March 25th, Rock Star

I’m calling this look my “rock star” look because it is inspired by Steven Tyler, lol!

Seriously though- he always wears flowy scarves. When I wear a scarf, it’s usually an infinity scarf looped around my neck. Today I thought I’d take a little risk and try wearing it loose. And to be honest, I really like it!

I love the color it adds to this otherwise plain sweater. Plus, even though it is technically spring, it’s still a bit chilly, so this scarf actually provides a little warmth- while still looking ‘springlike’ with the pretty floral pattern. Speaking of being chilly…

I had a reader write asking how to keep your feet warm, while still showing a little skin at the ankle. Here is how! Wear Smart Wool socks. These keep my feet toasty warm- and they work with my booties, as well as my slip on tennis shoes.

Originally, I was planning on wearing this scarf with a tee shirt- as pictured below, but it was just too chilly. However, if its warm where you live, consider trying a scarf with a tee shirt. It’s a fun way to dress up a plain shirt.

March 23, March Madness

I don’t know about your family, but my family is NUTS about March Madness. Even my daughter, who cares nothing about sports, is super into it! Maybe it’s because I am a Jayhawk- and basketball is in our blood?!

It’s fun to wear a tee shirt or sweatshirt that supports your team, but there is a stylish way to do it- and a not so stylish way. Take my look on the left. The sweatshirt is way to big (it’s my hubby’s) and my jeans are all wrong.

So, to fix my outfit I have replaced the weird jeans with these cute distressed ones. I like the skinny cut- it’s much more flattering. I then replaced the oversized sweatshirt with a cute scoop neck KU shirt. For my feet, I am actually wearing my Birkenstocks! Oh yeah! I started wearing Birks in college (back in the early 90’s) and I have loved them ever since. They aren’t the most stylish shoe- but they are making a comeback. They are incredibly comfortable- and paired with the right outfit- can actually be cute.

Rock Chalk!

Feb 26, Camo Leggings

We all know how much I love my camo leggings! If not, check out these posts here and here. But I do want to say, there is such thing as too much camo- as seen in the photo below!

I would have never really worn the outfit on the left, but I wanted to demonstrate how a little camo goes a long way. This pattern is so strong that the outfit it much cuter with this plain top and bomber jacket.

I love this top because of the length and neckline. It covers my butt- plus has draping in it to give it interest and shape. See photo below-

The draping is great for hiding my tummy!

This bomber jacket I bought at H&M and I love it.! It’s a nice alternative to a cardigan, plus it’s warmer! Best of all, it’s fun to wear! In the next few months I will pair it with jeans, joggers or even over a dress. It’s a perfect staple piece.

What is one of your wardrobe staples? I love hearing from readers to get inspiration. Have a great day!

Jan 24, Airplane Attire

I’m heading out of town today, so my outfit needs to be airplane appropriate- meaning comfy, warm and layers!

So what’s wrong with jeans, a white tank and a cute cardigan? Nothing really- except in my ‘before’ look the cardigan is too small, the plain white shirt is a little boring and my shoes look old and tired. All of these pieces can be incorporated into a cute outfit- but not for today!

Instead, I’ve chosen these cute ripped jeans. These jeans have so much stretch to them they are like wearing leggings- I love that. I’ve also chosen a cute blue t shirt instead of the plain white tank. Normally I wouldn’t have tried blue shirt with blue jeans, but I’ve read that wearing the same color top to bottom is slimming. So here goes! The cute thing about this t shirt is the hemline. It’s gathered in a little knot- so it’s basically doing the half tuck thing for me. So easy!

Now for the layers- I absolutely love this giant cozy sweater from Free People. My 15 year old daughter loves it as well- and steals it from me all the time. It’s so warm and cozy, and a great layering piece. Plus it has huge pockets to slip my phone or ID in while going through security.  Since it’s grey- it goes with everything! To top off the look, I threw on this cute blue/ grey/ pink infinity scarf. Infinity scarves are perfect for those of us who can’t quite tie a scarf perfectly (there seems to be an art to that effortless look of a loosely tied scarf). Plus, it’s a is a great way to keep warm.

As for my shoes- I’ll be doing a lot of walking through the airport, so a cute comfy slip on is a must have. These ones are amazing. They are Dr. Scholl’s brand, and so comfy. I found them at Marshalls.
