March 6, Duster Cardigan

If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know that all the rage this winter has been the duster cardigan, which for those of you who are wondering is one that falls somewhere below your knee. Today my OOTD is my cream duster paired with grey jeans and a cute patterned top.

In my before look, my cardigan looks a little too much like a bathrobe, and the plain t shirt underneath doesn’t add much interest. My bulky UGGS also aren’t helping! I look like I just rolled out of bed!

For my after look, I replaced the bathrobe sweater with this cute lightweight duster from Target. You may have noticed, but I seem to be finding A LOT of really cute clothes at Target lately. I’m warning you, be careful, you go to buy toilet paper and come out with a new wardrobe!

This cute silk top is perfect under the cardigan. The pattern is subtle, yet interesting and the colors are perfect. I bought this in a local boutique a few years ago, which sadly is now out of business. Swapping out the Uggs for my cute grey booties completes the look. I wear these grey booties all the time- grey is my new ‘go to’ color, and having grey shoes is really coming in handy. I will need to look for some for spring! Any suggestions?!

Feb 12, Bundled Up

Ok Mother Nature, enough with the snow already! I’ve been trapped in my house for 4 days and need to get out! So, I’ll put on my snow boots, some jeans, a big black sweater and my black down coat- and I’m off (to shovel snow).

Problem is, in the before picture, the jeans are way to baggy, my coat is way to bulky and my overall look is messy!

So, I changed out the giant jeans for skinny ones, put on a longer and less puffy down coat (from Uniqlo) and added this cute Burberry knockoff scarf to break up all the black, and now I am good to go.

Let’s talk quickly about these jeans. They are made by Paige- and I got them at Nordstrom Rack, so didn’t pay full price. I LOVE these jeans. First of all, I love the dark wash. Secondly, they are high waisted, which means they sit above my hips and on my natural waist. To me, this is so much more comfortable than the low rise ones. And last, they are made with 54% rayon, 23% cotton, 22% polyester and 1% spandex, which makes them super stretchy and comfy, but not in the way where by the end of the day they are 2 sizes bigger (I hate that!). These honestly feel like sweatpants, they are that comfy. I remember back in college (in the 90’s) my friend Jo Marie used to sleep in her jeans and I couldn’t imagine doing that… but these jeans- I could sleep in!

Feb 11, Fuzzy Sweater

You guys, this is the FUZZIEST sweater I’ve ever owned. My sweet hubby bought this for me for my birthday and it came that way (maybe that’s the look?).  I love the color block design, but truth be told, it’s almost too fuzzy! But, it’s super warm and cozy, and on this snowy day it’s perfect.

In my before photo, I look huge! Clunky Uggs + baggy jeans+ huge sweater = unflattering look.

In my after picture, I have replaced the sloppy jeans with skinny ones, changed out my shoes for cute booties and did the half tuck to define my waist. Small changes = big difference.

One thing that I wanted to share was this awesome little tool that I use called a sweater stone. You can get these at Nordstrom, and they work wonders at removing the pilling that so often happens on sweaters (although maybe not so much in this sweater’s case!)

Jan 21st, Rub A Dub Dub

Silly title, I know, but I’m at a loss for something better and this sweater sort of reminds me of my bathrobe.

It’s big and comfy but there’s something about this belt that isn’t quite working.

So what to do? Donate the sweater to the Goodwill.

Heck no! I’ll just untie the belt- and re-tie it in the back- opening up the sweater to make it look less like a robe and more like a fashionable over-size sweater.

To keep from looking enormous, be sure to pair it with skinny jeans or pants. (These look black in the picture, but they are actually very dark blue). Add a gorgeous scarf from J Crew,  I am all set for a cozy weekend by the fire!

I should take my own advice and cut the tags off my scarf- it would look a lot cuter!

Jeans: Madewell, Sweater: Anthropologie, Scarf: J Crew, White T Shirt: Nordstrom, Boots: DSW

Enjoy!
