yet.

Has anyone else noticed that I have found some really cute things at Target lately! Gotta love Target!

Polka dots are really trendy right now- and I will say that personally, I only like them in small doses! On younger (or perhaps hipper) women- they can look lovely- but on the other hand- you DO NOT want to look like Minnie Mouse!

However, a nice, subtle polka dot can be a great addition to your wardrobe.  I’m wearing black work pants today- this is a very typical working mom staple. I prefer the pants on the left (even in the winter) than the long, baggy version on the right. Yes, my ankles look a little cold- but I’ll survive (as long as I am inside most of the day).

I also think by tucking the blouse in I look more polished- and the pink belt is a fun way to add a little color into the look.

May 17th, One Dress, Two Ways

Today I’m showing this plain blue dress worn two totally different ways.

First off, is my ‘work’ look. All I did was add a bright pink belt. So simple, yet it works. The belt defines my waist and the bright burst of color works keeps it current.

Taking it even one step further, below I’ve added my ever favorite J Crew grey cardigan (it gets chilly in my office).

Again, I’ve opted to keep the neckline very simple. I didn’t want anything competing with the  belt!

The solid grey cardigan adds to the color block look.

Now, for those of you who don’t work- but still want to wear a dress (because they are so comfy), you can easily dress it down. Below I have added a safari style jacket over the dress, swapped out the heels for flats and added a necklace. These small changes completely alter the look- making it totally appropriate for running errands!

(Sorry about the blurry picture)

The big slouchy handbag helps dress down this shift dress.

March 30th, Preppy Mom, Take 2

I like the idea of a simple plaid shirt and a pair of jeans, but as you can see- it isn’t always a great look.

This shirt on the right is a little too ‘country’ for my style. The faded, baggy jeans aren’t stylish- and do I even need to mention the ugly black shoes?

To improve the outfit, I’ve switched to this cute pink and orange checked shirt. I’m wearing my dark blue skinny jeans and some cute ballet flats (they are tan- although in the picture they look red).

I’ve worn this shirt already once, see here. But since this blog is a real reflection of things in my closet- I’m wearing it again.

I’ve changed it up a bit; last time I wore it over a tank- today I have on a long sleeve white shirt underneath. I’ve also tucked in my shirt, added a cute belt, and gotten rid of the cardigan.

Last, I’ve added a necklace and white bracelet. All of these small details give the impression that I’ve made an effort with this outfit, and helps me look pulled together.

Hooking up with cute Melissa from Girlymama for Fashion Friday!

I love the bright color of this top- it feels perfect for spring.

March 28th, Maxinitsa

Good morning! I’m not sure about my spelling of Maxinista, but hopefully you know what I mean.

I have always been a big fan of TJ Maxx, my mom is a huge fan and passed her love down to me. LOL!

The thing is though- you have to be very careful and have a very critical eye when you go.

Don’t just snap up everything in your sight- don’t buy things just because they are inexpensive.

Go knowing what you are looking for- and then if you find it- yeah! If not, try again another day. They are constantly getting new shipments in.

I went looking for a maxi dress. I’ve wanted one for a long time- and was so excited to see this for $39.

The problem is- wearing it all alone, it sort of looks like a nightgown, don’t you think?

On the left I have tried to fix this by adding this cute shirt over my dress (I love the hemline of this top) and then to define my waist I added a cute pink belt. To finish it off, I threw on my favorite Stella and Dot necklace.

Cute, huh?

The nice thing about a maxi dress is that is makes your legs look really long. If you are petit, this might be a great dress for you (but you’ll need to wear heels).

By the way, I’ve slipped down to #11 on Top Mommy Blogs- don’t forget to click on the link on the right to vote. You can vote everyday, it’s just one tiny (and quick) click! Thank you so much!!

It’s Wednesday, so I’ve linked with Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday. Check it out!

I like that the dress and shirt are shades of blue- and then the pop of pink in the belt and necklace really stand out. The sandals may be wishful thinking today...
