After a few days of color- today I’m back to wearing neutrals.
On the right I’m wearing a long sleeve cream shirt with ruffles down the font.
There isn’t anything wrong with this shirt, but my problem area is my tummy- and the solid expanse of fabric right over my stomach does nothing to hide that area.
On the other hand, this shirt on the left has ruching at the sides- which gives the shirt gathers in the mid section, which works well to hide a bigger tummy.
I also love the neckline and the sleeves of this shirt- it seems to work well for my figure.
I actually love this top so much that I bought it in 3 colors- grey, black and cream.
On the left I’ve chosen cropped black pants, which makes my outfit much more springy.
When wearing such a neutral outfit, it’s important to add some sort of focal point and color. As usual- I’ve done this by adding a necklace and bracelet.
In case you’re wondering, yes, I did wear these the other day- they are 2 of my favorites! Plus, the gorgeous green color is very popular right now.

It’s Monday Mingle, so be sure to click here for some great inspiration!

Cute! I love neutrals, color is much harder for me to pull together. What brand is that shirt? It woul dmake a great addition to my wardrobe – thanks!
loving that top – what brand?
Love that top, too!! I want it! First time commenter…love your casual “mom” style. I am a stay-at-home-mom of two small girls in the Midwest, and I am always looking for outfits beyond yoga pants. 🙂
Thanks Kelly! Where in the midwest are you? I grew up in Kansas City! Love it there!
Thanks for taking the time to comment- it always makes my day to hear from readers!
I grew up in Chicago and now live in Indianapolis. I am a Midwesterner to the core, although I love traveling to new places. I don’t even know how I found your blog, but I like checking out what fun outfit you’ve put together and how I can do the same! Now that my youngest is almost two, I feel like I can wear “real clothes” again – I’m done with the post-partum bod and done with baby drool & spit up! I’m free! Ha!
I love the attitude you have in your after shots. You have a confident stance with your shoulders back, kickin’ out the hip and giving it a little spunk!
It’s so true- the right outfit does burst my confidence, while a ‘bad’ outfit makes me feel frumpy!
Loving my visit here. The rouched top makes your tummy complete flat – I think the tapered trousers also give you a lovely silhouette compared to the wider legged trousers. Overall a more trendy look.
I voted for you – good luck 🙂
Have a fabulous week.

I love that top! Do you have a link for it or was it in store? If you had pants like that in khaki you could wear them in place of the cropped khakis in the outfit the other day that I said reminded me of when I was a teacher.
Thanks so much! I bought this top over a year ago- so I’m not sure if you can still find it. The brand is Sweet Pea, and you may want to check out Nordstrom Rack or maybe even Marshalls.
As for the pants, good idea- I’m not sure if they make them in a khaki, but you’re right- they would be a great alternative to my old ones. Thanks! 🙂
Great look! I am a stay at home mum in Melbourne, Australia. Your style is very similar to mine, just wish we had the same stores here! Your top is a really winner.
How fun to know that I have a viewer as far away as Australia! Thank you so much for writing!
I love this look on you. I feel like skinny and cropped is the only way to go these days. Traditional straight leg pants feel too corporate. Hope you had a great Easter!
I totally agree, straight leg does seem too corporate, dated and even a little wintery.
Thanks for writing! I love your blog!
I love the top! Very slenderizing!
Love it! (as always). What are you wearing under your top? I struggle with what to wear under thinner white tops. Just a bra (no matter what color) looks too trashy, and a thicker cami looks to bulky. Any revolutionary solutions you have found?
I have a few stretchy tanks that are long that I got at Nordstrom. I think they were around $20- and I love them because the stretchy fabric helps hold my tummy in. I suggest looking around- and finding one that is about 90% nylon and 10% spandex. The 2 brands I have are Sugarlips and Haze.
Good luck!
Love that top, so pretty!
