No time for a before and after post this morning, I am running late and need to get out the door- but I wanted to quickly show my outfit that was inspired by @CBStyled over on Instagram. She did a cute post yesterday showing how to wear joggers 13 different ways- and they were all adorable! As you know, I love my joggers- they are seriously the most comfortable pant on earth, so I was excited to see her post and find some cute ideas. Below is my quick take on building an outfit around my grey joggers from Target. I added a cropped knit sweater (Vince) and then threw on a scarf to tie the colors together. For my feet I am wearing wedge heel booties from J Crew that I have had for years. Gotta run, sorry for the quickie!
I really love wearing dresses, especially in the summer. They are such an easy outfit! But in the fall/ winter I struggle a bit because I worry about getting cold. So today I am showing a denim dress that I have styled to not only look cute, but to also keep me warm!
My first step was my shoes. These tall boots can be worn with knee socks, which definitely add major warmth. If it’s really chilly, some neutral tights will also work. Next I added this long cardigan. I’ve shown this cardigan a lot as a ‘before’ look- because it can tend to look like a bathrobe, but paired with this dress, I think it looks cozy. My infinity scarf completes the outfit- it adds color, warmth and style. All in all, a cute fall look perfect for school.
ps: If you want to see some of the Netflix/ Amazon Video recommendations from yesterday, head over to Instagram @Everydaymomstyle_ to check out what people were saying! I loved hearing from readers- and am excited to check out Killing Eve, You, Derry Girls to name a few! Thank you!! 🙂
Hello Friends! A quick post today on my OOTD and a message that I won’t be posting for a few days as I am heading out of town to go visit my son at college for parents weekend! Woot hoot!
I’ve chosen to wear a grey maxi dress on the plane today. As many of you know, whenever I fly I always bring a scarf. It not only keeps me warm, but also comes in handy on my trip as a quick swim suit cover up or as a shawl. One note, when choosing a scarf, I always like a big bulky one- it looks so much better than a thin or skinny one.
While many of you are heading somewhere warm and exotic for Spring Break, my daughter and I are going to the midwest to look at colleges for the week. Today’s outfit is my airplane look.
I chose all black because I’m packing light and will need these jeans a few more times on my trip. Plus, black will hide any dirt and honestly, what’s more chic than all black? It’s such an easy base to make simple changes to for an all new look.
Today I added a scarf because I am always cold on airplanes, and a scarf is a great accessory to add style and warmth! I love this scarf because of it’s gorgeous colors, it’s generous size (nothing worse than a wimpy scarf) and I love the cute fringe along the edges. My hubby bought this for me years ago at Lucky. He’s a good shopper, I probably would never have picked this out on my own- but I have worn it so many times over the years.
These cute slip on tennis shoes are perfect for the airport where you have to take off your shoes for security. And don’t worry about my feet getting cold, I am wearing my Smart Wool socks.
I’m calling this look my “rock star” look because it is inspired by Steven Tyler, lol!
Seriously though- he always wears flowy scarves. When I wear a scarf, it’s usually an infinity scarf looped around my neck. Today I thought I’d take a little risk and try wearing it loose. And to be honest, I really like it!
I love the color it adds to this otherwise plain sweater. Plus, even though it is technically spring, it’s still a bit chilly, so this scarf actually provides a little warmth- while still looking ‘springlike’ with the pretty floral pattern. Speaking of being chilly…
I had a reader write asking how to keep your feet warm, while still showing a little skin at the ankle. Here is how! Wear Smart Wool socks. These keep my feet toasty warm- and they work with my booties, as well as my slip on tennis shoes.
Originally, I was planning on wearing this scarf with a tee shirt- as pictured below, but it was just too chilly. However, if its warm where you live, consider trying a scarf with a tee shirt. It’s a fun way to dress up a plain shirt.
One of the things I love so much about this blog is that it forces me to really take a hard look at my outfit each day. I highly suggest taking photos of yourself when getting dressed. I know it sounds strange, but seeing myself in a photo is different than looking in the mirror. Once you think you have your outfit selected, make a few small changes and see what happens. Maybe I’m weird, but this is my idea of fun! 🙂
Take today’s outfit. I am loving this thermal shirt (these seem to be all the rage right now), and I paired it with jeans and tall brown boots. Looking at the photo on the left- it just doesn’t look right. It’s a little plain, and I don’t like how the jeans gather around the knees. I also think the tall boots cut my legs in half, making them look short.
So… I swapped out the jeans for these cute ripped ones, added a big belt and did the half tuck thing. I then threw on this gorgeous scarf, adding a bit of color to the otherwise neutral outfit. To finish off, I rolled the jeans up at the hem and put on my slip on tennis shoes.
And now for a little insider tip, I am wearing socks with these shoes. I wear Smart Wool Seek and No Show socks- and they are my all time favorites! So much so, that I had a holiday party with my girlfriends where we did a ‘favorite things’ gift exchange and I gave these socks. My friend Missey, who received them, seemed a little disappointed, but then the next day texted me to tell me how much she loved them. They actually stay put- which is rare for this type of sock. You gotta trust me on this one!
If you were going to a Favorite Things Party, what would you bring? Please comment below!
Well, we’ve made it through 2 whole days of touring Disneyworld, my goodness this place is HUGE!
I wanted to share with you some more tips about what to wear. As I mentioned yesterday, layering is the absolute key. It is very chilly in the morning- and as it warms up (or cools down) you want to have appropriate clothes.
Today’s outfit is actually what I wore yesterday- and it worked out great. It was cold all day and I never even needed to remove any layers- but had the sun come out- I could have removed the jacket- or the leggings, or the scarf…
I took a simple cotton black dress (black works because it will hide dirt- in the heat of summer I wouldn’t wear black- but for Nov it works). Underneath, I wore black stretch pants, then on top wore a cardigan (not pictured- I had to add it because it was so cold- these pictures were taken before I left), then on top of the cardigan I wore this utility jacket. To top the whole thing off, I added a scarf. I love this outfit because of the many layers- and because this jacket has large- deep pockets perfect for holding my map, my phone, anything!
As for my shoes- these are my Dansko sandals- and they worked perfectly! My feet were incredibly comfortable, my back never ached (as it usually does after a lot of walking) and let me tell you- we did A LOT of standing in lines and walking around! Comfortable shoes are an absolute MUST for Disneyworld.
My cross body bag ended up being too heavy to use, so instead I opted for a plain black backpack. I carried snacks, a bottle of water, my guide book and camera. Not super stylish- but it certainly worked to carry the essentials!
Drink lots of water to stay hydrated!
If you are visiting Disneyworld in the winter, be sure to pack warm clothes! Even thought the forecast was 72 degrees, it was 58 today! Very chilly, I can’t tell you how many people we saw who had to make an ’emergency purchase’ in the gift store of a dorky Disneyworld sweatshirt. Plan for chilly weather- I’d rather be over dressed than freezing! Keep in mind, every item pictured above is rolled up and stashed inside my bag on the picture on the right.
Dress: Macy’s, Jacket: Marshalls, Shoes: Dansko, Scarf: Boutique in Yakima
Sorry for the late post- I was having some technical difficulties this morning!
And, truth be told- I played in a tennis match this afternoon (I lost), so I am just now getting dressed for the day.
I’m wearing my cream cords and a gray sweater. To add a little interest- and to tie the pants and sweater together, I added this cute scarf. It is not an infinity scarf- but I safety pinned the ends together to make it into one. I then looped the whole thing around my head 3 times. So easy!
Hope you’re having a great Monday!
I love the asymmetrical hemline of this sweater- it is so much more interesting than a straight hemline!
It finally feels like fall here in Seattle, so I decided it was time for my ultra cozy sweater. I bought this several years ago at Anthropologie, and absolutely love it because of all the detail in it- there is so much to look at!
I layered the cardigan over a plain black t shirt- then added a scarf to give the look an even more cozy feel to it. It’s such an improvement over the look on the right. Please note that I actually really love the sweater on the right- but paired with this high neck black shirt and Uggs- it’s too plain.
As for my bottoms- I need your opinion.
My first look is jeans rolled to look like boyfriend jeans (note- this is the exact same pair of jeans in both pictures). For my feet, I chose my short black cowboy boots. Looking at the photos, I honestly can’t decide if I like this look or not!
Next I decided to try the sweater paired with my purple jeans- see below!
What do you think? Purple jeans or blue jeans?
To make my jeans look like boyfriend jeans, I simply rolled the bottoms. So simple!
You may notice this sweater is starting to pill a bit… I have a trick for you! Using a razor, shave your sweater and the pills will disappear. It takes a little time, but so worth it to save a favorite piece! Just be very careful- if the sweater is thin, you could easily make a hole.
You might also notice that you can see my short sleeves from the t shirt bunching up under the sweater- I will swap out this shirt for a long sleeve shirt so that the sleeves don’t bunch.
Please take a minute to comment- blue jeans or purple jeans?!
