Oct 4, Rain boots

This outfit started with my rain boots and then worked it’s way up. I often decide my outfits this way- choosing my shoes first, then building the outfit from that. I take into account several factors; including the occasion, the weather and how long I am going to be on my feet.

I’m teaching school today, so will be on my feet a lot, so need comfy shoes. Since it’s supposed to rain all day, these Hunter rain boots are perfect. They are comfy and warm, and much cuter than the clunky and awkward boots on the left.

As for my leggings, I’m not usually a fan of wearing yoga pants to work, they seem too casual, so I have dressed these up with a long blouse and cardigan. The black cardigan is fine, but isn’t the burgundy one on the right better? I love the pop of color, and the longer length is sure to cover my entire behind. The blouse also covers everything (front and back!), and has such a cute but subtle pattern.

The blouse (old) and sweater (new) are from Target, boots are Hunter (Nordstrom) and my leggings are Athleta. I recommend buying high quality leggings! Cheap, thin ones look terrible. They stretch and sag easily, and often you can see right through them. The more expensive ones hold their shape and last for years.

April 11, Rainy Day

My daughter and I are on Spring Break touring colleges, and today it’s supposed to be cold and rainy, so luckily I packed a sweater and my cute Burberry raincoat.

This raincoat was another purchase by my hubby (it was a birthday gift years ago.) I live in Seattle where a stylish raincoat is an absolute essential. If you don’t have one, consider treating yourself. It doesn’t have to be super expensive, but it should be something that has a little style to it. I see so many people in the Pacific Northwest wearing North Face black jackets (which I love), but it’s also nice to have a stylish raincoat. Plus, just looking at the photo above, it’s such an improvement over the big, bulky black jacket I have on.

The Burberry coat nips in at the waist, which gives me a little shape, plus the cute signature Burberry plaid peeking out at the cuffs adds some major style to the look. I’ve paired it with a cream colored sweater that I have (of course) tucked in. I packed 3 pairs jeans for my week long trip; the black ones from the plane, the light ones that I wore on Tuesday and these dark ones by Paige. A darker denim is a little dressier, and these will be perfect if we go out for a nice dinner. For my feet, I am wearing my cute black booties instead of my ugly Uggs. While I love those Uggs for warmth and comfort, they aren’t adding anything to the outfit.

Feb 22nd, It’s Going Around

Thank you so much for all the sweet comments from yesterday! I was so surprised and flattered that people took the time to write and tell me to feel better! Wow! What a supportive and great community this blogging world is!

Thank you!~

I am feeling so much better today, but unfortunately now my son has it. ARGH! I guess it’s going around- many of my neighbors said they have it too.

So- today’s outfit is not really what I am wearing- I’m actually still in my jammies- but I took a photo over the weekend of a potential outfit, so I thought I’d show it.

I’ve shown this picture on the right before- but it was a while ago, so I thought I could show it again. This was me- a year ago (before my style project!)

I see lots of moms wearing outfits like this- and while they will definitely stay dry- it’s not that stylish.

On the left I have re-created the same idea- jeans (or in this case black skinny jeans), boots, a waterproof jacket. I’ve gotten rid of these horrid pink rain boots and replaced them with my Frye’s. They technically aren’t rainboots- but  I sprayed on a treatment  so that they are water repellent, and it’s not like I’m going to be standing in the rain.

My jacket isn’t technically a rain jacket either- but again- this outfit isn’t for a soccer game- this is for running errands- darting in and out of the car on a wet or gloomy day. Plus, isn’t that what umbrellas are for?

This jacket will keep me  warm and dry- and the style is much more current than the bright blue raincoat.  A nice snuggly warm turtleneck also helps keep me toasty.

It’s got the ‘rocker chic’ vibe to it, which I’ve discovered is my alter ego! Who knew?

Have a great day and stay healthy! As my mom always says- ‘wash your hands often!’

As usual, it’s Wednesday, so I’ve hooked up with The Pleated Poppy!

*** 11:42 Outfit update! ***

I had to run to the store today to get some children’s Tylonal so I had to take off my jammies and  actually get dressed. I decided this Burberry rain jacket would be even better than the motorcycle style jacket I originally showed. This was a gift from my hubby a few years ago. I love it, it is a classic look that will never go out of style.

This Burberry raincoat is a more stylish alternative than the blue rain jacket!
