Oct 17, Athleisure Wear

My little sister once asked to do to a post on how to transition a tennis outfit into a running errands outfit, so that is what today’s post is all about. I have a tennis match today, but will be running a couple errands before the match, so I wanted an outfit that worked for that.

I started with my cropped Lululemon leggings and black Adidas tennis shoes, I then added this cute dolman sleeve top from Target. I think the color is gorgeous, it’s kind of a purple grey- perfect for fall. I like this top because it’s casual- but can easily be dressed up. To add even even more warmth, and a little style I then added this cute black vest. When I get to my match I can take off the vest and top to reveal my tank underneath, then I just need to add my tennis skirt. Easy!

Wish me luck on my match! 🙂

May 16, Tennis Anyone?

For those of you who know me well, you know that I have a passion for tennis! I talk about it all the time- and if I’m lucky, I get to play 3-4 times a week. I’ve had several friends ask me to share an OOTD of me in my tennis outfit, so here you go!

The outfit on the left is actually a golf skirt, and for golf, it is sort of cute- but for tennis it is too long. Yes, the skirt on the right is super short- and yes, I have cottage cheese on the back of my legs, but honestly, it doesn’t matter! In tennis you will see women of all shapes and sizes and no one cares! And, if you are really worried, you can always wear leggings under your skirt. Or, some brands (like Lululemon) carry a long version, it’s still made for tennis, but has an extra inch or two for more coverage.

As for the top, a cute long sleeve light weight pullover is better than a bulky, unflattering fleece. I will wear this during the warm up, then take it off. Afterwards, I have a meeting and some errands to run, so I will throw it back on to give me some coverage.

This cute skirt is from Lululemon (it’s old), but I love the colors. It goes well with blue, black, white and grey- so it’s super versatile. However, if your budget really only allows to buy one tennis skirt- I would say go with black. You can pair any colored top with it- and wear it all year round.

Now for my personal thoughts on having a passion. I think it is so important for everyone to have a little hobby that is just for you. As moms we spend so much time giving to everyone else, it’s important to have something that is just yours! It can be anything you are interested in. I have a friend who just took up welding! Other friends garden, cook, take French lessons… you name it. It’s important to find something in your life that brings you joy and you look forward to. What is your passion? Feel free to share in the comments below!

April 30, Leggings

I’m heading out of town tomorrow and will be spending today getting ready for my trip, so I am super casual in my leggings and cotton tank top.

In my before photo I have on my full length Athleta leggings. I love these for warmth, and in the winter they are cute paired with boots, but for spring time I like the cropped version better. These are from Lululemon. When it comes to leggings, I think it is worth the money to splurge on either Lulu or Athleta ones. The fabric is thick enough to cover any lumps or bumps, and it washes and wears well for years.

I also replaced the tight (and ugly) workout top on the left with this cute KC, MO tank. It fits better (not as snug in the tummy). You may have noticed that I don’t often wear tops with any writing on them, but I am so proud to be from Kansas City that I wear this tank with pride (plus it’s cute!)! Next I threw on my long grey open cardigan, besides keeping me warm, it does a nice job of covering my butt and hips- creating a slimmer look. To complete the outfit I am wearing my black tennis shoes.

Leggings- Lululemon

Tank- Bunker

Cardigan- Gap, old but this is similar!

November 1st, Month in Review

Well, it’s the start of a new month- which means I show all my outfits from last month and you all can comment and let me know which is your favorite!

Hope you had a great Halloween!

Oct 5th, A Day Off

I apologize for the delayed post today! My kids have the day off from school, so I have taken the day off as well.

It’s been lovely! I slept in until 8:30, took my dog for a long walk, and just went and played tennis with my kids.

Even though it’s really not that stylish or fashionable, I decided to show my work-out outfit- since realistically many, MANY, moms spend their days dressed in this type of clothing (don’t get me wrong, on my days off I am in my yoga pants too!)

The thing with exercise clothes is that it is so easy to look really outdated and frumpy- and it’s so easy to look cute. It’s your choice!

Take the outfit on the right- these baggy black pants- with the white stripes down the sides- do nothing for me. They look like something my mom might have worn in the 70’s. The black fleece is also shapeless. While sometimes I like dressing on all one color- in this case, it’s boring. To make matters even worse, my bright white tennis shoes are also a little out of style.

On the left is my new look- I’ve switched out the dated track pants for fitted Lululemon workout pants. I swear by these- yes, they are expensive, but it is worth it. They are so thick that they hide my cottage cheese- and they are so comfortable!  For my top, I have also selected Lululemon- this gray and white striped top is cute- and the bright purple jacket adds some style. My colored tennis shoes (with the bright orange laces) finish the look off.

I bought this jacket at Nordstroms (Zella), off the sale rack! I love the pattern (it’s very subtle) and the bright color really pops!

I can remove the jacket and still look cute!

May 12th, Tennis Anyone?

I’ll be the first to admit that I am addicted to tennis!

I don’t know how it happened, or why- but it did! I just started playing 2 years ago by taking lessons at my local tennis club, and after a year I joined a team and try to play about 4 times a week! Who would have thought that at 40 I would learn a new sport?!

So, today’s outfit is all about tennis. To be totally honest, one of the reasons I even started playing was because of the cute outfits! Yes, I”m that lame!

After a match, I may not have time to get home to change clothes- so I often run errands or pick up the kids from the bus in my tennis clothes, and I definitely want to look cute.

And now that I’m having foot problems, all the more reason to run around wearing my tennis shoes!

The thing is though-  even tennis outfits can work- or not! One of the worst offenses in tennis (for the not so serious player) is to have a skirt that is too long! As you can see from the picture on the right,  my blue skirt  looks a little dull and frumpy because of it’s length.

I know, I know, the longer the skirt- the more leg is covered- and take it from me- I would like to cover as much as possible!  But the good news is, no one seems to care! I have cottage cheese all over my legs- and I DONT CARE!

Simply said- the shorter skirt is cuter- and yes, you can see more cottage cheese- but I use that as my strategy to throw off my opponent! Just kidding…

This pink skirt is so feminine and flirty! To balance it out, I chose a white work out top and jacket.

I actually wore this outfit yesterday! So, if you see me today and I’m wearing something different, you’ll know why!

March 22nd, Super Casual

I’ve got a super busy morning!

I’m playing tennis at 8:00, then volunteering at school, then going to the dentist, running by the grocery store, then walking my dog. I’ll even try to squeeze in a little house work when I get home (as if!).

My outfit needs to be versatile, casual and easy!

I could run around town looking like the old me (on the right), but this is just awful! My bright white tennis shoes are glaring. The loose, baggy track pants are unflattering and the plain black fleece is dull.

On the left is my re-worked look. This jacket is actually part of my tennis team uniform, so after my match today, I’ll switch out my tennis skirt for these cute cropped jeans. The fitted style of this jacket is much more flattering than the fleece. And the red tank peeking out from underneath adds some color and interest. As for my shoes- I’ve replaced my bright white shoes for my comfy Pumas.

I’m now ready to run into someone I know and not be totally embarrassed. This may not be my cutest outfit- but it’s perfect for my crazy day.

Love these Pumas- they are so comfy and so much cuter than the bright white shoes.

Jeans: Old Navy, Jacket: Lucy, Tank: Gap, Shoes: Nordstrom

March 10, Weekend/ Workout Clothes

I’ve been asked by several readers to show workout clothes, so today I decided that’s what I would do.

Some days after my workout I might not have time to change before running errands, so I at least want to look sort of cute, right?

On the right is my example of a not so cute look. The pants with the white stripes down the side are too loose, they’re dated and not flattering at all.  Also worth noting is how much shorter my legs look in these pants compared to the picture on the left.

The plain black fleece is also boring and the bright white tennis shoes are U-G-L-Y!

On the left is my new look.

I’m wearing Lululemon pants. If you don’t own any of these- seriously consider buying some. They are expensive- but so worth it.  I love the way they fit.

There is something very special about the fabric, it seems to suck me in where I need to be sucked- and thick enough to hide the cottage cheese underneath (and I do have cottage cheese).

I’ve then layered a pink fitted pullover over my white work out tank- and for extra warmth added a black quilted vest on top. To add even more interest, I have on my pink tennis shoes (much cuter than the plain white ones on the right- these look like nurse shoes!).

This would also be a cute side-line outfit for all you soccer (or lacrosse) moms!

Enjoy your Saturday! Go Wolves!

Jan 2nd, Keeping it Real

I apologize for not posting yesterday! First time in 143 days that I’ve missed a day, and I am so sorry!

We spent New Year’s Eve at a hotel in Seattle and then spent all day yesterday walking around, shopping, eating and exploring our wonderful city. By the time I got home it was too late.

Today’s outfit is not that exciting, but you know how I feel about ‘keeping it real’ here, so this is really what I’m wearing.

I’m going to take my puppy for a walk, then spend the rest of the day cleaning out my closet (now that I know I don’t need so many clothing, I’ve decided it’s time for a BIG clean out). I’m also going to do laundry, clean my kitchen, change the sheets, plan my meals for the week…

You know the drill- all those essential things that must get done that no one else in the family notices!

I’m showing 2 options of my ‘dog walking’ outfit. The one on the right is just a little plain- the grey fleece is unflattering and dull. The one on the left is more fun. The bright pink top is more eye catching, and it matches my new running shoes (which I got at Plateau Runner– a new local store, check it out)! The black  panels on the sides of this fleece are flattering, giving the appearance of a more defined waist.

Happy New Year!

Enjoy your day!

Nov 1st, True Confessions

This is a hard post because my goal in this style project is to wear outfits that are cute and inspired and I know no one will want to copy this outfit, but the truth is- I’m so exhausted by Halloween and all it’s festivities that I honestly don’t feel like get dressed today.

I considered putting on something cute, taking my picture and then changing into this. But, I’m committed to being real and honest in this blog.  So, there you have it- this is me- in my casual, post halloween hangover outfit.

The whole look is based on the fact that my feet hurt and I want to wear my tennis shoes and I refuse to wear them with anything but work out clothes.

My pants are from Lulu, which I LOVE because of the way they fit, and my jacket is Adidas. I like the way it has a little built in gather to emphasize my waist. Because I like showing comparisons, the look on the right is basically the same outfit- workout pants and jacket (or in this case fleece), but these loose and baggy pants are awful and the black fleece also does nothing for my figure.

So, if you’re feeling exhausted from too much Halloween and you just want to be ultra comfy and casual today- think about how even in casual work out clothes you can be sort of cute… right?

Wear a thong or go without undies when wearing tight pants like these. No one wants to see granny panty outline!
