Oct 29, Mom Jeans

I’ve been wanting a pair of straight leg mom jeans for a while now- and I actually bought a pair at Target about a month ago, but never really felt comfortable wearing them. Something was just off. Then I decided to splurge and get the Madewell ones that I kept seeing on Instagram. So today I am showing you the difference between the two.

As you can see, the Madewell ones are a tad longer on me- which actually makes big difference. The legs are also straighter- there is some weird bunching going on in the Target ones. The Madewell ones also are VERY high waisted- I mean above my belly button high, which may take some getting used to! One thing to keep in mind is that the sizing is way off! I am normally a 28 in most brands, in these I am in a 26, which makes me think what size are the skinny girls wearing?!

I’ve paired my mom jeans with a cute J Crew button down blouse that I tied at the waist and then for warmth added a green jacket. The pointy booties are more current than the worn out loafers.

Oct 25, Teddy Coat

I apologize in advance for oversharing, but I’m a bit bloated today- and didn’t want to squeeze into jeans, so instead I opted for this long black cotton dress. It’s the ultimate in comfort- no tight waistband, no clinging in the hips, no pinching seams… just a super easy black dress.

All alone though, it’s a little basic, so I wanted to add something to it. I decided that since the dress is so comfy, I needed to stick with that and add even more comfort- hence, the teddy coat. This is actually my daughter’s coat from American Eagle, but she let me borrow it for today. And oh my gosh, I may never give it back! It’s like wearing your favorite blanket, but better! It’s truly the coziest thing ever and may be my new favorite item!

Keeping with the comfort theme, I decided to wear my black tennis shoes. To be honest, I struggle with what shoes to wear with this dress because of the length. In the summer I wore flip flops or flat sandals, but now that it’s cold and I need a closed toe shoe, I find it to be a challenge . The black Adidas tennis shoes give the outfit a casual, street style that I like. Plus, they are super comfy- so win- win! Here’s to the weekend! 🙂

Oct 24, Chunky Sweater

Today’s outfit is a pretty purple sweater I bought last winter. I’ve noticed that sweaters this season have a lot of detail to them, and this sweater is no exception. See below for a closer look!

In my before outfit I’m wearing black jeans (which are perfectly fine), but to add a little spice I decided to wear my distressed ones instead. I also have on my giant cozy fleece in my before look. Now, to be perfectly honest- I LOVE this fleece. I wear it around the house all the time. It’s so warm… but for out in public, I can do better.

This sweater is a lot cuter. It has a great knit pattern, the color is really pretty, and I like that it is sort of cropped, which makes my legs look longer! See below for a better look.

Gotta run! I’m taking the ferry to Bainbridge Island today for a tennis match, so full disclosure, I’m not actually wearing this outfit today. I wore it last weekend! 🙂

Oct 23, Jogger Inspiration

No time for a before and after post this morning, I am running late and need to get out the door- but I wanted to quickly show my outfit that was inspired by @CBStyled over on Instagram. She did a cute post yesterday showing how to wear joggers 13 different ways- and they were all adorable! As you know, I love my joggers- they are seriously the most comfortable pant on earth, so I was excited to see her post and find some cute ideas. Below is my quick take on building an outfit around my grey joggers from Target. I added a cropped knit sweater (Vince) and then threw on a scarf to tie the colors together. For my feet I am wearing wedge heel booties from J Crew that I have had for years. Gotta run, sorry for the quickie!

Oct 22, Camo Leggings

Sticking with my theme from last week, I’m doing another camo Tuesday. This time I’m wearing my camo leggings- paired with a black top.

The problem with the ‘before’ look is that I have paired the leggings with a long sleeve collared shirt. Not only is the shirt too short to wear with leggings, but this combo is strange. And honestly, in my opinion, this type of shirt is not stylish at all, the only reason I still own it is for that rare day that I may go play golf and need a collared shirt. Otherwise, I’d get rid of it! In fact… maybe I will!

A much cuter option is this black sweater from Evereve (old). I like the balance of a bit roomier top with the slim leggings. Plus, this sweater has a cute lace and silk trim built in, so it looks like I’ve layered it over a camisole. It adds enough length to the sweater to cover my butt, so it’s perfect for wearing with leggings. And since I’m going to work, and not the gym, I think the booties are a better/ dressier choice than the black tennis shoes.

Oct 21, Monday Flannel

Another Monday, another flannel! This time it’s my grey flannel from Uniqlo. Boy do I love this shirt! It’s soft, cozy & warm. And, since it’s from Uniqlo, it’s super affordable. Mine is old, but they have some cute ones this season, check them out here. In my opinion, a flannel shirt is the perfect choice for a crisp fall day.

At first I thought I would try the flannel with grey jeans and grey Converse, but then I decided that’s a little too much grey, so I switched to dark wash jeans. These jeans are from Lucky, and I cropped them myself. They have the perfect amount of stretch to make them super comfy. For my feet, the slip on pointy toe booties from Target are a little more stylish than the sneakers. Tucking the shirt, rolling the sleeves and adding this big statement belt complete the look.

Have a great Monday! I’m off to sub in middle school again. Yikes! What was I thinking?! If you are a middle school teacher- I applaud you! All teachers are amazing, but middle school is a whole other story!

Oct 19, Juicing

I never thought I’d write this post- because my intent here was really just to have some fun in my closet and try out different outfits- and now here I am sharing about juicing… but honestly I love juicing so much that I want to share with you, in case you want to give it a try!

My friend Livi turned me on to juicing about 2 1/2 years ago- and I have been hooked ever since. I already had a pretty healthy diet, but juicing was a nice supplement to what I was already eating, and it was a GREAT way to get my daughter to eat veggies!

This is typically what I juice every morning. Can you imagine eating that many veggies in one sitting?

Every morning I make juice for my family. To keep it easy, I make the same thing every day. It takes about 15 minutes- but it so worth it!

I love juicing because it makes me feel healthy. I am more energetic, I think more clearly, my skin looks better and more than anything else, I love that I am filling my body with cancer fighting nutrients.

According to an article from the Mayo Clinic written by Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D., “Some believe that juicing is better than eating whole fruits and vegetables because your body can absorb the nutrients better and it gives your digestive system a rest from digesting fiber. They say juicing can reduce your risk of cancer, boost your immune system, remove toxins from your body, aid digestion and help you lose weight.

The article goes on to say that it’s important for your body to get fiber (which you don’t get when juicing), so they encourage blending as well. Here’s my problem with blending (or making smoothies) the taste! All of those veggies blended together taste awful- so you have to add a ton of fruit to give it some sweetness. With juicing, you don’t need to add as much fruit. I only add one apple and a cup of pineapple. That’s it! Everything else is a vegetable, and it tastes amazing! Honestly, I crave it! Plus, I get fiber in my diet with my other meals, so it’s not a concern to me.

To learn more about juicing , I watched the Netflix show “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” which was incredible. However, I wouldn’t recommend going on a complete juice fast for as long as he does! The longest I’ve fasted is 5 days.

If you have any questions about juicing, I am happy to be a resource. I am not an expert, but I am really passionate about it- and would love to chat, exchange recipes, or hear your story!

Oct 18, 6 Ways to Wear a Graphic T Shirt

For my final day in my ‘theme week’ I have chosen to show a graphic t shirt worn 6 different ways! This was actually a lot of fun for me- because up until a year ago I would have NEVER worn a graphic t shirt anywhere but to bed! But I’ve been inspired by all the fashion posts on Instagram. I see women of all ages rocking a graphic t and looking super stylish! So here goes my take on how to wear a graphic t shirt!

  1. Distressed jeans/ Free People Blazer/ Black Booties
  2. Black distressed jeans/ Faux fur vest/ Paul Green flats
  3. White distressed jeans/ grey and white shrug sweater, grey booties
  4. Black pencil skirt/ denim jacket, leopard flats
  5. Dark skinny jeans, off white blazer, pointy toe heels
  6. Wide leg jeans, casual grey cardigan, loafers

Now I need to decide which I like best! I’d love to hear your thoughts!

By the way, this cute T shirt is from Target!!

Oct 17, Athleisure Wear

My little sister once asked to do to a post on how to transition a tennis outfit into a running errands outfit, so that is what today’s post is all about. I have a tennis match today, but will be running a couple errands before the match, so I wanted an outfit that worked for that.

I started with my cropped Lululemon leggings and black Adidas tennis shoes, I then added this cute dolman sleeve top from Target. I think the color is gorgeous, it’s kind of a purple grey- perfect for fall. I like this top because it’s casual- but can easily be dressed up. To add even even more warmth, and a little style I then added this cute black vest. When I get to my match I can take off the vest and top to reveal my tank underneath, then I just need to add my tennis skirt. Easy!

Wish me luck on my match! 🙂

Oct 16, Denim Dress

I really love wearing dresses, especially in the summer. They are such an easy outfit! But in the fall/ winter I struggle a bit because I worry about getting cold. So today I am showing a denim dress that I have styled to not only look cute, but to also keep me warm!

My first step was my shoes. These tall boots can be worn with knee socks, which definitely add major warmth. If it’s really chilly, some neutral tights will also work. Next I added this long cardigan. I’ve shown this cardigan a lot as a ‘before’ look- because it can tend to look like a bathrobe, but paired with this dress, I think it looks cozy. My infinity scarf completes the outfit- it adds color, warmth and style. All in all, a cute fall look perfect for school.

ps: If you want to see some of the Netflix/ Amazon Video recommendations from yesterday, head over to Instagram @Everydaymomstyle_ to check out what people were saying! I loved hearing from readers- and am excited to check out Killing Eve, You, Derry Girls to name a few! Thank you!! 🙂
