April 21, Easter Sunday

Happy Easter everyone! It’s supposed to be a gorgeous day here in the Pacific Northwest, so I’ve decided to wear a white dress to celebrate. Question is- which dress?

Because we are going out for brunch, I think I’ll chose the option on the right. This cute J Crew dress has a looser fit, making more room for all the delicious food I’ll be eating. I love the sleeves , plus how the eyelet changes below the waist. The neckline is also super cute.

The dress on the left is from Zara, and I love it for all it’s simplicity. This fit and flare style is a super flattering for people who are curvy and have wider hips (like me).

Both dresses look great with neutral wedges- keeping the focus only on the dress. If it’s chilly, I’ll throw on a cute jacket!

Fit and Flare Dress- Zara, mine is old- but here is a similar one! And here’s another cute one!

Shoes- Clarks! Again, mine are old, but here is a similar pair! And these are cute too!

Feb 15, Basics

You may notice that I took these photos before I went on vacation- a girl’s gotta plan her outfits, right? One thing I like to do when traveling is pick a few basic colors to build outfits around- then I can mix and match as needed. I usually stick to black, white and denim. They all compliment each other well, and it’s easy to come up with several different looks from just a few key pieces.

In my before look, the black t shirt’s neckline is too high- notice how in the after look the lower V neckline of my camisole shows a little skin (but not too much!). This is a great camisole as it has a cute little fold detail (see photo), which causes it to hang really well. I got this at Uniqlo, and it also comes in a bright orange color. Adding a necklace to the tank also gives it a little interest.

To change up the jacket, I rolled the sleeves, giving it a casual vibe. Lastly, I changed out my Birkenstocks for these cute summary wedges. These are from Clarks, and they are old- but what a great shoe. The color is so versatile, it goes with everything!  I usually have a hard time wearing heels, but wedges are so comfy you can wear them all day. And look how much longer my legs look!  Now I just need the desert weather to warm up a bit! It rained all day yesterday. Guess I shouldn’t complain, it’s better than snow!

May 17th, One Dress, Two Ways

Today I’m showing this plain blue dress worn two totally different ways.

First off, is my ‘work’ look. All I did was add a bright pink belt. So simple, yet it works. The belt defines my waist and the bright burst of color works keeps it current.

Taking it even one step further, below I’ve added my ever favorite J Crew grey cardigan (it gets chilly in my office).

Again, I’ve opted to keep the neckline very simple. I didn’t want anything competing with the  belt!

The solid grey cardigan adds to the color block look.

Now, for those of you who don’t work- but still want to wear a dress (because they are so comfy), you can easily dress it down. Below I have added a safari style jacket over the dress, swapped out the heels for flats and added a necklace. These small changes completely alter the look- making it totally appropriate for running errands!

(Sorry about the blurry picture)

The big slouchy handbag helps dress down this shift dress.

March 16th, Right on Target

Today we decided to try a little fashion challenge- we had to put together an entire outfit using only items from Target.

It was fun to see what we could come up with!

Here are our 5 tips for dressing in less expensive clothes:

1. Have a nice purse and shoes (real leather). These are items to splurge on, people will see a high end purse or shoes and assume the rest of the outfit is high end.

2. Make sure your clothes are well pressed, no loose strings or buttons. Look polished.

3. Choose wisely. Go with a critical eye and have a goal in mind of what you are looking for. Kara gets the Nordstrom catalog as well as email updates from J Crew, Saks and Barneys to see what is current.  She then looks for similar styles at lower end shops.

4. Erin’s advice is to know your style. Just because something is fashionable, doesn’t mean it will work for you. Know your body and what works and what doesn’t. Don’t get caught up trends just because they are inexpensive. Wear what looks good on YOU!

5. Own your look- radiate confidence.

Below is Erin’s look:

She’s wearing a chambray dress with an empire waist. This makes her legs look even longer.  She’s paired her dress with red ballet flats and a cute necklace.

This is a great day dress- perfect for lunch with friends.

Love this necklace!

Kara chose a open knit sweater paired with a long cotton skirt. She added a tank and then accessorized with gorgeous necklace and bracelet and then finalized her look with her cute wedge heels.

Love this monochromatic look- it makes her look long and lean.

Such cute jewelry!

I chose cropped skinny jeans, a white tank and this cute polka dot cardigan. I added a muted fushia beaded necklace and sandals. Looking at the pictures I wish I would have worn ballet flats.

Wish I would have worn flats instead of sandals.

All items shown are from Target!

Don’t forget, it’s Friday, so we’ve hooked up with Girlymama for Fashion Friday edition. Check it out!
