Jan 28th, Tennis Shoes

dscn5359dscn5356Let me share with you a little story… if you are a long time reader you will know one of my all time LEAST favorite looks is tennis shoes with jeans, especially ‘mom jeans’.

Well, about a few months ago I was down at the school bus stop waiting for my daughter to get home from school. One of my good friends was standing there in jeans, a cute shirt and flip flops. It was 45 degrees out. I exclaimed, ‘oh my gosh, aren’t your feet frozen?’ to which she answered, ‘yes but I didn’t know what shoes to wear. You (meaning me) are always writing about how you can’t wear tennis shoes with jeans, so my only other option is flip flops.’

Sigh… I realized that she didn’t quite understand what I meant when I said no tennis shoes with jeans. She thought I mean NONE. EVER. PERIOD.

The thing is, there are some versions of tennis shoes that are actually quite cute- and will look adorable with skinny jeans, or whatever you are wearing. Puma in particular has come out with an incredible line of ‘tennis shoes’ that are actually styled to look like ballet flats (which happens to be my favorite shoe of all time).

So readers- when I say don’t wear tennis shoes with jeans I mean the old clunky tennis shoes that you wear to work out in (as seen above right). Instead, invest in some cute, streamlined ballet flat style ‘tennis shoes’ and your feet will be comfy, and toasty (although you CAN NOT wear socks with these. EVER) and stylish!

Obviously my favorite are the Puma ones, which you can see here but there are some other cute ones as well, as seen here or here.

Here are some more examples of outfit for you!

Mom jeans and tennis shoes- a HUGE 'no no' in my book!

By switching out the mom jeans for dark skinnys, my legs look leaner and the ballet flats/ tennis shoe completes the look.

Even if all you are wearing is a tank and a zipped up hoodie, these streamlined tennis shoes are so much cuter!

Very simple and casual 'everyday mom' look!

Nov 21st, Disneyworld: Day 3

We did Epcot yesterday, and I am exhausted! I loved every minute of it though… friends had told me that it wasn’t that great- and to even skip it- but boy am I glad we didn’t! We had so much fun, saw so many things, and did some amazing rides!

Here is what I wore:

Again, I dressed in layers- and am glad I did! I kept changing my outfit throughout the day- it would be warm, then cold and windy, then warm again… crazy!

I wore my skinny cargo pants, a tank top, a white waffle style cotton shirt over the tank and then my denim shirt on top. As you can see, I have a small black cross body bag to hold my essentials (lip stick, sunglasses, map and tickets) and then on my back I have my backpack with the bigger stuff. I’m wearing my Puma’s- which proved again to be a great choice! My feet never hurt!

As I stated on the first day- I know this isn’t the most fashionable look in the world- but it is cute enough to not embarrass my family!

Pants: Micheal Kors, Shirt: Micheal Stars, Denim shirt: J Crew, Shoes: Puma

Not to be mean- but I did see some things I would advise not to wear.

It’s a horrible picture, but can you see this gal’s stretch pants? I wonder if she looked in the mirror before she left the hotel room? This is awful!
This family decided to wear matching tie dyed shirts…
It’s hard to see, but this gal has little Winnie the Pooh on the back of her socks… seriously?!

Today we are hitting Universal Studios! I’ll post my outfit from today tomorrow!

Nov 18th, What to Wear at Disneyworld

Over the past year and a half of blogging, one question I hear over and over is ‘what should I wear at Disneyworld?’.

Well, this week my family is on vacation at Disneyworld, so I thought it was the perfect time to share with you my suggestions!

Here are my top 5 things not to do:

1. Wear new shoes

2. Wear high heels (think of Gloria from Modern Family)

3. Wear a bikini top as a shirt (I’ve seen this on hot days).

4. Wear a fanny pack (See picture below for further proof)

5. Dress your entire family in matching outfits

Now that I’ve gone over the “dont’s” let’s talk about some “do’s”!

In my opinion, the 2 most important “do’s” are: 1) comfort, 2) layering.

The weather in Florida can change quickly- so you want to be prepared for anything! Also, you will be walking ALOT so you definitely need shoes that are ultra comfy.

Let’s look at the photos above. As you can see from my picture on the right I am wearing a colorful t shirt, cropped jeans and my comfy tennis shoes. Problem is, I look like a total dork!

On the left I have on much cuter cropped jeans (ankle length is much more flattering than mid calf), a striped tank and a bright zipped hoodie. During the day when it’s warm, I can take off the hoodie and the tank is cute enough to stand on it’s own. In the evening, I’ll throw the sweatshirt back on.

As for my feet- I have replaced the clunky (and dorky) tennis shoes with my Puma’s. These are as comfy as tennis shoes, but much sleeker and stylish.

The last item I would recommend is either a cute backpack (especially if you have small children who can’t carry their own stuff) or a large cross body purse. I’ve opted for the purse option. My kids are old enough now (9 & 11) that they can carry their own drawstring bags with sweatshirt, sunglasses, water bottle, hat, snack). That leaves me to carry wallet, camera, guide book, scarf and a bottle of water.

My aim isn’t to be the most fashionable person in Disneyworld- but I at least want to look somewhat cute- espcecially since we will be looking at the photos from this trip for years to come…

This large, cross body bag will hold my phone, camera, water bottle, scarf… the essentials!
Surely this picture doesn’t even need an explanation.
By the end of the episode, Gloria was in slippers!

Nov 15th, Three for Thursday, Utility Vest

Welcome to another edition of Three for Thursday, where I show 1 item worn 3 ways!

Today I am highlighting my utility vest.

I first saw this vest all over style blogs last summer. I immediately drove to my local Old Navy and snatched one up! It is a fun piece to have, and I continue to see women wearing it, so this trend is going to be around for a while.

My first look I have paired the vest with jeans, a striped shirt and a scarf. This look is super casual, easy and fun. Don’t be afraid to mix a striped shirt with a floral pattern scarf. Pattern mixing is another trend that is here to stay. Quick note about my scarf- please make sure you buy scarves that are large and have some bulk to them. A scrawny scarf will not look cute, instead it will look like you are trying to hard- and missing the mark.

This scarf is one of my favorites! I love the floral pattern!

My next look is a fun one- I decided to pair the rugged vest with a dainty lace shirt. To add a little more  interest I chose my red jeans and my Tory Burch flats. I think a necklace might be the perfect final touch!

Contrasting the feminine lace top and the rugged vest is a fun way to mix things up.

My last look is one you’ve probably seen me do before (and will see a different version of next week).  Here I have layered my vest over a dress. It’s a fun way to make a dress casual enough for day use (you could wear this anywhere!). To keep warm, I have on socks and boots. To add a little color and interest, I chose my Stella and Dot statement necklace.

I love this necklace, but not sure it’s totally right for this look… hmmm…

Sept 26th, Living in My Car!

Some days I feel like I live in my car.

Yesterday I left my house at 3:30- got home at 7:00- and all I was doing was driving kids from one sporting event to the next (pick up from tennis, drive to basketball practice, drive to soccer game…). Over scheduled much?

Argh! On days like these I want to be dressed super comfy- and ready for anything,

Today’s outfit is a good example of that. It’s an easy outfit for running around town in- it’s casual & comfy- yet looks pulled together.

I like the look of the shirt tails peeking out- and I love the cable knit detail on this sweater- I even decided to skip a necklace and let the sweater speak for itself.

As for my jeans- these are my old favorites! They are Diva style from Old Navy (which I’m not sure if they are still making this style- these are old). They are straight leg jeans in a shorter length that I simply roll up to make them look cropped. They are the perfect casual jeans for running errands in!

May 20th, Weekend Casual

Sorry for the delayed post, I’ve been cleaning my house this morning, and you definitely didn’t want yo see what I was wearing then.

Now I need to run a few errands, so I threw on a pair of cuffed jeans, a white cotton shirt (with cute button detail down the front) and then added a black vest to keep me warm.

Nothing earth shattering, nothing very fashionable- but my husband thought it looked cute, and that’s all that matters! 🙂

Enjoy your Sunday!

These Puma’s are the perfect weekend shoe- comfy, cute and casual!

May 9th, Shoe Issue

Bad news, I have plantar fasciitis in my left foot, which means I have to be really careful about what shoes I wear.

However, no matter how bad it gets, you will not see me in the outfit on the right*. I promise!

I don’t even know where to begin on this look- but let’s start with the shirt tucked in to the high waisted mom jeans.

This is not flattering at all. The cut of these jeans is really bad- the length is too short, making my legs look short), the waistband is way too high and the wide hip/ thigh area is also not doing me any favors. All in all, YIKES! All that and I haven’t even mentioned the tennis shoes, which complete the look- making it ugly from head to toe.

That being said, for the next few days I will only be wearing supportive shoes that help my foot heel. I may even break out the Birkenstocks- so if you see me out and about- please don’t laugh- or judge!

The good news is that because of my ‘shoe issue’ I’ve learned a little lesson about judging other people’s shoes.

I know, if makes me sound like a horrible person, but sometimes when I’d see someone wearing ugly shoes- I would judge them. Not in a mean way, but I would wonder about their shoe choice!

Now I realize, who knows what feet issues they may be dealing with?

So, on that note- I will no longer judge people because of their footwear.

However, if you have foot pain- and you must wear your orthopedic/ comfy/ ugly shoes, please promise me to put some effort into the rest of your outfit!

Speaking of cute outfits- linking up to Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday! Check it out!

I love this bright green top, and paired with the cropped jeans it makes for a cute, casual outfit.

Shirt: Marshalls, Jeans: Old Navy, Shoes: Puma

*Yes, I’ve shown this photo before- but it bears repeating.

It looks like many of us suffer from foot pain! Thanks so much to all of you who have shared your stories! I’ve spent the last hour on The Walking Company website looking for a cute, supportive shoe. Here is one I found- and may order! Tell me what you think!

Feb 14th, Valentines Day

I have resisted the colored jeans fad for several months now, thinking I am too old to be wearing them.

But while out shopping with my mom yesterday, I stumbled across these at TJ Maxx and couldn’t resist. I’ve decided that since they were inexpensive I’ll give them a try, especially since it’s Valentines Day!

I originally thought I’d wear the outfit on the right- just simple cropped jeans and this cute striped shirt- but I think with the red jeans the outfit takes on a whole new look. What do you think?

I’ve added my new favorite shoes and a cute necklace to bring some unexpected color into the outfit.

Have a great Valentines- enjoy your day!

Am I too old for colored jeans?
