Oct 24, Chunky Sweater

Today’s outfit is a pretty purple sweater I bought last winter. I’ve noticed that sweaters this season have a lot of detail to them, and this sweater is no exception. See below for a closer look!

In my before outfit I’m wearing black jeans (which are perfectly fine), but to add a little spice I decided to wear my distressed ones instead. I also have on my giant cozy fleece in my before look. Now, to be perfectly honest- I LOVE this fleece. I wear it around the house all the time. It’s so warm… but for out in public, I can do better.

This sweater is a lot cuter. It has a great knit pattern, the color is really pretty, and I like that it is sort of cropped, which makes my legs look longer! See below for a better look.

Gotta run! I’m taking the ferry to Bainbridge Island today for a tennis match, so full disclosure, I’m not actually wearing this outfit today. I wore it last weekend! 🙂

Dec 17th, Black and Gray

DSCN6285DSCN6281Again, I have no time to write this morning- things are in full on crazy mode around here (is it like that at your house too?).

Here is my outfit for the day… Changing the sweater for a more fitted turtleneck and adding a scarf adds texture and interest.

Have a great day. Smile at someone new today.

Nov 29, Three for Thursday- Fur Vest

I want to be cute and comfy today (I think I say that every day!). So I decided to go with my cream stretchy cords. They are so soft and so warm, perfect for a cold winter day. I love pairing black and cream together- it’s an easy, classic combination.

My first look on the right I have on a large, baggy black top. It’s not doing much for me- too loose, too boring.

On the left I have replaced it with this slimmer, long sleeve V neck black t shirt- and then to add warmth (and some style) I added my faux fur vest. To finish it off, I added a long pendant necklace that ties all the colors together. For my shoes I chose my desert booties. I can wear socks with these- so my feet are nice and toasty and the subtle color doesn’t distract from the rest of the outfit.

Now, being that it is Three for Thursday, I’ve decided to show you some other ways I’ve worn this faux fur vest. It’s a fun piece to have in your closet- a great little way to dress up an otherwise plain or boring outfit. Plus, it makes me so warm!

Nov 10th, Footwear?

No time to write today, I’m rushing out the door for yet another basketball tournament!

I can’t decide which shoes to wear…  I like the all black look on the left- they make my legs look longer, but then again the brown boots on the right are a fun alternative!

What do you think?

I love this oversize sweater, it’s so cozy!

Sometimes it’s fun to mix brown and black together!

Oct 18th, Two Toned

I’ve always loved the look of outfits that are made up of pieces all in one color family. It’s a good trick to making me look taller (by keeping the colors similar you create one long vertical line).

Today’s outfit is a good example of that.

I’ve chosen off white cords and a cable knit turtleneck in the same beige/ tan tone.

The thing is though- you don’t want your outfit to be too plain- as seen on the right. You must have something of interest in your look- maybe  it’s a pattern (like the cable knit of the turtleneck on the left), or a cool necklace, or maybe a scarf. You need something that breaks up the solid look and gives the eye a focal point.

This scarf is a great example- the red draws your eye in and the background is the same color as my sweater. The scarf has enough bulk to stand on it’s own (I HATE skinny, wimpy scarves!).

This is a very warm and comfy outfit!

As a little extra- I decided to try a third look! Here I kept the plain t shirt (less bulky under the jacket) and then added my dark denim jacket.

For a totally different look, I added my denim jacket.

Sept 23rd, Rainy Day Soccer Mom

This post is for a reader, Shannon, who wrote yesterday asking what to wear to a soccer game when it’s raining.

Living in the Pacific Northwest, I’m pretty much a self proclaimed expert on rainy day wear!

The key component is having the right boots!

I coveted these rain boots (on the left!) for several months before I finally splurged and bought them. I will tell you- it was so worth it. Not only are they super comfy and stylish- but paired with knee socks- they are very warm!

I wearing black stretch pants (go for ones that are really thick & warm), and then I decided to go with a cream turtleneck and my trench coat in the same color. It’s a very mono-chromatic look- but I liked it- and I was very warm- and so much better than the look on the right. Luckily, it didn’t end up raining- but a cute umbrella would have been the final touch to keep me totally dry!

On the right (in case you are wondering) my jeans are too baggy for boots (see how they gather around the knee), the bright pink boots are a little dorky, and this coat isn’t doing much for me. Yes, I’m warm and dry- but I can also be warm and dry and look good too, right?!

I do wonder if I was a little overdressed though? I did get a bit of teasing by a dad (ahem, Jeff B you know who you are!), but I think he was just jealous that I was warm!

March 13th, Faking It

Ok, this is ridiculous. We have snow on the ground here this morning. Seriously?! It’s mid March!

I’ve given up on the real spring appearing- so I’ve decided to fake it.

I’m wearing my new pink cropped pants*- and then paired them with a grey turtleneck to keep warm.

I could have worn this turtleneck with boring old dress pants- as seen on the right, but isn’t the pink more fun and more springy?

I think so!

What’s the weather like where you live? Am I all alone in the cold?

*** Outfit update! The snow is really coming down hard now, so I have taken off my flats and replaced them with my black booties and socks… Sorry I don’t have time to post a picture, gotta get to work.

Darn you Mother Nature!

Yes, my feet might get a little cold- but oh well! I need a break from my boots!

By the way, my sisters arrive today, so be sure to check back tomorrow for my first ever ‘Sister’s Week’ post. We have some really fun ideas planned!

Lastly, don’t forget to check out my Facebook page and ‘like’ me. Thanks! 🙂

*I used color enhance on my IPhoto and the color of these pants appears a lot brighter than they really are. I swear!

These are from Nordstrom, Vince Camuto brand and I bought 2 pair- one in black and one pink. (FYI I checked online and they aren’t showing the pink anymore.. Check in store if you’re interested.)

Jan 27th, Baby It’s Cold Outside!

This crazy Pacific Northwest weather!  After what felt like spring yesterday there is frost on the ground today. It’s cold out there!

Today I’m wearing jeans again- and this time I’m showing looser fitting jeans- since not everyone wants to wear skinnys!

These are my Paige Premium denim and they fit so well. They are a dark blue wash, the waistband is high (no whale tail peeking out the back) and I like the boot cut.

On the right I’m showing just jeans and the turtleneck. Nothing wrong with this look- add a necklace and it could be really cute. However, because it is so darn cold- I decided to add a vest and a scarf.

I like the multiple layers and the contrasting patterns (quilted vest, cable knit sweater and the floral scarf). On my feet I’m wearing my wedge black shoes again! I knew I’d love these babies!

My linkup today is with Girlymama for Fashion Friday! Have fun!

This scarf is huge (it honestly looks like a blanket) which is why it's so voluminous. Don't wear a wimpy scarf! These jeans look black (bad lighting in my bathroom), but they are blue.

Sept 17th, Friday Night Lights

I actually really like this outfit- it may have just been a little dressy for football!

Scary lumberjack mom- stay away!

I’m actually posting my outfit from last night- this is what I wore to our local high school football game.

I have to admit though- I’m really struggling- I thought my outfit yesterday was great- then I went to work and saw so many people who were dressed so much better/ cuter/ more stylish than me. I felt stupid (who am I to have a style blog?) and I lost my confidence.

When I got home from work I tried to put together an outfit to wear to the high school game. The outfit on the right is seriously what I put together at first. Yikes! I look like a scary lumberjack. What was I thinking?

To make up for the lumberjack I went to the other extreme- sexy private eye. I paired my dark skinny jeans with a sleek black turtleneck, black boots and a cute houndstooth jacket. My primary goal was to not be cold, so I wanted something that was warm, stylish and would work at a football game. I actually really like this outfit, and I got several comments on how nice I looked- which I translated to ‘you are totally over-dressed for a football game’!

Sometimes do you ever feel like you can’t do anything right? Welcome to my world today!

This coat didn't come with a belt, but I added one to make it fit better. What do you think? Better with out without?
