Oct 11, Dress

My week of Nordstrom inspired outfits has come to an end. I have to say, I liked having a theme for each day. It really did make getting dressed a bit easier! Today’s theme is a dress.

I wanted a dress that is casual enough for school, and then can be easily transitioned to a going out outfit for after work.

I choose this cute black and grey dress from Banana Republic (I bought this on my 40th birthday and I am 48, so it’s really old!)

For school today I have paired it with black tights, black booties and a super chunky, cozy grey sweater. Then, if I had a hot date tonight with my hubby I could take off the tights, replace the booties with heels and remove the cardigan and I’m all set for a fancy date night. Truthfully, I will be going to the high school football game tonight, so I will definitely not be wearing this! But one can dream of a fancy dinner out somewhere warm where one can have bare arms and legs…right?!

Have a great weekend! 🙂

Dec 12th, Work/ Day Dress

DSCN6267DSCN4331I have a meeting this morning that I need to be dressed up for- yet I also have a bunch of  errands that I will be running before my meeting- so (as usual) I want to look professional, but also be comfy enough to wander around Target!

I chose this blue jersey knit shift dress. It’s a great basic piece that every working woman should own.

I love this fabric because it really moves with your body, it is not stiff or restrictive at all. I also love this dress because of the gorgeous draping in the front. It’s really hard to see on the left- but in the ‘before’ picture on the right you can sort of see it.

All alone this dress works all right, (especially if I add a great necklace or shoes) but since it’s freezing out- I’ve added cream tights, brown (flat) boots, a brown belt and this polka dot cardigan.

To finish the whole thing off I added this cool statement necklace. As I was putting it on I remembered how a few years ago I NEVER wore necklaces, thinking they were ‘too dressy’ for day wear! Funny how things change over time. Now I feel almost naked without a necklace!

Oct 15th, Head to Toe in Target

Well, I’ve done it again- I’ve dressed head to toe in Target! I started my outfit with this cute denim shirtdress I bought at Target over the summer.

Then I decided to add a puffy vest (these are very in right now- plus they add warmth- plus the bright red adds a nice contrast color to my outfit).

I then decided to switch out the denim belt that came with the dress for this cute multicolored skinny one, lastly I opted for my light brown boots!

Before I knew it, I realized that each item I selected was from Target… how about that?

A close up of the belt.

Originally I wanted to wear these booties with this outfit- but realistically, I can’t imagine being in heels all day today (I’ll be on my feet most of the day!).

Perfect for work, running errands, going to lunch… whatever your day has in store for you!

Nov 7th, Frilly and Fun

Have you noticed that I tend to wear skirts or dresses on Monday? I guess after a casual weekend, I’m ready to look dressed up again.
Plus, I say this each time, but it’s true- I think they are so comfortable.

Especially today’s choice. Maybe it’s because I think it’s actually a nightgown. I’m not positive, but I did buy it in the pajama section at Anthropologie! Oh well… I guess my secret’s out!

One thing in particular that drew me to this dress is this frilly skirt part. Every time I wear it people actually ask if they can pet me! Seriously! I don’t blame them though- the texture is so fun!

On the right I’m showing how this dress looks all alone. It’s cute, but it actually does look like it needs more.

On the left I’ve added a bright pink cardigan and a necklace. Paired with tights and my black boots- I now have a complete and extremely comfy outfit. Have a great Monday!

This hot pink is one of the trendy colors of the season. Plus, it brightens up a gray outfit!

Oct 24th, Good Old J Crew!

I’ve titled this Good Old J Crew because I bought this skirt 2 years ago and it’s one of my favorites. I usually wear it all summer long- with a t shirt and sandals as seen on the right.

Today I decided to try and make this a fall/winter look by pairing it with tights and a black turtleneck. Typically turtlenecks can be really matronly- but with the short sleeves and paired with a mini- I think this works. The long necklace creates a v down the front of my body- which breaks up the solid black a bit and also draws the eye down- a good slimming trick.

To keep my legs warm, I’ve put on black tights and black menswear inspired shoes- this is all the rage this fall, and although I hate to be too trendy, I decided to give this look a try. I bought these at DSW and they are ultra comfy and I think they are super cute.

To keep the look current, I’ve created a small arm party with a group of silver stacked bracelets.

Hope you have a great Monday. Sorry for the delayed post- I had a rough morning. Two kids who both got up on the wrong side of the bed… it wasn’t pretty!

Oct. 17th, Transition into Fall

Love this cozy fall sweater paired with a skirt and booties!

Yes, you've seen this picture before. Here was my example of how NOT to wear it!

I really love this skirt- I bought it last year and I’m finding it’s a versatile piece that can be worn in the summer- as seen here– and here– and then it also transitions into a great piece for fall.  On the right I am showing the same picture I used last time as an example of what not to do.

On the left I am showing what I think is a cute look- and I’m bummed because I don’t think it looks as good in the photo as in real life. Oh well, take my word for it (or not!).

I’ve had this fabulous sweater for years- and I never knew what to wear underneath- so it sat in the back of my closet. Today I decided to try it with this cute light blue button down- and I love it! I have the shirt layered over a tank (although that’s hard to see- I definitely need to unbutton one more button) and I’ve added a cute long necklace. To keep my legs warm, I’m embracing the colored tights look with these wonderful (and super warm) cream colored tights. Lastly, I’m wearing my favorite fall booties. I think these add style to the entire look- and I love the way they match the skirt!

I sort of think this looks a little like a J Crew outfit… although none of the pieces are from J Crew! LOL! At the risk of aging myself (again), does this sweater remind anyone of Andie McDowell from St. Elmo’s fire? For some reason it does to me!

I seem to be drawn to cardigans that tie in front- great for hiding my belly! I love the cable knit detail on this sweater.
