Oct 10, Denim Shirt

Today’s OOTD is another Nordstrom inspired look from the email marketing campaign I received over the weekend.

The advice for today was to build a look around a classic accessory like a wool felt hat, which is adorable on some people, but not me! Instead I decided to build my outfit around a classic piece- my denim shirt.

I’ve had a denim shirt for years now, and if you don’t own one- I highly suggest you buy one asap. Either that or a denim jacket, which may be my all time favorite! A denim shirt (or jacket) is so versatile, it literally goes with everything. I always pack one when I travel, as it is the perfect layering piece. The one I’m wearing today is from American Eagle, but I also have one from J Crew that is more fitted.

Today I have paired my shirt with joggers. I like the casual, loose fit, but I don’t want to look messy, so I needed to tuck it in and roll the sleeves. To really add some style I have chosen snakeskin slides. While it’s tempting to just wear my comfy slip on sneakers, these shoes are a statement piece and truly complete the look.

April 27, Wide Leg Jeans

I’ve really become a fan of my wide leg jeans, they are a nice change from my skinny ones! The important thing to remember with wide leg jeans is balance.

Looking at the before photo- this top is just too big and baggy, and paired with the loose jeans it looks frumpy. The orthopedic tennis shoes are not helping!

This paper thin sweater is a better option. The cut is a little slimmer, the weight of it is perfect for spring (not to heavy) and the shape works with the wide leg jeans. To complete the outfit, I chose my cute snakeskin slingbacks and added a necklace to give the look a little color.

When shopping for wide leg jeans and important thing to consider is the cut of the wide leg. Make sure the wide cut is only in the leg- and not throughout the entire pant. Otherwise, you will just look really wide all over. I hate to share this photo below because the quality is terrible, but here I am trying on some wide leg jeans at Target. As you can see- the width is throughout the entire leg- making me look lumpy and frumpy.

Sweater- Zara (gift from my son a few years ago!)

Jeans- Eddie Bauer (old), but here are a similar pair in a lighter wash

Sept 5th, A Labor (Day) of Love

Tank, black cardigan and cropped jeans.

Same look as on the left- but something is seriously wrong!

I titled this post ‘A Labor of Love’ because that is what this project has become for me! Although it’s time consuming, I’m enjoying posting everyday.  I love getting dressed every day (never thought I’d say that). This project has totally inspired me to think twice before getting dressed- and I’m enjoying looking ay my closet in a new way.

Tell me- have you been inspired? Please share!

My outfit today is simple, cropped jeans, a tan shirt and black cardigan. On the right I am showing how even this simple look can go wrong. My shirt’s neckline is too high and it is too tight (notice the tummy bulging underneath- time for more sit ups!). While the black cardigan is actually really cute- it looks strange with this neckline, adds nothing to this outfit- and appears blah. The black shoes- surely I don’t even need to explain how bad these are.

On the left I have swapped out the tight crew neck shirt for a loose fitting, longer tank. My secret with tanks is I always wear a tight tank underneath. It helps suck the tummy in, and also prevents the tank on top from appearing see through. Over the tank I am wearing a black cardigan, but this one has more interest. It is better fitting- longer, and has a cute little gather in the middle.  I also added my cute new necklace that I picked up at Forever 21 yesterday. To complete the look I am wearing my snakeskin slides. I love how this tiny bit of animal print can make the entire outfit.

A looser tank and longer cardigan fix this outfit.
