Today’s outfit is jeans, a top and a super comfy long cardigan. Originally I started with blue skinny jeans and a white top with the cardigan, but then I decided to try the opposite of that look- white jeans and a blue top.
Personally, I think both looks work- but I like the version with the white jeans, simply because it’s a little different for me. So next time you are getting dressed- think about flipping your outfit around and trying something new!
I’ve really been ‘upping my game’ in the graphic t shirt department! (Insert laughing face here) Like many people, I own a ton of them- but never seem to wear them (except to sleep in), so today I decided to rock my Aspen T shirt.
The thing with wearing a graphic t shirt is that it can very easily look like you have put zero effort into your look. The outfit on the left is a good example of that. I just threw on a cotton skirt, a graphic t and black sandals and there isn’t much style to the outfit. Also, the proportions seem off. Both the t shirt and the skirt are too long, which can look frumpy.
To amp up the style, I decided a bright yellow skirt (that hits right above the knee) would be more fun. I then tied the graphic shirt in the front to give it some shape and sass. Finally, I changed my sandals to complete the casual look.
I mentioned the other day how Rose Gold is one of the trending colors this season. Today I’m wearing a rose gold t shirt paired with a sandstone faux suede jacket.
In the before photo I paired this t shirt with blue jeans and Birkenstocks. But there just isn’t anything interesting or unique about this look. So, to change it up, I swapped out the blue jeans for off white jeans- and added this incredibly soft draped front faux suede jacket. The jacket adds some style and also keeps me warm! The open toed shoes complete the look and tie in the color of the jacket.
Sometimes the best outfits are the ones you literally throw on and walk out the door. The effortless, easy and casual look of a t shirt and jeans will never go out of style.
When wearing a simple t shirt- look for fun details to help it stand out. In this case, this shirt has this interesting twisted hemline. It adds a cool touch to and otherwise very plain shirt. I also added long necklace to break up the solid color- and then swapped out my tennis shoes for my cute pointy toed leopard flats. I went from a blah outfit, to a fun and stylish one. So easy!
It will be chilly this morning, so I’ll start the day with this cute blue jacket over my t shirt. Wearing the same color from top to bottom is a good trick to look slimmer.
We all know how much I love my camo leggings! If not, check out these posts here and here. But I do want to say, there is such thing as too much camo- as seen in the photo below!
I would have never really worn the outfit on the left, but I wanted to demonstrate how a little camo goes a long way. This pattern is so strong that the outfit it much cuter with this plain top and bomber jacket.
I love this top because of the length and neckline. It covers my butt- plus has draping in it to give it interest and shape. See photo below-
The draping is great for hiding my tummy!
This bomber jacket I bought at H&M and I love it.! It’s a nice alternative to a cardigan, plus it’s warmer! Best of all, it’s fun to wear! In the next few months I will pair it with jeans, joggers or even over a dress. It’s a perfect staple piece.
What is one of your wardrobe staples? I love hearing from readers to get inspiration. Have a great day!
Leggings- Nordstrom Rack
Top- this top is very old. I bought it about 6 years ago!
It’s a t shirt and jeans kind of day. However, to be honest, I’m not huge fan of wearing this kind of t shirt. Do you know what I mean? I’m talking about t shirts that have some sort of logo or company name on them. It just seems weird to me to wear this unless I am working out or sleeping. Now a plain t shirt… I’ll wear one of those every day.
In my ‘after’ look, I have swapped out the branded t shirt for a much cuter top in the same gorgeous color. This top has dolman sleeves and a very subtle stripe pattern which give it interest. I also like the way the top gathers around my middle- which hides my tummy. Have I talked about my grey jeans yet? I bought these last year at TJ Maxx, or maybe Marshalls- I get those two confused. Anyhow, I can’t believe how much I wear them. The grey is a fun alternative to blue jeans- and since I already wear so many neutrals- they go with most of my closet! This purply/ red top works well with the grey.
You may have noticed I changed from my orthopedic grey tennis shoes to some cute grey suede booties- which also happen to be super comfy. These boots were expensive, but so worth it since they are incredibly comfortable.
I’m a huge fans of jeans and a shirt- it’s an easy, comfy, ‘go to’ mom outfit for me.
The thing is, I see so many moms wearing a similar look (jeans and a tee), but instead of looking cute- it can be frumpy.
A big, boxy t shirt is not flattering and tennis shoes with jeans just isn’t a good look.
Trust me.
Truthfully, if you still own any t shirts from college- it’s time to get rid of them. Unless you are really sentimental about one (like the one I’m wearing on the right was my waitress uniform back when I met my hubby)… I’d say get rid of all of them.
On the left is my re-worked outfit. It’s the same pair of jeans- but with this interesting tank and grey cardigan- my outfit seems more stylish, and yet it’s just as comfy.
You’ll notice I’ve replaced the tennis shoes with my Naot sandals- but my Puma flats would have worked here as well.
This time I tied the tails of the tank.
Here is the tank all alone. I picked this up at a flea market in Palm Desert last spring. I loved the color and the pattern.
Well ladies, it’s the end of the month- so it’s time for a review of all my outfits.
I’ll be back tomorrow with a Reader’s Request- so be sure to drop by then to help a reader with what to wear to Disneyworld!
For now enjoy the summary, and let me know which one was your favorite! If you haven’t had the chance to ‘like’ me on Facebook- please do so! I’m almost to 200 likes- which would make my day! 🙂
I know I used this same before picture last weekend– but it is so bad- and yet I see women dressed like this all the time- that I had to show it again.
Since I pointed out all the flaws last week- I won’t waste your time today.
Let’s just say that there isn’t anything redeeming about this look on the right (well, except for the color combo of orange and blue- which is one of my favorites!).
For a similar, yet a little more stylish look- try skinny jeans, ballet flats and a cute tissue t shirt from the gap.
Because it’s still chilly here in the Northwest, I’ve added this cute military style jacket. I love this piece- you can throw it on for casual wear- or layer it over a dress- it’s that versatile! Best part- I bought it at Marshalls!
What are your plans for today? I have NONE! Weird!! I’m not sure what to do with myself!
I've got on lots of layers today- a tank, a t shirt and then this jacket.
Ok, I’ll admit it. I’m obsessed with stripes. I just can’t help myself.
Well, actually- you would be proud of me, I did buy a new dress today and while I contemplated buying the striped version I ended up buying the solid instead… but that’s another day, another post.
Today I’m actually showing what I wore last night to our elementary school play- which both of my kids performed in!
I’m very proud of them- and impressed with the entire cast. What a fun night!
On the right I’m showing this striped top with my old white pants- I actually think it looks pretty cute- but the pant length is a little too long and the boot leg cut is a little dated.
On the left I have my J Crew pencil jeans, which look better (and more ‘springy’). The slimmer cut and cropped leg make for a more current look.
This striped top is one of my new spring purchases.
Here’s what I like about it:
1. I like the way the waist is defined by a drawstring.
2. I love the chevron stripes. These angled stripes are slimming since they draw the eye up and down (creating a vertical line). To take this even one step further- the long necklace also creates a vertical line.
3. The V neckline is flattering for most figures.
4. The sleeves are a cute length- and also flattering if you don’t like showing your upper arms.
5. I like the long length of this top- (no muffin top).
To finish my outfit off, I have on these cute patent leather ballet flats. I love the toes on these, they are squared off and remind me of real ballet shoes. So cute!
